Chapter 319: A Thousand Hours.

Some voted that love changes people while some voted that it destroys people and leaves them broken but whichever way or changes it brings, it doesn’t change the fact that you won’t become the same person you once were while in love.

A lot of things about you would change even if it’s minor and drastic and if it should be true love, you see yourself working hard every day to become a better version of yourself for that person.

And that was the case with Nicklaus. From all the years he has spent on Earth, he has never cared about people’s opinion of him but now he does.

Surprisingly, he was standing, staring at the mirror for a moment now. He has always looked his best without trying because he was born handsome. He doesn’t even need to try but right now, he wants to appear his best before Arissa tonight which was his reason for adding all the effort he could channel into everything he prepared for tonight.

It was 4 pm already and he made sure everything had been completed. Now his only focus was on his looks for tonight and for her bedroom.

Appearing his best was his goal for tonight. He first washed his face and dried it with a hand towel before searching in between his toiletries for a particular cream. Reaching for his shaving cream, he applied a portion into his palm and used it on his jawlines.

While waiting for the cream in his jawline to dry off, he walked out of the bathroom. He was about to close the door behind him and walk into the room when he heard his phone beep, signaling a caller.

His brow tightened at the thought of one of the higher-ups members calling him. Fury found themselves at the tip of his tongue. Words of anger to spit out so they would stop their constant calling also prepared themselves.

He reached for his phone on top of his twin sink and when he saw the caller, all emotions created from irritation and anger vanished from him without a trace.

He gulped softly and the corners of his lips lifted into a bright charming smile. Using his fingers, he combed the hair strands falling over his face backward and impatiently replied to the call.

"Love?"

At the other end, Arissa’s toes curled at his fast reply and when he addressed her that way, she nervously bit on her fingers and took a step away from the door to relax on the wall for better support.

"Nick?" she called softly with a small pout and slowly, from her standing position she reduced to the floor level. She relaxed her back on the wall with her ass an inch away from reaching the floor.

Nicklaus’s emotions changed from pleased to pre relaxed, "Love? Did something happen?" he felt her stress.

Arissa let out a soft sigh, "I think yes," she replied.

Nicklaus’s jaw tightened, "The news? Did the citizens make you feel uncomfortable?" as he spoke, he found his way out of the room to reach for his laptop. He needed to know how bad the news could be and what people might now be saying about his wife.

Arissa kept mute, staring at the marble floor wondering if she should let him know her mother was in the same place as she.

"Arissa_"

She cut him off, "Are you busy?"

"Tell me, did the news make you feel uncomfortable?" he asked, pushing her question away as irrelevant. Her well-being is first and not his.

Arissa sniffed, "The citizens did nothing," she told him, her voice close to breaking down. "I just want to hear you speaking, I feel like it’s been a thousand hours since I left your side," she gave him honest feedback. This was how she felt at the moment. freewebnøvel.coɱ

She felt lonely and somehow sad because of the memories that had to surface themselves in her mind again and seeing her mother physically worsened the whole of it.

However, she did not let him know about any of that. She honestly just wanted to be in his arms again and hear him speak to her after kissing her.

Nicklaus’s fingers typing on his laptop froze for a moment. Her confession stunned him, and her voice sounded genuine.

Does this mean she was beginning to share what he feels? Is he no longer alone on this? The feeling that would make her stay even after two years, are they catching up with her?

"A hug and a kiss is all I want from you," Arissa added when Nicklaus stayed for seconds without saying a word.

Nicklaus chuckled softly and moved away from his laptop, "If that is the case, a hug and a kiss you shall get," he promised.

Arissa let out a sigh of relief, "Thank you," she appreciated him and stayed quiet.

Nicklaus enjoyed the silence between them for a moment before saying, "I’m not busy," technically, he lied.

He was still busy. He planned to arrange her room himself with the flowers and candles lights but someone else could do that if his wife needed him.

Arissa smiled at the other end, "Really? In that case, can we continue the rest of the day until I’m back home this way? Talking all through?"

Nicklaus hummed, "Like we won’t hang up on each other?" he hates phone calls and her request seems tasking but for her, he would go to extra lengths.

Arissa nodded, "Yes. I just want to keep on hearing your voice. I kinda feel lonely," she was no longer running from how she truly felt.

Nicklaus chuckled, "You miss me that much?" his voice carried surprise in them.

"I do," slowly, she dropped to the floor until she fully sat on the floor.

Nicklaus walked toward the bathroom, "If that’s the case, you’ll see me in person,"

Arissa’s face became red, "Okay, but don’t end the call until you arrive. I have something to tell you,"

Nicklaus hummed, interested, "Go on, I’m listening,"

Arissa giggled, "Not now, we’ll talk when you come in person. Right now, I just want to know the little things you are doing and hear you breathe," she told him.

Nicklaus chuckled, he took the phone off his ear and drooped it at a spot she could view him from all angles when he got into his deep bath, he suggested. "Okay, baby. We can switch over to a face time if you want," at this moment, he was taking his towel off his waist.

Arissa’s eyes sparkled and without wasting a second more, she switched over to a face time as he had suggested.

"What the hell, Nick?!!" a scream immediately left her lips.
