Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 201: Guarding Against her
Every winter, these tribe members would go on a hunger strike, as in the eyes of others and in fact themselves as well, they were nothing but trash, and they had no desire to snatch the little food from the mouths of the young cubs; after all, they were the future of this tribe. Ruan Chanchan looked at the many scar-faced women in front of her and sighed. She felt sorry for them and couldn’t help but feel that the tribe was way too harsh on them. They were the heroes of the tribe who got injured and went down protecting the tribe; they were never supposed to be treated so harshly. If anything, they deserved all the respect.
Especially more than the elders who only knew how to intervene and interfere in this and that and had no idea what they were even doing. All they knew was to get involved in petty matters that didn’t even need their involvement.
"Ruan Chanchan, is this mushroom something that we can eat?" An old woman who lost one of her legs stepped forward and looked at Ruan Chanchan shyly. She smiled at Ruan Chanchan and said, "I found these mushrooms near the shore of the river that is a bit away from the tribe."
"Aunt Fu, let me take a look." Ruan Chanchan said with a smile. She took the mushroom from the woman and started to look at it carefully.
Aunt Fu heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that Ruan Chanchan was willing to take a look at the mushrooms that she had collected. She was really grateful to Ruan Chanchan. Ruan Chanchan had found several edible things that could be eaten, and the chief taught them how to collect the mushrooms. They could no longer hunt, and they needed to rely on someone else to fend for them. Half of them were still in their twenties, and some were just teens who ran into strong beasts and ended up almost losing their lives. There were nearly 80 tribe members who had almost lost their lives in the hands of the beasts.
With Ruan Chanchan’s help, they didn’t need to worry about anything. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Ruan Chanchan looked at the eighty or so orcs who were waiting for her to look at their mushrooms and sighed.
It seemed like she needed to visit the trade market as soon as possible, or else she would end up overworking herself to death once again. Ruan Chanchan wanted to go to the mountains and see if there was something more she could do for the tribe, but she couldn’t bother Xie Daiyu every time she wanted to go to the mountains. Xie Daiyu was the leader and the hero of the tribe; she could not bother Xie Daiyu for such trivial matters. Also, as long as she didn’t go deep in the mountains, everything should be fine.
She wouldn’t run into any dangerous beasts while she was roaming at the bottom of the mountains.
While Ruan Chanchan was thinking about how to help the tribe members even further, the notifications from the system continued to ding religiously. The goodwill points were getting higher and higher with each tribe member who thanked her.
It took Ruan Chanchan more than three hours to teach the properties of the mushrooms that they had collected. One of the overenthusiastic tribe members brought what one would call a highly toxic mushroom. The only good thing was that the mer didn’t eat the mushrooms after seeing what happened to Yuan Ni. It seemed like that mer’s stupidity finally came in handy.
Yuan Ni, if he could hear what good things Ruan Chanchan was thinking about him: "..."
Ruan Chanchan waited until she was done processing all the mushrooms and then headed straight to the cave where Chief Xie was supervising the processing team’s work. When she arrived, Chief Xie had her back to her and was talking to the members of the team. "No, that’s not it—"
"Chief Xie?" Ruan Chanchan tentatively called the woman in front of her.
When Chief Xie heard Ruan Chanchan’s voice, she turned around and beamed at her. "Chanchan! You are here? Come here and see if the jerky that we have processed is done well or not."
When Ruan Chanchan heard her request, she swallowed back the words that she originally wanted to say. She nodded and smiled. "Sure."
Chief Xie ushered one of the orphans to quickly hand over a piece of jerky to Ruan Chanchan and then turned to look at Ruan Chanchan with an expectant look on her face as if waiting for her to test it that very second. Under that expectant gaze, even an immortal from the heavens would have agreed to commit a sin. It was that intense.
And Ruan Chanchan was no immortal. She was a normal human being, alright? How was she supposed to avoid that gaze?
She melted.
No, it was better to say that she folded.
Ruan Chanchan took the piece of bacon from the young mer and smelled it carefully. There was no bad smell, and there was no mould on the meat either. She took a bite and nodded as the meat tasted good. It seemed like the method that she taught them was feasible.
"It seems like you worked hard. This is done very well." Ruan Chanchan nodded before saying to the elderly woman . "This is well done aunt. You did a really good job, just remember to dry the meat in the sun in the afternoon."
The aunt beamed upon hearing her response. She turned to look at the chief and waited for her to response. Neither of them knew that preserving meat could be this simple. The meat that the prepared had not gone bad at all. The taste was good as well even though more than two days had passed. With this technique passed down in their tribe, they would have a way out.
Chief Xie was just as excited as she knew the importance of the dried meat. From now on she was going to send totem warriors to collect and hunt more meat. Now that the meat wont go bad, they don’t have to worry about going to hunt every day.
As for salt she would think of a way to deal with it.
"Thanks to you our tribe finally has a chance to survive the harsh winter," said Chief Xie as she reached out and held Ruan Chanchan’s hands in her own. "I just took a look at the moon nuts that you have brought for the tribe and I have to say that you are truly lucky for our tribe. We are blessed to have you."
Chief Xie now regarded Ruan Chanchan as one of the most outstanding child of the tribe and wouldn’t listen to a single bad word about her. If someone dared to say anything against Ruan Chanchan then she would be the first one to fight with them.
Ruan Chanchan simply smiled
La single bad word about her then she would be the first one to fight for Ruan Chanchan. The poor girl had gone through a lot becuse of the selfishness of the tribe members and yet she never once did anything like hiding such precious information from them.
In chief Xie’s eyes, Ruan Chanchan was no less than a messiah.
Inside the cave, things had started to pile. From the bamboo shoots to mushrooms everything was piled up in the corner. However there was not much salt in the tribe and there were only a few barrels left in the tribe. There wasn’t much left and they still had a bunch of orcs to feed.
There was a lot of salt thanks to Ruan Chanchan but it was still lot less compared to what the entire tribe needed.
Of course, Ruan Chanchan could fill these barrels with a flick of her hands but she wasn’t going to let those elders ride on her coattails.
She turned and looked at the huge hole in the ground and arched a brow. She thought that these people were primitive but it seemed like she underestimated the lot of them.
"We were thinking of a way to store the meat for the winter. Though through process you taught us is really good, we still wanted to keep an additional layer of security."
What Chief Xie didn’t tell Ruan Chanchan was that the elders were the ones who wanted the preserved meat to be kept and stored away from the tribe especially from Ruan Chanchan even though she was the one who taught them how to preserve meat. There was no particular reason for their denial. They just wanted to make things difficult for Ruan Chanchan.
Of course Ruan Chanchan knew this as well but she did not point it out at all. Instead she simply nodded and said to Chief Xie, "If you want a better option than why don’t you look for a cave with a pool on the inside. If there is a cave with ice water collected inside of it, then I think it will help preserve these things better."
