Chapter 25: Secret Coven

Three of the leaders, along with their companions, sat in different sections of the classroom, while one leader, Liam, stood at the teacher's podium. He began by addressing the matter at hand.

"The reason I have gathered you all here is to discuss the partnerships for the upcoming special exercise. The school wants us to form groups of three, with each member belonging to a different class. Failure to do so will result in punishment for the entire group. We need to establish a new agreement to protect our class."

"Forgive my ignorance, but I thought that matter had already been resolved. We all had an agreement, am I right?"

The question came from Julius Fontaine, the Class C leader, and the source of Sarah's restlessness. He had blonde hair and a slightly muscular build. Since entering the classroom, he hadn't so much as glanced in my direction. They were being petty, ignoring me just as I had ignored them for the past few days.

"Not all of us," Liam replied.

"Well, all the relevant classes do, anyway. I don't see the point in discussing this further. Why should we change our plans for some leftovers?"

"We are all relevant. No class should be left out. If things continue like this, all of Class D will be punished. It would make it impossible for us to forge future alliances with them. It's better to have them as friends than as enemies."

"It doesn't matter if a few useless weeds are plucked out. I doubt they'll make much of an enemy anyway."

"I can assure you we will," I spoke up for the first time.

"Ha! Don't make me laugh. You really think your class can take on all three of us? It would serve you better to get on your knees and start begging than to make threats."

"That's a rude way of putting it, but I agree with Julius. Why should we help them? They only came running to us when they needed our assistance; they've avoided contact with us for a while now." This time, Katherine joined in. "He even had the gall to threaten us. I can say that my class doesn't want anything to do with Class D."

"I acknowledge what you're saying, but that's no reason not to—"

"If that's how it is, then so be it," I said, getting up from my chair. "We'll just have to sort this out another way."

"Sin? What are you doing?" Liam asked.

"I see no point in this anymore. If they won't form an alliance with me, then so be it. I won't lower myself to begging. I mean, why beg when you can take?"

"You really think you can beat all of us?"

"I do."

"Sin! What are you planning to do?" Liam asked, sounding a bit forceful.

"Forty students. That's the number I need to incapacitate before you're forced to partner with us. I've made a list of the weakest students from all of your classes, and for the next couple of weeks, my classmates and I will be launching full-blown assaults against them. 'Students who are injured or sick will not be able to participate in this special exercise.' That's the rule the school made. So if I can injure 40 of your classmates to the point where they can't participate, the remaining students will have no choice but to partner with my class to fill the gap and avoid punishment. It's as simple as that."

"You really think the students from the weakest class can injure a student from Class A or B?" Katherine asked, staring at me intently.

"You saw what happened to Rizor."

In a split second, Katherine launched herself from around her desk and gripped me by the collar.

"If you lay a single hand on one of my classmates, you'll pay the price."

"Enough!!" Liam's voice cut through the classroom, quelling Katherine's rage, even if only for a moment. "I've entertained your foolishness for far too long. To avoid conflicts like this, we will form an alliance that includes all four classes. If Class B and C refuse to ally with Class D, then I will refuse to partner with either class, and all first-year classes will be punished."

At this point, both Class B and C had no choice; they had to form an alliance with us.

"Tsk. You can't be serious, Liam. You can't expect us to form an alliance with them after what they just said," Katherine pleaded.

"It's best you give up on this one, Kath. I can tell his mind's made up. We don't have a choice."

Reluctantly, Katherine released my shirt collar and backed away. With things now settled, it was time to make my exit. I can't stay here with these people anymore.

"If that's all, I'll be on my way. My partner here, Sarah, will handle all the arrangements."

"Your partner, huh? That's a funny way of putting it," Julius said, smirking. "I have a question: is she your girlfriend? Because if she is, I have some bad news for you buddy."

"What do you mean?"

"I have a funny story to tell about your 'partner,'" Julius said, grinning from ear to ear. I glanced back at Sarah, but this time she showed no hint of regret. "She came to me right after the Rizor incident. She basically begged me to protect her. You know how things go, and before I knew it, she was back in my dorm room. Word is she was 'slutting herself out' to whoever offered her protection. She must have gotten scared when she found out how this school really was. Hahaha. Guess she found you in the end, right? Hahaha. She even said she had a boyfriend! Hahaha."

So that was her secret. It didn't hold any significance for me, but I understood why she wouldn't want me to find out. Earlier, when she saw Julius, she had wavered a little, but now she stood tall, without a hint of regret, her smile acting as armor that somehow seemed to harden.
