Chapter 595: Look at dad

Daisy Ginger wasn’t sure if she was overthinking it, perhaps "idolizing" this child too much. Yet, seeing him swinging his little feet happily after looking at Edward Stephens’ photo, she felt a mix of emotions.

Anyway, he must really like Edward Stephens, really, really like him. After all, he rarely shows his preferences. Even painting was just a hobby she found for him. In fact, Daisy thought that if she had given him a piano back then, Erin Ginger might have been a little piano prodigy by now.

He learns everything so quickly that it makes him not very interested in anything.

Edward Stephens is probably the first person in his little life that he’s interested in and likes.

Blood ties are such a strange thing. Even though they’ve never met, they somehow link them all together.

Daisy Ginger felt a bit jealous and pinched Erin’s little cheek, asking, "Who does Erin like the most in this world?"

Hearing her words, Erin looked up at her, blinking his eyes.

He didn’t say anything, just wrapped his arms around Daisy’s neck and planted a big smooch on her cheek.

He let his actions speak for him.

Daisy Ginger contemplated taking Erin to meet Edward Stephens.

She wasn’t worried that Edward wouldn’t recognize him—after all, he didn’t recognize him when he was normal, either—just wanted to cheer Erin up a bit.

She didn’t plan on staying at the Stephens family residence, so after arranging a time with Lady Stephens to visit Edward, she took her leave.

Two hours later, Daisy rented a ready-to-move-in three-story townhouse near the private hospital where Edward was currently staying.

She could manage living alone, but since Erin was with her, she didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. After all, Erin was raised in luxury at the Shelton house.

At the appointed time with Lady Stephens, Daisy took a cab to wait for her at the hospital entrance.

In the car, Erin sat beside her, looking a bit nervous.

"Mommy," little Erin called her.

Daisy looked down.

"What happened to Daddy?"

Unexpectedly, Erin asked this question, and Daisy hesitated.

She didn’t know whether to tell him about Edward’s current state.

"He got hit by a car and lost his mind," Daisy patted his head, with a tone of sympathy.

Little Erin blinked, looking somewhat puzzled.

"Daddy doesn’t recognize me?"

"He doesn’t recognize you." But then, he never did recognize you.

"Oh—" Erin nodded, his long eyelashes like dense little fans casting shadows over his round face, showing a thoughtful expression.

Daisy comforted him, "You can get to know each other again."

"Hmm," Erin responded.

Seeing his serious expression, Daisy couldn’t help but chuckle but then felt she couldn’t laugh anymore, thinking of Edward’s condition.

Who knows what expression Edward will have when he sees Erin; will he like him? Or, as before, not recognize him at all...

She just hoped Erin wouldn’t be disappointed.

Half an hour later, the taxi stopped at the hospital entrance.

After swiping her card to pay, Daisy took Erin’s hand and waited at the entrance for Lady Stephens to arrive.

Since it was a private hospital, visitors couldn’t come and go freely. Even Daisy needed someone familiar with Edward to take her inside.

Soon, Lady Stephens’ car stopped in front of her.

"Daisy!"

Today Lady Stephens wore a black wool coat, likely tailored by the Stephens’ tailor. The cut was elegant, and the family crest at the sleeve shimmered under the sun with its gold-embroidered thread.

"Why did you come out first?" Lady Stephens panted, "I waited at home for you for so long without seeing you return. Where did you go?"

"I went out to find a place," Daisy smiled, "It’s nearby."

"What do you need a place for..." Lady Stephens pursed her lips, feeling a bit sad as she understood Daisy’s reluctance, but it wouldn’t be good to say anything. She showed her identification to the guard and escorted Daisy into the hospital.

They took the elevator all the way to the top floor. Daisy finally arrived at Edward Stephens’ ward door again.

Before entering, laughter from a man and woman came from the ajar door.

"...Edward was so cool in school; he was the famously cool guy on campus! So many boys and girls were infatuated with his suit! There were several guys from each department who sent him love letters!" — That was Ryan Smith’s voice.

"Wow, Mr. Stephens was popular with both genders!" — That was a woman’s voice of amazement.

"Exactly! Once, when we went to the cafeteria, this huge guy from the sports department blocked his way! Man, he pinned Edward against the wall, and I was stunned!"

...

Lady Stephens stood at the door, stunned as well.

Daisy hesitated, looking down at little Erin, wondering if she should cover his ears.

Possibly hearing the noise at the door, the conversation inside suddenly quieted, steps approached, and then Ryan appeared at the door.

Seeing Daisy and Lady Stephens, his smile froze immediately. Discussing a friend’s romantic history in front of his ex-wife and his mother seemed a bit inappropriate...

"Edward, your son is here to see you!"

Ryan hollered into the room.

Daisy led Erin inside and then looked toward the bed.

Edward Stephens’ wheelchair was right by the bed. Coco, the female rehab therapist, was sitting on it, her eyes and brows relaxed with a smile. Seeing Lady Stephens enter, she promptly stood up properly;

Edward leaned against the headboard, and compared to Ryan and Coco’s lightheartedness, he seemed extremely indifferent, as if he had no interest at all in his past self that Ryan was talking about, his expression exceptionally cold.

At Ryan’s words, his gaze fell on little Erin beside Daisy. It was only then that his previously calm demeanor showed a hint of surprise.

—Compared to having an ex-wife, he seemed more surprised to have such a big son with her.

"Lady Stephens," Coco walked over to her, "Mr. Stephens has just completed his rehab; I’ll leave now and not disturb you."

Lady Stephens nodded, then walked over to Edward, "Edward, mother is here to see you."

Edward’s reaction to her was different from before. Having no memory, though knowing this person was his mother, he didn’t feel any affection.

He gave a slightly perfunctory nod, his gaze fixed tightly on Erin. Feeling the gaze, clear and cold, little Erin, held by Daisy, looked up with a face strikingly similar to Edward’s, meeting his eyes.

Absolutely remarkable.

Ryan couldn’t help but applaud from the side.

That expression was a complete replica of Edward’s! This kid’s genes are just too strong!
