Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 337 - 276: Disaster Beast
Sang Luo swatted his hand away and frowned. "I will raise the child, but there’s no need for us to get back together."
"No need... Why is there no need..." He trembled uncontrollably, a hint of madness creeping into his eyes.
"It’s not a question of whether I forgive you or not, or whether I hate you or not. It’s..." Sang Luo paused, looking directly into Duotu’s grief-stricken eyes, and slowly enunciated, "I have no feelings for you anymore."
Duotu couldn’t get another word out. His body was as stiff as a stone. He stared at her blankly, as if he couldn’t comprehend what she had just said.
Sang Luo sighed. "So many years have passed. I stopped hating you long ago. To me, you are just a specific person from my past—Hephis’s biological father. I agreed to raise the child with you and am willing to give him a complete home. I don’t want him to repeat your mistakes... But I have no love for you anymore, nor any hate. Not a shred of affection remains. There’s no need for us to try and mend what’s broken."
Duotu had always thought that her avoidance of him for all these years was because she still hated him. He never imagined that her indifference would be what truly pierced his heart like a thousand needles.
It was far worse than her hating him.
It made his heart die completely.
Duotu left with the child.
And he never appeared before her again.
Sang Luo thought that was the end of that Chapter.
One month later, Hephis came to the Holy Hall alone, with no one accompanying him.
’A King Beast cub would attract countless covetous eyes. How could Duotu let the child come here by himself? That’s so irresponsible! Could I have been wrong about him?’
"Where’s your father? Why didn’t he come with you?" Sang Luo’s voice was tinged with anger.
But Hephis burst into tears with a loud "WAAAH!"
"Mother, SOB... Father is hurt! He’s bleeding a lot and he’s going to die! Mother, please go see him."
Sang Luo’s heart jolted. She quickly hugged the sobbing little lion and used a towel to wipe his small, furry face, which was matted with tears. "What on earth happened? How did your father get hurt?"
"He went out to find Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures for me. When he came back last night, he was covered in blood. He’s still unconscious. The witch doctor said... Mother, please go save him."
’Duotu is a King Beast Peak, after all. He’s considered a top-tier powerhouse on the Western Continent. Who could have injured him so badly?’
Sang Luo hesitated. She considered extracting Hephis’s memories to find out exactly what happened last night, but she worried that he was too young. Forcibly extracting memories with spiritual power might damage his Divine Sense.
"He encountered a Disaster Beast."
Minos approached, holding an Ancient Book.
The book was very thick, with a dark brown, carved wooden cover etched with arcane patterns. It emanated a faint, holy radiance, hovering above the palms of his hands as its pages turned without any wind.
"What’s a Disaster Beast?" Sang Luo asked, surprised.
Minos explained, "Recently, the Rule Power of calamity on the Beast World Continent has been rising, giving birth to many sources of disaster. These sources mostly parasitize Star Beasts, which are collectively known as Disaster Beasts. Powerful Disaster Beasts can trigger changes in the heavens and earth—earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes... causing considerable devastation."
"If it’s so serious, isn’t the Holy Hall going to do anything?"
Minos looked down at the Ancient Book in his hands, turning to a specific page. In his right hand, he held a slender, golden quill. Without dipping it in ink, he used his Spiritual Power to write carefully. "Luoluo, the Holy Hall is merely a chronicler of time, a prophet that gives warnings to the people. Unless it is a matter of last resort, the Holy Hall will not intervene."
His voice was low and calm. "With every turn of an epoch, the powers of heaven and earth experience different chaotic phenomena. The greater the impact of these fluctuations, the higher the chance of Disaster Beasts appearing. Once the powers of heaven and earth stabilize again, the Disaster Beasts will retreat, and a period of peace and vitality lasting tens of thousands of years will return... The last outbreak of Disaster Beasts was thirty thousand years ago. The Book of Space-Time has already recorded one thousand and twenty-seven such outbreaks."
After he finished writing, Minos closed the Book of Space-Time, and it vanished from his palm.
Sang Luo’s expression turned grim.
’Never mind these Disaster Beasts she had never seen before; just the earthquakes and tsunamis would kill many people with each occurrence. But seeing Minos’s calm expression, she knew that to him, such things were trivial. To re-stabilize the order of heaven and earth, the cost in human lives was just a commonplace affair. Unless a great crisis threatened the extinction of the Beastman race, it wouldn’t be enough to attract the Holy Hall’s attention.’
"Forget it. I’ll go take a look," Sang Luo said, stroking the little lion’s head. "My Healing System skills are much more effective than those witch doctors."
"Mm," Minos said nothing more.
Sang Luo asked him to help look after the little lion, then went to the Western Continent alone.
「The Beast Kingdom of the Yalan Empire.」
Sang Luo saw Duotu for the first time in a long while.
The witch doctors in the palace had already cleaned his wounds, but it was easy to see how severe they were. He looked half-dead.
’Are the Disaster Beasts really that strong?’
’I wonder what the situation is like on the other continents and in the seas?’
’They’ve probably been affected too, but with Fei Yuan and the others holding down the fort, nothing major should happen.’
After Sang Luo finished healing Duotu, he remained asleep, not waking up.
Sang Luo pulled up a chair and sat by the bed. She recalled the fragmented and somewhat maddening memories she had seen in Anano’s mind. Glancing at the unconscious Duotu on the bed, she grew curious about the missing parts of those memories.
A wisp of faint purple spiritual power extended from between her brows and entered his sea of consciousness.
’The Holy Hall allowing Duotu to return wasn’t necessarily just for the sake of his heir.’
’Egarli is dead, but Anano’s affliction of the heart remains. This means he wasn’t the cause of her suffering.’
’It’s highly likely it was her only son, Duotu.’
...
Arguing again.
Endless arguing, the startling sound of things being smashed.
Sang Luo saw the little lion again.
He was hiding outside the door, not daring to go in.
After the argument inside the hall ended, the man stormed out in a rage.
The little lion waited for him to leave, then ran into the hall with a few flowers he had picked from outside held in his mouth.
He looked at Anano, who was covering her face and sobbing. He cautiously placed the flowers by her legs, then lay on the floor and gently nuzzled her ankle. "Mother, don’t cry. These are your favorite flowers."
Before, whenever his father and mother finished arguing, or whenever his mother was unhappy, he would go to the garden and pick some of her favorite flowers. Every time she saw them, she would cheer up immensely, pick him up, and stroke his head.
But this time, it seemed different...
When Anano saw him, she froze for two seconds, her expression vacant and lost. The tears on her face had dried, leaving winding tracks.
Suddenly, as if seeing something ugly and terrifying, she kicked him away and roared, "Get out! Get out! Who let you in? Get out with that father of yours!"
The little lion was kicked hard in the stomach, sent flying into a wall. He cried out in pain.
