His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 119: Picking a Fight on Purpose
"I heard from Quinn that today is Willow’s birthday. What a coincidence. Just wait for me here for a bit—once I finish filming, let’s go have dinner together."
Kiana Sutton felt a little embarrassed and was just about to decline, but Julian Garrison had already turned and left.
She glanced down at Willow, and saw Willow gazing dreamily after Julian’s departing figure, her fists propping up her chin in full fan-girl mode.
"He’s so handsome. I bet even the way he eats is cool."
Seeing how much Willow liked Julian, Kiana thought it’d be nice to have him celebrating Willow’s birthday with them—after all, who knows if they’d get another chance like this later on.
Julian didn’t keep Kiana and Willow waiting for long. He came back after filming and took them to a private kitchen-style restaurant.
"Go tell your boss to bring out all the signature dishes," he said.
Julian was generous as ever. Kiana worried that the three of them wouldn’t be able to eat much, so she gestured carefully, "Maybe order two fewer dishes? It’ll be wasted if we can’t finish."
"Don’t worry; there are more people coming."
Kiana froze for a moment. Julian invited someone else?
The food was served quickly, each dish fragrant and beautiful, stirring up everyone’s appetite.
Julian noticed Kiana and Willow eyeing the food hungrily and picked up his chopsticks with a smile toward them, "Let’s dig in."
Kiana gestured several times, and Willow obediently translated, "Aren’t we waiting for your friend?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Him..."
Julian looked at Kiana, the corner of his mouth lifting in a cryptic smile, "Trust me, his mind won’t be on food. Go ahead and eat—you don’t have to wait for him."
At that moment, Willow tugged gently on Kiana’s sleeve, "Kiana, I’m hungry."
Kiana chuckled, picked up her chopsticks, and served her some food, "Eat up."
Halfway through the meal, Julian’s assistant came in carrying a cake.
"Willow, sweetie, happy birthday! I’ll sing you the birthday song—let’s blow out the candles together, yeah?"
"Yes, yes!" Willow was so happy she almost jumped up.
Kiana hadn’t expected Julian to be so thoughtful. He always seemed carefree and playboyish on the surface, but he was pretty considerate underneath it all.
"Happy birthday to you... Happy birthday to you..."
The moment Julian started singing, even the magpies perched outside seemed to flutter their wings and fly away.
Honestly, someone who could sing ’Happy Birthday’ so off-key—there’s probably no one else like him, throughout history and around the world.
He was a music dunce. What kind of confidence does he have to release songs? And his fans just blindly hype him up.
But really, who cares about being off-key? Having fun is what matters most.
Kiana couldn’t sing the birthday song for Willow, so she just clapped along to the rhythm instead.
After the birthday song, Julian helped Willow blow out the candles, and Kiana took out her phone, snapping a bunch of photos of the two.
When Ethan Sinclair arrived at the restaurant, what he saw was a warm, happy scene bursting with joy.
Julian was hugging Willow, and Willow had dabbed a bit of whipped cream on Julian’s handsome face with her finger.
Julian just laughed and dotted cream on Willow’s nose in return.
Meanwhile, Kiana stood by, smiling at them with a look of pure affection in her eyes.
Kiana loved to smile, but her usual smile always seemed a bit polite; she rarely showed such a radiant, genuinely happy expression.
Then Ethan remembered the photo Julian sent him earlier—the one of "the three of us as a family"—and his face darkened even more.
A real happy little family, huh!
"Seems like I showed up at the wrong moment."
The lively, cheerful birthday trio all turned to look at Ethan, having heard his cold voice.
As soon as Kiana saw him, her smile slowly faded. Remembering what had happened two nights ago, her face clouded—why was he here?
Was Ethan the friend Julian mentioned?
Then why hadn’t Julian told her?
Kiana frowned at Julian.
Julian, hopeless as ever, could sense the strange tension between Kiana and Ethan.
He gave Kiana a sheepish grin, "Ian found out you came looking for me, so he told me to keep you for dinner. Actually, he reserved this restaurant and he’s treating."
Kiana pressed her lips together—Julian was obviously lying.
Ethan hated her, couldn’t stand her—there’s no way he came here because of her.
"Man, you’re so slow! We’re almost finished eating."
He put Willow down and leaned toward Ethan’s ear, speaking just loudly enough for only the two of them to hear, "What’d you do to piss her off again?"
In Ethan’s eyes, every action from Kiana screamed that she didn’t want to see him!
Heh...
She’d take photos with Julian, but didn’t want to see him. Was Julian really the one she liked?
If he thought about it, he and Kiana didn’t even have a single photo together.
Ethan shot Julian a frosty look, the chill in his eyes making Julian shiver slightly.
Damn, now he’d really stepped in it.
Then Ethan turned his icy gaze to Kiana, "Weren’t you all having fun just now? As soon as I walk in, the mood drops. Am I crashing your happy little family?"
"Come on, don’t say that. We were just waiting for you!"
"Really?"
Ethan’s cold eyes fell on the already-blown candles on the cake and the half-eaten dishes.
Does this look like waiting?
When Kiana heard "happy little family," she thought Ethan came here on purpose to pick a fight.
Willow was so scared of Ethan that she hid behind Kiana. So Kiana looked at Julian, smiled, and signed to him, "Mr. Garrison, thank you for celebrating Willow’s birthday with us today. It’s getting late—we won’t keep you any longer. Goodbye."
Kiana didn’t look at Ethan’s expression, just took Willow’s hand, ready to leave. Julian, seeing Ethan’s murderous look, was instantly alarmed.
What the hell?
He’d originally wanted a front-row seat to Ethan’s jealous pouting and maybe catch some drama between Fifth Master Sinclair and his mute little wife.
But things were going totally off-script!
Isn’t Kiana supposed to like Ethan?
This isn’t right!
She wasn’t even trying to explain?
Watching Kiana about to leave and Ethan on the verge of erupting, Julian hurriedly jumped in to block Kiana’s way, "It’s really hard to catch a cab at this hour. Just head back with Ian when you’re done!"
He didn’t give Kiana a chance to sign, and anxiously added, "Also, there’s still cake left—you can’t just waste it. Uh... Take your time. I’ve got something to run to, so I’m out!"
And like that, Julian made his escape—so fast even Willow was stunned.
There were only three people left in the private room.
Kiana’s thoughts were in utter chaos—she should’ve known better than to praise Julian for being such a good guy.
"Kiana..."
Willow called her softly, and Kiana looked down at her.
Willow snuck a look at the cake on the table and whispered, "That cake’s really delicious. Can I take it with me?"
