Chapter 175: Love him the way you do

Audrey pulled a pajama shirt down Mikhail’s head as he sat on his bed.

She had just finished bathing him, and he was ready to sleep for the night; she could feel his troubled mind but chose not to say anything about it. She, too, needed answers.

"Moma?" Mikhail called quietly.

Audrey sighed, "Yes, honey," She smiled at him.

"I have questions," He stared at her face.

Audrey nodded, "Okay, hit me - Ouch!" She held her ribs, glaring at Mikhail who was laughing.

"You’ve said, ’hit me,’" He pointed out. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"You little devil," She pushed him down and attacked his ribs with her fingers, tickling him.

"No, no, please! Ha-ha-ha, Moma, stop!" He kicked around, trying to get her off of him.

Audrey was relentless, she tickled Mikhail until tears fell from the sides of his eyes.

"Are you sorry?" She narrowed her eyes at him.

Mikhail vigorously nodded, "Yes, Moma, I’m sorry, I will behave, I promise," He was still giggling, looking into her green eyes with his mischievous ones.

"Good," She pulled him up to a sitting position, "Now, quit giggling and ask your question, young man," She tried to hide her smile.

Mikhail gently slapped his cheeks and cleared his throat, "Okay, serious mood activated," He said.

"Go on," Audrey nodded.

"Dora called me the young Alpha, am I really the young Alpha of this huge pack?" He asked seriously.

Audrey already knew that this was part of his questions, "Come here," She lifted him on her thighs, hugging him, "I promised never to read your mind unless you let me or if I think it’s urgently necessary, right?" She asked gently.

Mikhail nodded, "Yes, Moma."

"Good, so now, I need you to tell me what really went through your mind the moment you decided to call Lakw your father," Her voice was soft, and her fingers were gently massaging his smaller hands.

Mikhail furrowed his brows, "I like him, and, I know you haven’t said anything about him, but I feel like he’s really my daddy, you know? You call it intuition. And I really love him, almost the same way I love you. I trust him, the same way I trust you. I’m so comfortable around him, he gives me the same feeling my classmates describe when they talk about their father. Do you understand, Moma?" He held Audrey’s face with his hands.

Audrey smiled; she felt so warm hearing the way Mikhail described how he felt for Lake. "I understand, Baby. Can you keep a secret?" She whispered.

Mikhail nodded, growing curious, "Yes," He whispered back.

Audrey chuckled, "Okay, promise you’re never telling anyone anything, okay?" She raised a brow at him.

He nodded again, "I promise, Moma, tell me already," He shook her by her shoulder.

Audrey laughed, "Okay, your intuition was right, Lake us your father, your real father, but-"

"I knew it! Lake is my -"

"Shh! Shh..." She pushed him down on the bed and covered his mouth with her hand, putting her finger on her lips.

"Shh, you promised to be quiet, he doesn’t remember yet, okay? I’m still trying to help him remember us, do you want him to remember us?" She whispered.

Mikhail nodded, "Of course, Moma," He said.

"Then you will never mention it to him, that is the secret, just love him the way you do, alright? He’ll eventually remember, I promise," She kissed his cheek and rolled him over so she could lift the sheet and tuck him in.

"I understand, Moma. I’ll love him the way I do, even more. But, if Melody’s baby is born, will I still be the young Alpha?" He yawned, rubbing his eyes.

Audrey smiled, "She’s just a crazy old lady. There’s no baby, she was just being silly, yeah?" She chuckled.

Mikhail smiled sleepily, "Yeah, just silly. Good night, Moma," He yawned again.

"Aww, good night, baby," She kissed his cheeks one last time and turned off his lights before walking out of his room.

She sighed quietly the moment she left his room. She had always known that Mikhail would feel that connection toward Lake; it was easier and better for her now that she had told him the truth; she trusted him not to speak to Lake about it. And, about Melody, she had to handle it quickly, she couldn’t have her son doubting himself because of a delusional woman.

She took a deep breath and paused when Lake’s scent entered her nostrils, he was home, in his room.

Audrey frowned, recalling how Melody’s arms had been wrapped around his and he didn’t even bother to step away or push her away. She noiselessly walked toward her room, gently twisting the know.

The moment she opened it to step inside, Lake’s door opened behind her, causing her to freeze in her steps.

"Audrey," Lake called softly.

"Yes," She replied, not facing him.

Lake sighed, "Can we talk?" He asked.

Audrey would have put up resistance, but she sensed the tiredness in his voice and decided to lessen his stress.

She turned and faced him, holding her arms, "I’m listening, Alpha," her tone was haughty.

Lake stared at her face, "Inside my room, please," He spoke softly.

Audrey frowned, "Goodnight," She rolled her eyes and turned to enter her room but Lake caught her arm.

"Please, I won’t take much of your time," he pleaded.

Audrey inhaled sharply, "Let me go, I’ll follow," She said calmly.

She wanted his hand off her skin because those tingles were starting to mess with her; the night was cool and quiet, and the weather was very perfect for two horny wolves to tempt themselves, so she needed to put distance between them until he figured out how to have him without killing him.

Lake nodded and released her arm.

Audrey slid past him and walked into his room, her soul melting with the familiar scent and scenes. Her eyes went to the balcony door where they had once had a little chat, back when he hadn’t even realized that she was the girl he had sent away half-dead.

She slightly shivered when she heard the door shut behind her. She remained standing at the center of the room as she felt Lake approach her back.

He walked past her and went over to his bed, "Please, come sit down," already patted the space beside him on the bed.

Audrey was about to move when she saw something beside his feet; she went over and lowered herself beside his leg to pick the paper up.

As she picked it up, her heart wrenched when she saw what was written on the paper, it was the farewell note she had written him before leaving. She was holding herself back from crying. She slowly stood and looked at his face. "Can I read?" She asked.

Lake didn’t realize what Audrey was holding, but when he did, he snatched the paper from her and placed it back in the pocket from which it had fallen.

"You can’t read it." He stared at her expressionless face.

Audrey nodded. "Is it from someone you loved?" She asked quietly.

Lake furrowed his brows and took out the letter from his pocket again. "I really do not know; each time I read the letter, I feel like I loved the person very much, like she was my life. That brings me to wonder so many things about you, Audrey." He stood and held her hand.

"What are you talking about? What do I have to do with your mysterious letter?" She tilted her head to the side and gazed into his grey eyes. Her heart was racing within her chest; ’What if he remembers?’ She thought quietly.

Lake didn’t take his eyes off of her. He stepped closer to her and asked in a very soft tone, "Are you the one who wrote the letter, Audrey? I felt so heartbroken the moment I woke up and found this letter under my pillow. From that moment, I felt a strong longing for the person who wrote the letter. I always knew that this person would mean the world to me. I wanted no one else but the writer; however, the moment I set my eyes on you, that longing was shifted, Audrey, and do you know what?" His hand found her waist, his face leaning close to hers.

Audrey gulped. ’Here comes the seduction part,’

"What, Lake?" She asked in a whisper.

Lake smiled, "I don’t feel one bit guilty for longing for someone else because I believe that you and that writer are the same. Please tell me I’m not delusional. Tell me I’m not making things up in my head; tell me you’re the one I’ve been searching for all these years. I promise to love you, Audrey, I promise to make up for the years we’ve spent apart. I know I might have lost our memories, but what I feel for you can’t be wrong. I love you, Audrey. Please let me in your heart, I’m tired of playing games. I want you to be mine. Be my mate; be my Luna. Please."

Audrey felt powerless; having the man you wanted more than anything stand in front of you and beg you to love him was a temptation she couldn’t resist, but she feared, she feared that her simple ’Yes’ would ruin him. She wasn’t going to take a step forward until she had spoken to her statue. Regardless of what it had to say, she wasn’t going to give up on Lake. Never.

"Say something, kitten." Lake’s hot breath fanned her face, his lips were just inches away from hers.

Audrey sighed, "I can try and be that person for you, Lake, but there are rules," She smiles up at him.

Lake smiles. "I’m down, Moma, as long as it keeps you beside me," He whispered.
