Chapter 654: Chapter 654: That’s Aston Martin

"And you accused me of being forgetful, but look at you!"

As the head in charge of technology for the company, Kris Cooper always had his laptop with him. This was no ordinary laptop; not only did it contain all his work files, but it was also his favorite device for writing programs.

Grabbing the laptop bag, Vera Wave dashed out the door. The phone on the table immediately started ringing wildly.

"Master, don’t abandon me!" it pleaded in a cutesy voice.

Vera ignored its pleas. If she didn’t chase after him now, he would be long gone.

She sprinted all the way to the front door, only to see Kris Cooper’s car already making a turn at the corner.

"Wait!" She frantically waved her hand, but Kris Cooper didn’t see her. His car had already rounded the bend.

Vera rushed out with the laptop bag, only to see his car make a U-turn on the road and head left. As the car disappeared into the distance, Vera looked at the laptop bag in her hand, then turned towards an oncoming taxi and immediately flagged it down.

"Follow that car!" she told the driver, pointing at the azure sports car ahead. "That blue one."

The taxi driver started the chase, but they couldn’t catch up with Kris Cooper.

"Seriously, driver, speed up!"

The taxi driver responded with a wry smile, "Miss, that’s an Aston Martin. Do you think my old Hyundai can keep up?"

Vera laughed. "Just follow him slowly from behind. We’ll catch up when he stops."

He would have to stop at some point. Worst case scenario, she would deliver the laptop to his office, saving him the trouble of sending someone back to pick it up and interrupting work.

The sports car took a turn ahead and veered onto a side road. Sitting in the taxi, Vera frowned. "Strange, where is he going?!" This was certainly not the way to Ashton or Glimmer!

In the sports car, Kris Cooper checked his watch and stepped on the accelerator, speeding up. With a furrowed brow, he kept pondering why Liliana Davis had invited him to this meeting. What was she up to?

While he ruminated, he didn’t notice the taxi following far behind. The sports car sped up, quickly leaving the taxi behind.

After taking a turn, Kris Cooper parked on the side of the road, got out of the car, and glanced at the adjacent building whose main structure was complete. He then walked towards the construction site.

The site was overgrown with weeds. Building materials were scattered in the courtyard, and the ground was covered in rubbish.

Kris Cooper was familiar with this land; it was a plot Ashton had acquired last year. Just recently, the development plan for this land had been discussed at a board meeting. This was his first time visiting the site, though.

He surveyed his surroundings. His gaze swept past a wildcat he had startled, then landed on the main building not far away. Treading over the weeds, he strode into the building.

The building was currently just a structural frame. The steps leading up were covered in dust, and a closer look revealed faint footprints, marks left by high-heeled shoes.

Kris Cooper climbed the stairs to the rooftop. There, he found a woman standing near the edge of the unrailed floor, her back to him, gazing into the distance.

Hearing his footsteps, Liliana Davis turned to face him. Kris Cooper stopped a short distance from her. "Director Davis, you asked me to come here. What would you like to discuss?"

"I want you to stop investigating me immediately." Liliana Davis’s gaze was profound as she stared at his face. "From today onwards, you go your way, and I’ll go mine."
