His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 58: Uneasiness
Chapter 58 - Uneasiness
Shuri sent Karlene a screenshot of a waiter.
In the image, the waiter was carrying a tray of drinks, and some had apparently spilled.
He appeared distressed, clutching the tray awkwardly and glancing at his phone.
Karlene rewatched part of the footage and noticed the waiter emerging from the back door before the incident.
Puzzled, she texted Shuri, "He probably spilled the drinks, which is why he looks distressed. How is that suspicious?"
Shuri replied quickly, "Any experienced waiter wouldn't hold a tray like that. He must be new.
It's normal for a new waiter to make mistakes or spill drinks, but they'd usually be anxious, looking at the spilled drinks and being more careful as they go back.
However, this waiter seems more focused on his phone. Don't you find that strange?"
Karlene's eyes lit up as she read Shuri's message.
She quickly looked through the club employee's list and found the waiter.
The waiter's name was Ian Hardy, and indeed he was someone newly employed by the club.
Karlene quickly texted back, "You're right, sis! He's indeed new. It's a shame you're a veterinarian. You'd make such a fine detective."
Karlene was always proud of her sister, who often caught things she couldn't.
Shuri's keen eye and calm demeanor had taught Karlene to be less hot-headed and more rational.
Even though Shuri was younger, Karlene considered her a role model.
After thanking Shuri, she quickly pulled up Ian's statement sent by the police.
As expected, it provided no valuable information.
"A bunch of useless guys..." Karlene muttered under her breath.
The police seemed inefficient, and she couldn't trust them to handle this properly.
She informed Ethan about her latest finding and sent a message to May to dig deeper into Ian's background.
She decided to trust Shuri's instincts and take matters into her own hands.
...
Shuri went to Sung Medical Hospital to conduct her weekly animal-assisted therapy session with Happy.
After the session, a nurse approached her. "Dr. Lee, Dr. Sung would like to speak with you."
Shuri wondered what it might be.
She wasn't entirely comfortable with Sigmund but thought if it were related to her work, it was better to follow the nurse.
The nurse led her to Sigmund's office, a well-furnished space with large windows and a desk neatly organized with files and books.
Sigmund rose from his chair, greeting Shuri with a polite smile. "Dr. Lee, thank you for taking the time to meet with me. I hope I'm not interrupting your schedule."
"Not at all," Shuri replied. "Is there something you'd like to discuss with me, Dr. Sung?"
Sigmund nodded, gesturing for her to take a seat. "What do you think about working in an animal hospital, Dr. Lee?"
Shuri widened her eyes a little in surprise at his question.
Sigmund sat back down and continued, "You see, our hospital is planning to expand, and as part of that expansion, we're opening an animal hospital. We believe you would be the perfect candidate to join us in this new venture as the director."
"Director? I'm honored, Dr. Sung. But that's quite a significant position, and I don't think I'm suitable to take up the role."
Sigmund leaned forward, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"I think you're more than suitable, Dr. Lee. I'm incredibly impressed with your work here. Your expertise and dedication to animal-assisted therapy are remarkable. It'd be great to have you join our team."
"You flatter me, Dr. Sung. There's so much more I need to learn. I don't think I'm qualified enough."
Sigmund's expression shifted.
He rose from his seat and walked over to Shuri, who was still seated.
She was startled when he suddenly leaned over her, their faces inches apart.
"Dr. Lee, you will join us," he said softly, his voice carrying an eerie undertone.
Shuri felt a strange power in his voice, almost hypnotic.
There was something unsettling about the way he spoke that command.
She felt an invisible force creeping into her mind, trying to seize control of her thoughts and actions.
Her body felt heavy, her limbs unresponsive.
Panic surged through her, but she couldn't move.
Just then, Happy growled, sensing Shuri's distress.
The golden retriever leapt forward, positioning herself between Sigmund and Shuri, barking furiously and baring her teeth.
The sudden protective move caused Sigmund to stumble back, his face twisted in shock.
As soon as Sigmund moved away, Shuri broke free from the spell.
She shot up from her seat, her eyes blazing with anger. "Dr. Sung, that was clearly a violation. Is that how you persuade your staff? By intimidation and coercion?"
Sigmund raised his hands defensively, trying to regain his composure. "Dr. Lee, I assure you, that was not my intention."
"Your actions say otherwise," Shuri frowned as she tried to keep her cool.
"If this is how you conduct yourself, then I have no interest in being part of your team."
With that, she picked up her handbag and left the office with Happy.
Sigmund watched the door close behind her, his face darkening with frustration.
He clenched his fists, feeling the sting of his failed attempt.
Although he had only used the Voice of Command once today on Shuri, he doubted he could utilize it again.
He had previously practiced enhancing his ability, putting in twice the strength until he could feel his vocal cords straining.
The effort had left his throat raw and his voice on the verge of cracking.
He knew that if he attempted it again, he would likely lose his voice for a week.
The fact that he had exerted double the strength on Shuri and still failed to hypnotize her was infuriating.
Previously, he had done a thorough background check on Shuri.
Besides being the daughter of the CEO of Co.Lee, her history appeared rather normal.
Yet, she had resisted him.
Sigmund couldn't help but feel a twisted sense of excitement.
Shuri would make a perfect test subject for his power.
His eyes gleamed with a disturbing fervor as he murmured, "I need to find a way to get hold of her..."
He sat back down at his desk, his mind already racing with plans on how to get Shuri to his side.
This was far from over.
...
Shuri headed back home, unable to shake the feeling of unease lingering from her encounter with Sigmund.
Something about him felt deeply suspicious, and at times like this, she wished she still had her divine ability to see through people.
But in this life, without that power, she had to rely on her instincts and be more cautious.
She considered quitting her therapy sessions at the hospital, but the thought of abandoning her patients made her heart ache.
They relied on her, and she couldn't just leave them.
Sighing, she patted Happy, who was licking her hand in comfort.
"Thank you, Happy. I'm glad you're always there for me," she said softly.
Happy seemed to understand, nudging her head against Shuri's leg with a comforting presence.
After feeding Happy dinner, Shuri decided to take a shower.
The encounter with Sigmund had left her so disturbed that she had forgotten to buy dinner on her way back.
She opened the fridge, only to find it empty of anything useful.
She glanced at Happy, who was resting comfortably on her dog bed. "Wait for me at home, alright? I'll go get my dinner."
Happy wagged her tail lazily, giving Shuri a look of understanding.
Before grabbing her keys, Shuri took a quick look at Noran's balcony and realized it was still dark.
"He's not home yet?" Shuri wondered.
She hadn't seen Noran recently after his last visit and noticed he had been coming back late.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't curious about what he had been busy with. freёweɓnovel.com
He used to visit her every day, but now she hardly saw him at all.
Shuri shook her head, mentally scolding herself, "Stop acting like this. Why are you looking out for him when you're supposed to avoid him?"
Clearing her thoughts, she drove to the nearby convenience store, bought her dinner, and returned to her apartment's underground parking lot.
As she parked her car and got out, she froze in her tracks when she saw Noran stepping out of a luxurious car a distance away.
Her eyes widened, and she almost dropped her dinner upon noticing he wasn't alone.
A stunningly beautiful woman with long blonde hair, dressed in professional business attire that screamed elegance and class, stepped out beside him while carrying Snowball.
She couldn't see Noran's expression, but she could tell the woman seemed close to Noran.
She chatted and smiled at him as they walked into the elevator.
Who was this woman?
What was Noran doing with her?
He even brought her back home.
At that moment, Shuri felt a pang of something she didn't want to acknowledge—jealousy.
Her hands tightened around the plastic bag of her dinner, and she stood there, hidden in the shadows of the parking lot, unable to move.
Then, she let out a soft chuckle and murmured, "So, he's been coming back late because he's busy dating huh?"
