I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 237: I believe you had one too many coffee yesterday
Jane was honestly surprised that Paige had no problem with her husband staying in the same suite with another woman.
Well, she heard the ruckus so she must’ve been convinced that there was no hidden quota in their relationship.
’Their level of trust must be at its max.’
That was what she thought but honestly, Paige was uneasy.
It wasn’t the fact that Maxwell was staying with another woman, but it was the fact that he was growing attached to her, even if it wasn’t romantically... yet.
Maxwell wasn’t one to get close to others. He could only get close to them if his heart, as well as his senile mind was drawn to them and such a case was very rare. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
So for him to get drawn to another lady, she was scared.
What if all this time, she wasn’t anything special but just a fleeting obsession in his heart? What if he found a new obsession and his feelings for her faded?
She had been the only lady in his life up till this moment so she was convinced that his feelings were solely for her.
But now there was another.
Soulmate? Sister? Wasn’t that just an excuse to call his newly found feelings till he grew to understand them fully?
She tapped her fingers on her desk. She must be overthinking it.
She concluded and prayed that she was indeed overthinking it.
Jane scowled at Maxwell who was simply staring at his phone. She stopped scowling, feeling something had suddenly gone wrong with his mood.
"What, are you upset that you got scolded?" She asked and he raised his head, looking serious.
He wasn’t really sulking about what Paige said. Rather, he was staring at the feedback from his men but he wasn’t going to tell her that.
"You need to go to sleep. It’s already late." He said to her and she took a step back, before turning around.
"Well, I already knew that. But I don’t think I can sleep since the caffeine in my system is still high." She said, heading towards her room.
"Well, you cried so much and drank so much. Believe me, staying up late will only add to the way you’ll feel once the sun comes up. You’ll have to force yourself, if not, you’ll feel terrible." he said and she nodded, saying no more words before going into her room.
Once she was gone, Maxwell looked at his phone and sent a reply. Then, he picked up his pace and went to his own room. There were a ’few’ things he needed to settle before he could think of getting any sleep.
The next morning, Jane woke up with red eyes and swollen cheeks.
"Now that’s the definition of a pufferfish." Maxwell remarked with a smirk and drank his coffee.
"Ugh, I feel terrible." She groaned as she approached, sat on the kitchen stool, and bowed her head on the table.
"Of course you do. You cried a lot, drank a lot of coffee and stayed up late. Were you expecting to feel like a rainbow once you wake up?" He asked in a sarcastic tone and she felt he was just repeating the words he told her before she went to bed and an irk formed on her head. "I warned you."
She tried to sleep. She really did but she couldn’t. She’d say she only got three hours of sleep, at most.
But what was with him? Why was he looking like that?
"You don’t look too good yourself." She said, referring to the dark eye bags under his eyes. "Pour me a coffee."
"Is that any way to talk to your big brother?" he asked, his grin extending across his face and she rolled her eyes.
"A big brother who almost ruined his own marriage with his mouth." She remarked and got down to get her coffee herself. "You’re lucky your wife is very trusting."
"Of course. Would I be carefree otherwise?"
She rolled her eyes once more. Then, he snatched the fresh mug of coffee she had brewed and replaced it with another.
"Hey."
"I believe you had one too many coffee yesterday." He said and she looked in the mug. "Drink that instead."
It was hot cocoa. Not her favorite but he was right about the coffee so she accepted it.
"No thank you?" He asked and she sneered,
"You’re welcome."
It was a trick he made up himself so it was nice to throw it back at him.
"What time are we leaving?" She asked him, taking light sips of the cocoa.
"It depends on you. You’re the surgeon." He said and she nodded, making her way to her room with the mug in her hand.
He watched her as she left and sipped the coffee she had made. He looked at the mug, impressed at her skills. Well, a person obsessed with coffee needed to at least be great at making it.
But he was sure the coffee he makes is better so he nodded his head.
"Is there anything I can’t do?"
"Narcissist much!" Jane said, coming out of her room with a pack of biscuits in her hand. It seems she hadn’t gone to get ready yet.
"What can I say? There’s not so many people who are as perfect as me. So you should count yourself lucky that you know me." he said, still feeling proud of himself.
"I’ll only consider myself lucky if I find a perfect person to get married to." She said and sighed. "But I guess there’s no perfect person in the world."
She opened the pack of biscuits and stuck one in her mouth.
"Why did you take the cocoa with you if you were going to return with it anyway?"
"I don’t know, maybe I was scared someone would drink half of it and make up a silly excuse why."
An irk formed in his head. Was that her appreciation for him being considerate?
"Anyway, hurry up and get ready."
The morning was rather normal and easy going and in a few hours, they got out of the hotel, ready to start their operation.
"Where did these people come from?" Jane asked, staring at the group of men waiting by Maxwell’s car.
"I contacted them when we were on the plane." Maxwell answered and approached the car.
She remembered him typing away on his laptop. Was it then?
"Boss, we’re ready." One of them, presumably the leader of the squad, announced and he nodded.
"Wait, what do we need so many people for? It’s just to get some files, right?" She asked and he glanced over his shoulders.
"Of course but... Serena likes to play dirty so we have to be ready at any moment."
It was worth considering but what exactly did he mean when he said they had to be ready at any time? How exactly was Serena going to play dirty at a hospital?
Her eyes suddenly widened as she realized what was going to happen and she grabbed his arm.
"There’s a bomb?"
