I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 655: Spending the Rest of Life in Jail
"PFFT!" Kris Cooper chuckled. "Are you begging me or threatening me?"
Liliana Davis didn’t laugh. "I’ve already said, this is a deal."
Kris Cooper’s gaze was cold. "In a deal, both parties need to hold equal chips. Unfortunately, I don’t think you do."
"No!" Liliana Davis’s tone was grave. "I do!"
"Let’s hear it then."
"You must be very curious why I did those things," Liliana Davis said, staring straight at Kris Cooper. "Right?"
Kris Cooper feigned confusion. "What things is Minister Zhou referring to?"
Liliana Davis’s lips curved into a faint smile. "Kris Cooper, you are indeed smart, but I’m not foolish either. So... I won’t be tricked! We both know very well what ’those things’ are; there’s no need to spell them out. What I want to talk about now is the reason."
"Alright. Then what is the reason?"
"The reason is, he deserved it!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
As she spoke the last few words, her voice was tinged with the sound of gritted teeth.
Of course, Kris Cooper understood that the "he" she referred to was Walter Wave.
He had analyzed this matter before. There were likely only two reasons Liliana Davis had done this: either the Barker Group was targeting Walter Wave, and she was helping them, or there was some unmentionable secret between her and Walter Wave. Now, it seemed it was indeed the latter.
"He’s the one who tore our family apart, ruined my husband’s reputation, and led to him committing suicide in prison! This was what he deserved." Liliana Davis’s voice grew agitated. "He deserved it! He deserved to die! If it weren’t for him, Liang and I wouldn’t have had to divorce, and Nathan Leafcastle wouldn’t have lost his father so young!"
Kris Cooper frowned but didn’t respond hastily.
Across from him, Liliana Davis also fell silent. She took a few deep breaths before finally calming her emotions.
"A life for a life. The old scores are settled. This was what he deserved, and I have a clear conscience!"
"A clear conscience?!" Kris Cooper scoffed. "Do you realize how much your actions hurt Vera? From a young lady of privilege to a destitute nobody, do you know how much she suffered?"
"She suffered? What about me? What about Nathan Leafcastle!" Liliana Davis thumped her chest. "In Australia, I washed dishes for more than twenty hours a day until I was on the verge of collapse! Did anyone care? Nathan Leafcastle went to school during the day and worked as a waiter at night to help support us! Did anyone care?!"
"That’s your business! I don’t care!" Kris Cooper took a step forward, his gaze fixed intently on her eyes. "I only want to know one thing: were you behind what happened to Vera?"
Liliana Davis paused, taken aback.
"What incident?!"
"What incident?!" Kris Cooper snapped. "Six years ago, she was nearly raped, and then almost run over by a woman in a car! Do you dare say... it wasn’t you?!"
"I didn’t do it."
"You didn’t?!" Anger flared on Kris Cooper’s face. "You can try to deny responsibility, of course. But let me tell you, Liliana Davis, I won’t allow anyone to harm her. And you will pay for what you’ve done!"
He raised his finger, gesturing vaguely towards her face as he spoke coldly, "I’ll see you utterly ruined and disgraced, spending the rest of your life in prison!"
...
...
「Downstairs.」
Vera Wave, clutching her laptop bag, slipped through a dilapidated gate onto the construction site. She looked around, puzzled. "Strange. Why am I here?"
