Chapter 336: Chapter 275: He’s Not Worth Her Thoughts

Hephis had been resting quietly in Duotu’s arms. Suddenly, he looked up in a certain direction, tears instantly filling his beast eyes. Unable to contain his excitement, he cried out, "Mother..."

The boy had always had a quiet personality. Even Duotu had rarely seen him lose control like this. But when he finally made out the figure gracefully approaching, his whole body went rigid. His breathing was shaky, and he was even more overcome than his son.

The little lion cub didn’t notice his father’s reaction. The moment his father’s arms slackened, he jumped from his embrace and landed on the ground. He stared fixedly at Sang Luo, who was smiling as she knelt, as if trying to discern whether this was a dream or reality.

He had always thought the mother he saw was just a figment of his dreams. He never imagined she was actually alive.

He should have rushed into his mother’s embrace, but he hesitated, not daring to step forward.

King Beast cubs mature slowly. Though Hephis still looked very young, he was almost seven years old and understood certain things—he was worried his mother wouldn’t like him.

Seeing the little lion cub in this state made Sang Luo’s heart ache. The small figurine she had casually carved all those years ago had been treasured by him for so long. She knew then how desperately he craved a mother’s love, how much he longed to see her.

"Luoluo..." Duotu stared at her in a daze, his eyes slowly reddening. He didn’t dare take a single step forward.

Sang Luo didn’t look at him, instead opening her arms to the little lion cub. "My sweet boy, come to Mommy."

The little lion cub immediately threw himself into her arms, nuzzling against her and choking back sobs. "Mommy, I missed you so much. This is really you this time, right?"

"Yes, it’s real. It couldn’t possibly be more real. Mommy will stay by your side from now on." Sang Luo planted a kiss on his fluffy cheek.

Watching the mother and son interact, Duotu’s breathing slowly eased. He didn’t dare go forward and disturb them.

Sang Luo stood up while holding her son. "The Holy Hall has plenty of fun places. How about Mommy takes you to go play?"

"Okay!" he chirped in his clear, childish voice. In an instant, his father was completely forgotten.

"I’m going to take him out to play for a bit," Sang Luo said to Minos. "You two can talk."

Minos nodded. "Go on, but don’t come back too late."

Duotu didn’t say a word. His gaze was fixed on her face, unwilling to look away for even a second.

Sang Luo paid him no mind, simply turning and leaving with the child in her arms.

Duotu’s heart clenched. He started to chase after them, then forced himself to a halt, feeling utterly lost. "Does... does she want to take him back?"

"If she wanted to take him, she would have done so long ago." Minos looked at the distraught Duotu and invited him into the hall. "His Majesty Yalan, please come in for some tea while you wait."

Duotu looked at the elegant and gentle young man before him, realizing this was the legendary Saint Heir who would soon ascend to the position of Holy Monarch. He forced a smile. "You are too kind, Holy Monarch. It was I who was discourteous last time."

"It is of no concern," Minos said with a light chuckle. "Speaking of which, you and I share a blood connection. I suppose I should call you cousin."

"...I am not worthy of the honor."

Duotu was not of the Angel Clan. He was well aware that the proud Pure-blood Angels looked down on beings like him. He felt utterly unworthy of being on such familiar terms with the Saint Heir.

Minos said nothing more.

The two entered the hall and spoke for a time. Minos then handed Duotu a book—a parenting guide he had personally compiled over the last few days. It detailed the key points of raising an Angel Clan cub and listed various Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures beneficial for their growth. Most of the ingredients could be found in both the Holy Domain and the Beast World Continent, which would make it easier for Duotu to raise his child.

Duotu accepted it with great solemnity. "Thank you, Holy Monarch."

"It was no trouble," Minos said. "I was simply preparing for my own future children as well."

Duotu was speechless, a bitter feeling rising in his heart. ’I’ve missed so much,’ he thought. ’Far, far too much...’

Minos continued to speak with him, but Duotu was often distracted, his gaze frequently darting to the entrance, worried Sang Luo would leave with their child and never return. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Fortunately, his anxiety didn’t last long. A little over an hour later, Sang Luo returned, carrying their son.

The little lion cub had clearly had fun outside. He was covered in dirt and had even accidentally flown into a tree. Sang Luo had given him a bath, which took some time. His fur, now freshly dried, was soft and fluffy, glinting beautifully in the sunlight.

Sang Luo set the little cub on the ground, telling him to go to his father.

Hephis took a few steps toward the emotional Duotu, but then he ran back to nuzzle against Sang Luo’s leg, looking up at her anxiously. "Mommy, will I get to see you again?"

Sang Luo knelt, stroking his head with a gentle smile. "Go back with your father for now. Have you forgotten what Mommy promised? I’ll come to see you often. We even shook on it, remember?"

Only then did Hephis feel reassured.

Sensing that complex, burning gaze still fixed on her, Sang Luo sighed and stroked the little cub’s head again. "You must be tired from all that playing. And hungry, too. Why don’t you go with Uncle Angel for a bit? He can get you something tasty to eat."

Sang Luo turned to Minos. "Could you take him somewhere else for a bit? I need to stay and have a word with Duotu."

Minos nodded and led the little lion cub away.

In an instant, only the two of them were left in the hall.

They faced each other in silence. The air grew heavy.

"Luoluo, it’s been a long time." After a long moment, Duotu finally broke the silence, his voice deep and raspy. "It’s been seven years."

’He had lost her for nearly seven years.’

"Yes, seven years." Sang Luo regarded Duotu with a cold expression. ’I don’t want anything to do with you. It would be best if we were strangers, but... we have a child. As long as our son is here, we’ll always be connected. There’s no need to cause a scene and vow to never see each other again. Besides, I can’t bear to let our little lion go his whole life without a mother’s love. Our son shouldn’t have to bear the consequences of Duotu’s mistakes.’

Duotu’s eyes were already red, and tears streamed down his face. His voice was low, raspy, and broken. "You’re alive... so why didn’t you come back all these years?"

Sang Luo raised an eyebrow, her tone mocking and blunt. "I have so many other outstanding, powerful Beast Husbands. Why would I ever think of you? Frankly, if it weren’t for Hephis, I would’ve forgotten you even existed."

’Quan Jin may have escaped death and barely survived, but his original body was destroyed. Now he’s just clinging to life in a demonic form. And my eldest daughter... I still don’t know if she’s alive or dead. Duotu caused all of this. I will never feel any pity or affection for him.’

"Yes... I know I’m not worthy of your thoughts. I’m just happy that you’re even willing to see me now..."

Another heavy silence fell between them, as if neither knew what to say.

Duotu took a deep breath and stepped toward her. He reached out a hand, his fingers trembling. "Luoluo, I’m not asking you to forgive me. But our son is innocent. He needs a childhood with both a mother’s and a father’s love. Could you... please give me another chance? Let me raise him with you."

"We can forget everything that happened. We can try to start over, okay? I’ll make up for all the mistakes I made..."
