Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 108 - Determined to head north
Ashen-grey snow drifted down slowly.
It was the cremated remains left behind after the Ice Nest Worms were burned.
The Nightmare Star was so close to breaking free, but fate had other plans. More Ice Nest Worms arrived, freezing everything in place!
As if nothing had ever happened, the Nightmare Star was once again trapped in the glacier, just from a different angle.
Five minutes later, the swarm of worms was completely incinerated.
Yang Yi and Suna returned to the deck, while the skeletal arm cleared away the sparse ashes left behind.
“Do you think the Twilight Veil can avoid the Ice Nest Worms?” Yang Yi asked.
“I don’t think so.
I checked — Ice Nest Worms don’t have visual sensors. They seem to be drawn by signals, probably because too many of them have died here.
To them, this place is like an inextinguishable volcano.
As for how they detect high-temperature objects…that’s still a mystery.” Suna replied.
Hearing this, Yang Yi frowned deeply.
This meant the Ice Nest Worms would keep harassing the Nightmare Star in cycles.
Escaping the glacier was nearly impossible!
Even if the surrounding ice melted, blasting a path through the glacier with cannons would take at least several days.
And in that time, the Ice Nest Worms would freeze everything over again!
That left only two choices.
The first was to wait until all the Ice Nest Worms were completely burned away and bet that they weren’t infinite in number — hoping that only a few remained.
If they waited a few more days and no more appeared, then escape would be unimpeded.
And as for the second option…
Yang Yi’s eyes narrowed. Without hesitation, he chose the second one.
He disliked being passive, he preferred to take control of his own fate!
“I’m planning to check out the northeastern direction,” he told Suna.
“Alright, I’ll go too.”
Suna responded quickly, as if she had already anticipated this decision.
Yang Yi hesitated for a few seconds but didn’t refuse.
To him, Suna was merely trying to survive. He had no reason to force her to pin all her hopes on him alone.
If his plan failed, she would most likely die.
So, it was reasonable for her to want to be involved. He had no grounds to object.
But whether that was truly Suna’s intention was unclear. She certainly looked excited, though.
Thus, the plan was set — both of them would head northeast to eliminate the Ice Nest Worm threat at its source.
Meanwhile, the skeletal arm wouldn’t stop working, digging continuously for 24 hours to make their eventual escape easier.
With the arrangements in place, the clanging sounds of work started up again.
Even Suna’s stitched-together abomination joined in, using its tentacles to haul stone and dig…
Yang Yi and Suna, on the other hand, began preparing supplies for the journey — some needed to be purchased, like tents and sleeping bags, while others had to be crafted, like incendiary grenades.
…
At the same time, in another location within the Extreme Winter Sea…
Here lay the fleet of the New World Ship Clan.
Nearly three hundred ships were interconnected, forming a floating village on the ocean.
Each vessel was linked together with riveted wooden planks, and if their numbers were to double, they might well become a full-fledged floating city!
Moreover, the layout of the ships was highly organised, divided into various zones — the agricultural sector led by the Farmer, the residential area, the port, the administrative district, and more.
This was the early prototype of Shen Guanquan’s maritime empire!
At that moment, in the heart of the administrative district, aboard the Hope…
Zhao Tietou ignored the guards on duty and walked straight into the captain’s cabin.
“Boss, you called for me?” Zhao Tietou asked in a deep voice.
Shen Guanquan didn’t look up, his eyes fixed on the newspaper in his hands. After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“What do you think One-Eye did to deal with the Ice Nest Worms?”
“Reporting to the boss — I have no idea!” Zhao Tietou answered honestly.
Shen Guanquan put down the newspaper and changed the subject.
“What about that newly discovered clan? Are they willing to merge with us?”
“They refused.”
“Did they give a reason? Was it because the offer wasn’t high enough, or did they have special demands?”
“Neither.
He just said something really strange, then blocked me.”
“What did he say?”
“He said: We’ve already eaten enough.” Shen Guanquan frowned deeply, his brows forming a tight crease.
“Then forget it. A forcibly picked melon won’t be sweet.
Try looking for One-Eye instead — find out who he is and see if we can recruit him. Any terms are negotiable!” Shen Guanquan instructed.
“Boss…I don’t think it’ll work,” Zhao Tietou voiced his honest thoughts.
“Why not?”
“I’ve noticed that all these powerful guys…they all have something wrong up here.”
Zhao Tietou tapped his temple.
The implication was clear — most of them were either mentally unstable or outright insane.
“Still, give it a try!
We have plenty of people, but we’re short on fighters — especially elite ones.”
With that, Shen Guanquan waved Zhao Tietou off and immersed himself back in his work.
But Zhao Tietou didn’t leave right away. Instead, he stared at the towering piles of documents in the captain’s cabin and at Shen Guanquan, who was buried among them. The sight unsettled him.
In truth, when he talked about mentally unstable players, he was also referring to Shen Guanquan.
His transformation was too drastic — it was as if he had completely embodied the role of a “leader”, so much so that he might have forgotten who he really was.
After all, Shen Guanquan had started out as a bandit…
…
The next day, aboard he Nightmare Star.
Yang Yi and Suna were making their final preparations for the journey.

Suna had already taken The Book of Scorching Flames, saying she wanted to read it.
She had even dragged a large wooden bathtub into her room, seemingly intending to follow Yang Yi’s advice — boil some hot water and read while soaking in the tub.
Meanwhile, Yang Yi browsed the world chat channel, purchasing essential supplies like sleeping bags and tents.
He bought three sleeping bags for a total of 2,800 Shell Coins.
Originally priced at 1,000 Shell Coins each, he managed to haggle a discount.
【Name: Cold-Resistant Cotton Sleeping Bag】
【Type: Treasure】【Quality: Fine】【Description: A sleeping bag commonly used for cold-weather outdoor travel, providing good insulation.】
As for the tent, it cost 2,000 Shell Coins. Since there wasn’t high demand for it, the price was relatively low.
【Name: Field Tent】
【Type: Treasure】【Quality: Premium】【Description: A foldable tent designed for wilderness survival, sturdy and wind-resistant, easy to set up, with a built-in moisture-proof mat and decent insulation 】
Even though the journey wasn’t expected to be too far, temporary rest stops were a possibility, making the tent and sleeping bags essential.
On the other side, Suna had already heated the water and tested the temperature with her toes. It was a bit too hot, so she added some cold water until it felt just right.
After finishing her preparations, Suna undressed and eagerly slipped into the bathtub, then opened The Book of Scorching Flames (Vol. 1) in her hands.
Like Yang Yi before her, once she started reading, she couldn’t look away.
However, unlike him, each page she finished instantly burned to ash.
At the same time, waves of intense heat radiated from the book.
But thanks to her being submerged in water, she wasn’t burned — only her skin turned slightly red.
Finally, as she flipped the last page, the entire book was consumed by flames and vanished before her eyes.
