Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 120: Slap
"Ahhh!" Brenda clutched her face in disbelief as a stinging pain spread across her face.
Billy stared at his daughter with deep disappointment, shaking his head slowly.
"Not once," he said coldly, "not once have I imagined that I would have such a foolish descendant."
Brenda’s eyes widened in disbelief. For a moment, she wondered if she had misheard him.
’Did he... really slap me? My own father? The same father who claimed he loved me and wanted to make up for everything he didn’t give me earlier?’
Before she could fully gather herself, her mother’s voice cut through the silence like ice.
"A foolish descendant must be punished properly," Alice said, her tone devoid of warmth. "Otherwise, she will not understand her mistakes going forward."
Brenda stared at Alice, her heart twisting in hurt.
"Mom... are you truly blaming me? This wasn’t even my mistake. It was Lana who schemed everything! I... I just fell into her trap because I’m inexperienced. How is that my fault?"
Alice’s gaze remained cold, almost disgusted.
"I had assumed that, as a Dream Warden, you would have at least a bit of intelligence. Unlike that unruly girl who was hard to tame. But it seems we threw away the smart one and kept the foolish one."
Brenda’s face burned with shame.
On the other side, Garrison frowned deeply. He looked between his parents with clear disapproval. "It wasn’t Brenda’s fault," he said firmly.
He walked toward her, placing himself protectively in front of her as he looked directly at Billy and Alice.
"Instead of crying over a small loss, you should think about how to take revenge."
Billy’s eyes narrowed. "Do you think I don’t want to?" he snapped. "But that girl, Lana, vanished into thin air. It has become impossible to find her."
Garrison’s eyes flashed with a strange glint.
Leonard, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke.
"According to my sources, it seems Lana is protected by some kind of big shot. That’s why finding her has become impossible."
Billy’s expression sharpened.
"A big shot? How powerful? More powerful than the Almond family?" He leaned forward slightly. "Is this big shot... fond of Lana?"
A calculating gleam flickered in his eyes.
Brenda, who had been silent, suddenly murmured,
"When I last saw her... she was dropped off by a car that belongs to only a handful of people. Very powerful figures in this city."
Alice’s lips pursed. Her fingers tapped lightly on the back of her other hand.
"If that’s the case, then Lana should at least pay back what we spent, and compensate us emotionally."
Leonardo shook his head. "Impossible. We already included emotional damage in the thirty million dollars we demanded from her."
Alice paused.
Billy’s expression suddenly softened. He stepped closer to Brenda and stared at her with pity.
"Brenda has suffered so much. Especially in her childhood..." His voice trembled with false sorrow. "We should at least get justice for her. That girl should pay."
This time, the coldness in his eyes faded, replaced by a carefully crafted remorse. He reached for Brenda’s hand. "I was blinded by rage earlier. I’m sorry for my behavior."
Brenda’s breath hitched. The change in his tone, his expression, everything softened something inside her.
’He... he really cares?’
A wave of grievance suddenly overwhelmed her, and she threw her arms around him.
"Daddy... if you ever hit me again, I’ll run away from this family," she sobbed.
Panic flashed across Billy’s face instantly. "Brenda, no! You mustn’t!"
Alice exchanged a glance with him, then approached with a sigh.
She placed a gentle hand on Brenda’s shoulder.
"I know my words may have hurt you," she said softly. "I apologize. As a sincere apology, I’m willing to spend an entire day with you."
Brenda’s tears stopped instantly. "R-Really?"
Alice nodded, smiling warmly.
Billy let out a relieved sigh and patted Brenda’s back. "You have suffered so much. How can we allow Lana to throw you around like that?"
Brenda’s smile faltered. She hesitated before whispering, "Even though Lana was wrong... the bigger mistake lies with her parents."
Billy’s eyes brightened.
"Exactly! It is her real parents who are at fault. So we should confront them first. And if they refuse to pay up, we’ll go directly to Lana."
Brenda blinked, a small frown forming. Something feels off... but what?
She couldn’t quite grasp it. She simply looked up at her father helplessly.
Billy’s face darkened. "I’m doing this because my heart aches for how much you’ve suffered."
Brenda’s heart warmed immediately. Tears brimmed at the corners of her eyes.
"I don’t need justice... as long as my parents and brothers stay with me. That’s all I want."
Hearing this, Garrison, Leonardo, Leonard, and Aston’s expressions softened noticeably.
But Billy and Alice’s expressions turned ice-cold.
Billy shook his head instantly. "We can’t allow this. If we don’t act, others will think it’s acceptable to bully you."
Before Brenda could protest, Alice stepped forward and squeezed her hand.
"If we don’t take action now, people will assume you’re easy to bully. By setting an example, we’re preventing future trouble."
Brenda subconsciously turned to Garrison, who nodded. "They’re right. Whatever attitude they show toward you is how the upper class will treat you."
Her heart surged with warmth.
’My parents really do love me...’
The darkness in her heart began to fade. She nodded with a bright smile.
Billy and Alice exchanged a victorious look.
Meanwhile, Leonardo and Aston frowned in silence. They saw through everything. But they held their tongues.
Feeling pity, Garrison stepped forward.
"Brenda, you must be tired. Go rest. Tomorrow’s a university holiday, so we can take you to the shopping complex." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Brenda’s face lit up. "Really?! I’d love that!"
Leonardo and Aston chimed in immediately. "We’ll take you to the amusement park, too. And somewhere exciting after!"
Brenda beamed, her happiness overflowing as she rushed to hug her three brothers.
"You guys are the best brothers I could ever ask for!"
Her eyes sparkled.
’That woman was right... They really do care. When I first arrived, they barely looked at me, but now... now they’re so warm. Letting her help me was the best decision I ever made.’
