Chapter 393: A Qualm Of Fear.

Nicklaus blinked in surprise. He watched Arissa turn away from him. She seemed to be giving up on them and it boiled him from inside.

"Arissa, stop this," Nicklaus shunned her. He caught hold of her right wrist and spun her back in his direction, forcing her to face him again.

He held both sides of her arms firmly, "This isn’t important. It isn’t your fault you keep on having crazy unrealistic nightmares. What I care about is you and not what you’ll become," ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Arissa searched his eyes, "This nightmare is very important, Nicklaus," she argued, "Your mother made you suffer a lot and I can’t imagine myself doing the same. The world we find ourselves involves crime and who knows what I might be forced to do to you," visible dear ruled Arissa.

It clouded her eyes and controlled her whole body language.

Nicklaus’s grip on Arissa’s arms tightened, "You are nothing like my mother," he yelled at her face, "I don’t want to know what you might be forced to do to be safe. If you have to do anything to be safe, do it. Do not bat an eyelid and do it... even if it will hurt me,"

Arissa stiffened. Her chest tightened and words left her mouth. Her eyes turned red and more tears rolled out.

Nicklaus went on, "I want you to always remain safe,"

"No Nick," Arissa shook her head. She stared down at the floor and snort escaped her nose, "No, please don’t say something like that. I don’t want you saying_"

Nicklaus placed a hand over her mouth to stop her from saying more. Arissa went silent the moment his hand clasped on her lips. "Do you believe in me?" he gasped.

Arissa gulped.

"Do you?" Nicklaus asked again.

Arissa raised her head to the ceiling and widened her eyes as if to control her tears. Her body turned numb and she limply fell to the floor.

Nicklaus watched her reduce to the floor. He held himself back from stopping her and just made her go down softly.

Arissa dragged her knees to herself and hugged herself, "I’m terrified... I was drenched in blood, your blood. Why don’t you want to believe me?" she said weakly, in a trembling voice.

Nicklaus stepped away from her. He ran a frustrated hand through his hair and on t her height.

"I love you, Arissa and that’s why I want you to believe me. I never planned to become a fool like my father was but now, I no longer mind. Ever since I realized my feelings for you, I can’t do anything anymore," he cupped her face in his palm and smiled at her, "I only want to protect you and love you. I want us to be happier than ever,"

Arissa shut her eyes to prevent herself from looking into his eyes, "But I can’t forget what you told me about your mum."

"And you don’t look anything like my mum," Nicklaus retorted, "I shouldn’t have told you about her," he sounded regretful, "You spent your time thinking so much about her, which resulted this. I think the nightmare is just out of your mind,"

"I’ve been having this nightmare even before you told me about her," Arissa said softly, "If I have had a dream like this, I can’t be with you without a qualm or fear. Don’t be so good to me. Nicklaus, I think... from the start, I think we’re not destined to be together,"

Nicklaus’s face turned pale at her claim, "No," he pulled her into his arm and pressed her head on his chest.

Arissa’s heart skipped a beat when she listened to how heartbeat art beat. His heartbeat sounded so frightening and she felt guilty.

"Please don’t say things like this. Love, things like this terrifies me." He gripped her more, "When you told me you’re pregnant, you set my whole world up again in the right position and gave me all the courage I needed to face this world again," he smiled at himself, "Let’s wipe the slate clean, forget about the nightmare and let’s continue from where we are or better still, start all over again,"

The pain and pvoice brokevoicebrokek Arissa’s heart. She raised her hand to his back to hug him but hugging him suddenly became difficult. Her hands refused to be wrapped around his back and she ended up tightening her fists.

She sniffed in his cologne and stiffly returned her hand to herself. Nicklaus gave her a light pat on her head with repeated kisses.

"I can’t Nick," Arissa refused, "It’s never that easy," she said, trying to push her away. However, Nicklaus held her tight and refused to let go.

"Nicklaus, please let me go," Arissa pleaded. She took her face off his chest and met his eyes. Nicklaus immediately pressed her head back into his chest and wrapped his hands tightly around her.

Slowly, Nicklaus let go of her. He dropped a kiss on her nose which made Arissa smile briefly.

"Alright, I thought this would make you feel better, I’ll step away for a moment but I won’t let this ruin our relationship. I’ll always be by your side and until you accept that you can’t hurt me, I’ll never leave your side and that’s not for you to decide,"

He cleared his throat, "Let’s change the topic, what would my queen who’s trying to run away from me want to have this morning?"

Arissa’s mood lifted at his impossibly casual tune. After all, she said, his voice sounded a bit too casual. He sounded unbother and she believed it was also time for her to feel like he does.

Pushing her worries to the back of her mind, she smiled at him, "Thank you, Nick,"

Nicklaus raised a brow at her, "What for?"

Arissa blinked in thought, "For... I don’t know,"

Nicklaus smiled at her. Even without words, he understands her and he perfectly understands her. She was grateful to act on what he had experienced from his mother.

He gently cradled her into his arms and stood straight. He placed a sweet kiss on her lips, causing Arissa to blush, "Let me get you prepared for breakfast,"

He moved towards the direction of the bathroom. Although his face looked okay and relaxed, his mind remained in chaos.
