Chapter 57: They all vanished

The coffee had already grown cold, Ravi thought as he entered the alley. Well, it was not bad to have an iced coffee to start the day. When it came to manipulating atoms, it was always easier to heat, and combust than to cool. One had to be careful, or the item would freeze over, reaching zero.

He sipped the iced coffee and stopped. There were no footsteps, he concentrated more, he could not sense anybody. Ravi dissipated at that instant, reconstructing in the alley not far from the veterinary clinic.

Could the god have reached a bottleneck and sent his incarnation so that he would use him to cultivate and breakthrough? What happens to the incarnation, does he rejoin the god’s soul or is he discarded when everything is over?

Why was he thinking about this? He was not an overtly curious person, you could not be a curious person as a Sentinel so why was he curious now? He blinked and headed down to the Police Station.

He was going to be late today. 7:54 a.m. He could not make it no matter how much he tried right now, but Ravi still stubbornly tried, walking as fast as someone in a walking marathon in the Olympics.

When he reached the door and opened it, it was three minutes past 8 a.m.

He was late. Because of both the incarnation, Sage, and himself, only ten percent of the blame belonged to him.

Any second now...nothing.

There was nobody in the office. Ah! Did Lisa prank him? He furrowed his brows, it could not be.

He headed to his chair and sat down. He blinked and blinked again. There was a heap of files on top of his table, and there was also a small note.

"Since you were sick, I took it by myself to collect your files for you. I hope you feel better soon. Love, Lisa."

The love that he had for her when she called him this morning, instantly vanished into thin air.

"You shaved it all off, Officer West? West, you are looking good today."

Ravi hummed, not paying much attention to what the man said. A police officer said as he entered the office. Red hair, he reminded him of Sage and Ravi gritted his teeth before freezing. The youth should be seventeen or eighteen, he felt foolish, carrying a beef with a child.

"What are you doing?" The officer moved a bit closer, standing over at Draco’s desk.

"I am working."

"I know." the man laughed, " I meant every officer is at Number 7 Chatin Street. Every officer in your team, at least. There was a fire. The chief assigned the case to your team and team 4. I do not want to be you right now."

Likewise. Right now, he did not want to be him either. He headed to the water dispenser to pour some water into his cup. He rinsed the cup and placed it on the table.

"Officer West, are you delaying?" The man leaned on the wall. This should be an officer of team 2, Ravi had seen him before. He should just continue on the way, why was he here fixating on him? He was not in a good mood this morning.

’En." He said slowly before taking the key to the company sedan and leaving. The man watched him leave. The first time he had seen Ravi West, he had been so enraptured and had chased him around, only to find out that after one year, the man still did not know his name.

He had finally given up, of course, it helped that The officer now looked like a poster boy for a poverty campaign. His lips twitched, it has been four years and it turns out that Ravi West still does not know his name.

Ravi did not know the thoughts that were going on in the officer’s head, he was feeling irritable today so he did not bother to care. To think that he had been so happy this morning, the thought of his morning happiness, even made him more angry and he stepped on the gas. Ten minutes later, he was at Number 7 Chatin Street. People were gathered around and some were discussing the parking space.

He parked and came down. In front of him, a few meters from the yellow tape was a burnt-down house. The house was a charred skeleton against the morning sky. The fire had devoured everything, leaving behind blackened furniture and twisted metal.

This place had a grill and bar. Ravi had come here once or twice last year. He did not particularly like the place. It was loud and always had those customers who got drunk and complained about everything.

But the grilled chicken and fish were good, smokey, and juicy. Now the smoke that still wisped from the house carried with it, an acrid scent of destruction.

He sighed. Human life and human properties are always so fragile. So easily destroyed.

"Ravi. You are late." Lisa jumped into his embrace. He carefully pushed her away, the more she did her influencing side hustle, the more she seemed to forget all his personal idiosyncrates, like he did not like being hugged.

She raised her head to look at him and her eyes sparkled, "You look so good. You looked even finer than the first time I met you. So beautiful, I am so glad you shaved the beards and cut the bangs."

Beautiful. He hated that compliment. But Arlen had said that his beauty is the mesmerizing type, he did not hate it. It...the red spread through Rivas’s ears down his neck.

"Ah! You are blushing. Please, please, let me video you."

"No. What happened here?" He quickly diverted her thoughts and she frowned, her face became paler and she looked like she wanted to throw up.

"Three people died. I saw one of the corpses. Oh heaven! Ravi, it was terrible."

Ravi nodded. It was. The fire was a very painful way to die. He patted her on the back, "It is alright, you can throw ..." Then he saw him.

Arlen was wearing his uniform which was a few shades lighter than the regular police uniform. He wore blue ear headphones and was talking to a woman in a firefighter uniform. He turned as if he had noticed his gaze and smiled. freewebnoveℓ.com

"Officer West!"

The moment Ravi saw him, he felt as if there was a sudden wind in the air or someone had breathed into his heart, and all the irritability had suddenly disappeared.
