Help! I Became A Guy In A BL Novel!-Chapter 96: Caged
Chapter 96: Caged
Soren’s cold glare could have frozen a blazing fire. Standing at the doorway, his arms folded tightly over his chest, he looked like he was ready to rip Ronan apart without a second thought. He barely kept his voice in check as he spoke.
Ronan sighed, he should have ignored the knocking.
"Since it’s over, get out of my house." Soren warned.
Ronan glanced back over his shoulder to make sure Riven was still sound asleep. Once he was certain that his mate hadn’t stirred, he slowly closed the door, keeping his movements calm and measured.
All the gentleness he had shown earlier had vanished, his gaze icy as he looked Soren straight in the eyes.
"I will be taking back my mate," Ronan declared firmly. His voice was resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.
Soren scoffed, his eyes narrowing. "Even if Riven wanted to go back, which he doesn’t, I won’t let that happen. Unlike you, I don’t care if Riven hates me. I’ll use any method to keep him by my side."
Ronan’s eyes narrowed and his frown deepened. He wasn’t fazed by Soren’s arrogance—he had already expected a reaction like this. "You can try, but I know for a fact that Riven can’t stay away from me. Denying my mate is cruelty. You know it just as well as I do."
Soren smirked, "You know how many resources, riches and people I have under me. I will find a way to sever the connection if I have to."
Ronan’s jaw tightened, but he remained silent. Soren continued, his voice dropping to a dangerously low tone.
"I do not mind starting a clan war. After all I am not the pathetic fool trying to suck up to everyone and prove to everyone I’m a capable leader. I take a straightforward approach, I simply kill anyone who dares to speak against me. Can you do that? Can you protect Riven against your prejudiced elders?"
Ronan looked away for a moment, guilt briefly flashing through his icy blue eyes. He couldn’t deny his past, he could not deny Soren’s words. He was stupid before, but now, he saw things clearly. "Yes, I can. I don’t mind killing anyone for him, even the elders."
But even so, he was not going to back down.
"I know I made mistakes," Ronan admitted, his voice a bit softer. "But I will make it right. I won’t leave him again. You should know that a bond like ours can’t be severed. No matter how much you try to keep him, his wolf will always yearn for me. That’s the truth. Keeping him from me is like locking him in a cage."
That was not a bad idea, was it? Locking him in a cage. Soren smiled wickedly, imagining it. Like he said, he did not care if Riven would come to hate him. Hate will fade with time, and he would keep him locked up until then. Unlike Ronan, he was not someone that hoped to be diplomatic in every action he takes.
The tension between them was suffocating. Ronan didn’t continue the argument. Soren would never back down, and neither would he. They were at an impasse.
Soren was willing to cross any line to keep Riven at his side, even if it meant making himself the villain.
Meanwhile, inside the room, Riven stirred awake. His ears picked up snippets of the conversation, though the words were muffled. With a groggy frown, he muttered to himself, "Are they in the middle of an argument about the custody agreement?"
He slowly sat up, running a hand through his messy black hair. His green eyes were blurry from sleep, and his body ached pleasantly from earlier. He couldn’t help but let out a soft groan before slumping back down on the bed.
Riven couldn’t deny that after being fully mated, he felt different. There was an annoying pull in his chest whenever Ronan wasn’t close, like some invisible thread that yanked on his heartstrings. Being apart from his mate for too long would probably mess him up, and he cursed this world’s stupid rules for making him feel this way.
"Stupid world rules," he mumbled, half annoyed and half resigned. Why did mating bonds have to be so clingy? If he’d known this would happen, he might’ve just run away to some secluded forest. Then again, he would probably die of loneliness, he needed hot men, so that plan wasn’t too viable.
But right now, he needed to get back to business. He had to find Raphael and make sure Eli was okay. His little bunny probably needed some reassurance after being left alone for so long. Riven stretched, feeling his muscles protest, but he couldn’t afford to lie around all day.
He swung his legs over the side of the bed and decided to get up, but his legs felt a bit wobbly. Typical. Of course, his body had to betray him like this. Rubbing his sore neck, he absentmindedly traced over Ronan’s bite mark.
He wasn’t sure how to feel about it just yet. Part of him was happy to finally be claimed—because deep down, he always wanted Ronan, physically, mentally, and emotionally—but another part was still mad at the alpha.
Riven caught another muffled growl from outside and sighed. Are they seriously still at it?
Yawning and stretching his sore muscles, he slipped out of bed, Ronan’s shirt draping loosely over his frame. It was way too big for him, but it was surprisingly comfortable and carried Ronan’s scent, which made him feel oddly at ease.
He dragged himself to the door, opened it just a crack, and peered out. Soren looked like he was ready to snap someone’s neck, while Ronan stood firm and unbothered, arms crossed as if nothing could shake his confidence.
"Come on, guys," Riven called out with a raised brow. "Why so serious?" Riven just had a good time, so he was not in the mood to get angry, he also failed to read the room.
