Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 258 - 202: The Pain of Nirvana
"Didn’t you say sealing the Eye of the Ruins requires sacrificing a King Shark?"
"This Emperor didn’t lie to you. To seal the Eye of the Ruins, one must either sacrifice the bloodline of a King Shark or at least one Innate King Beast with a Divine Bloodline. There are no other ways."
Fei Yuan poured a cup of tea and downed it in one gulp. He then rose and walked down the steps. "King Sharks do not possess a Divine Bloodline, but they are special Innate King Beasts destined to be Guardians. Sacrificing a single King Shark can seal the Eye of the Ruins for several hundred years. This life of mine can, at most, only seal it for several decades."
"You used your Nirvana Rebirth Talent Ability?!" Sang Luo exclaimed, snapping back to her senses in astonishment.
"That’s right, Little Luoruo. I lost a life for you and your pampered husband. Now what am I to do?"
He said with a grin, "You’ll have to take responsibility for the rest of my life."
"Don’t listen to his nonsense," Si Ye said as he walked over. "He can use Nirvana once every hundred years and has five chances for Nirvana Rebirth in total. He’d used it twice before, and this was the third time. He still has two lives left."
Fei Yuan glared at him. "What are you doing snooping around my Phoenix Palace?"
"I ran out of formula at my place, so I came to raid your stash for the baby." Fei Yuan didn’t have a single child to be seen, yet he had everything a baby could need—clothes, toys, and formula—all perfectly prepared.
Si Ye casually opened a cabinet to reveal it was completely filled with formula. He grabbed two cans and walked over to Sang Luo, teasing, "The reason he didn’t show his face for the past few days is probably because his Nirvana turned him into a bald chicken. He only dared to come out after his feathers grew back—"
Fei Yuan casually flicked a spark of flame toward his rear. Si Ye instantly teleported away, his voice echoing behind him, "Luoluo, I brought Zhenzhen back! I’ll come see you after I finish feeding her!"
Sang Luo didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "You and your nephew certainly are close."
"If it weren’t for his Talent Ability to break through barriers, I would’ve used an Array to keep him out of the palace long ago."
Fei Yuan strolled over to her, his voice a velvety, low murmur. "Little Luoruo, do you want to know what I’ve been through for the past half a month?"
Sang Luo’s expression sobered, and she looked up at him.
The smile on Fei Yuan’s face didn’t reach his eyes. Sang Luo’s heart sank. ’Males of the Bird Clan are incredibly vain. His pride as a Beast Emperor would never allow him to grovel before a female, complaining and seeking comfort. But if Fei Yuan really had turned into a bald bird, he’d definitely be terribly upset... No wonder he was gone for half a month. He must have waited until he looked normal again before daring to see anyone.’
"Thank you, Fei Yuan," she said softly, pulling a host of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures from her spatial storage. "These are for you. To help you recover."
Fei Yuan glanced at the items before looking away. "You should keep those little snacks for yourself."
"What does Nirvana feel like?" she asked after a moment of silence.
"...Nirvana is agonizingly painful, no different from death itself. The lingering burns that last for days afterward are torturous. The process of reforming your own flesh and bone... it’s an unbearable feeling."
’For a Beast Emperor like him to admit it was "agonizingly painful," one could only imagine the inhuman torment he must have suffered during his Nirvana for the past half a month. Yet he brushed it all aside so lightly with just a few words.’
Sang Luo looked down and murmured, "No wonder you haven’t been around."
"Little Luoruo, with such an endearing, pitying look on your face... are you feeling sorry for me?" Fei Yuan’s pale, slender fingers lifted a lock of her dark hair, a faint, unreadable smile playing on his lips.
Sang Luo nodded. "My heart aches for you."
Her simple, direct words made Fei Yuan’s expression falter, and a lump formed in his throat.
Then she promised, "I’ll definitely give you a Little Phoenix!"
Fei Yuan snapped back to his senses, a much more genuine smile on his face. "I can’t hear you. A little louder."
"Suit yourself~" She turned to leave.
Fei Yuan pulled her into his embrace. His thin, crimson lips brushed against her ear as he chuckled softly. "One child isn’t enough. You already promised me one. This is for a separate debt. At the very least, you have to let this Emperor experience the joy of having both a son and a daughter, don’t you?"
"We haven’t even had one child, and you’re already dreaming of having both a son and a daughter. You really know how to dream, Your Majesty," Sang Luo shot back.
Fei Yuan only laughed more, stroking her belly. "You’re about to give birth. After this one is born, you can carry a whole nest of Little Phoenixes for this Emperor."
"...W-well, that depends on Your Majesty’s performance," Sang Luo stammered. Her mind uncontrollably flashed back to his skills in bed—techniques that could drive any female wild with passion. A faint blush crept up her cheeks, and she cleared her throat, quickly changing the subject. "How are things in the Void Demon Realm?"
"It’s much the same as before. The seal has been renewed. As long as the Lord of the Demon Realm doesn’t awaken, the seal will hold for the foreseeable future. Most of the Demon Clan is sealed within the Void Demon Realm... The ones who escaped can’t be retrieved. I’ve already joined forces with the other Beast Kings and Beast Emperors to hunt them down. You don’t need to worry about it, Little Luoruo."
"And who is this Lord of the Demon Realm?" Sang Luo asked. It was the first time she had heard of such a figure.
"Even I have never seen the Lord of the Demon Realm’s face. Legend says he’s been slumbering in the Void Demon Realm for ten thousand years, but no one knows for sure if he’s dead or alive. It could just be a rumor the Demon Clan started to boost morale, but the Beast World must prepare for the worst." Fei Yuan’s voice grew heavy. "The Demon Clan wouldn’t dare to stir up trouble relying on just a few Demon Envoys. They must have an ace up their sleeve."
Sang Luo nodded. Just then, a small gray cat darted in through the doorway and leaped nimbly into her arms.
Tied around its neck was a red string with a Little Bell, giving it an elegant and dignified air.
"Mommy~" it called out, its voice clear and bright.
"Zhenzhen, my little treasure!" Sang Luo’s heart swelled with joy. She planted a kiss on the cat’s soft, fluffy gray fur, which carried the warm, sun-baked fragrance of the outdoors.
Si Ye walked over, holding a half-empty bottle. "She was in such a hurry to see you that she didn’t even finish her milk."
"I’ll feed her." Sang Luo took the warm bottle to feed Little Zhenzhen, then turned to Si Ye. "Didn’t the Beast Mother say she wanted to raise Little Zhenzhen in the Bian Clan Land? Why did you bring her back?"
"My mother dotes on children far too much. I couldn’t rest easy with her raising Zhenzhen, so it’s better if I raise her myself."
For once, Si Ye sighed in frustration. "She’s been spoiled rotten. Not long ago, she burned down an Elder’s storehouse, and Si Jing still didn’t have the heart to blame her. She’s completely out of control!"
Little Zhenzhen retorted, "Grandma knew I wasn’t in the wrong! That Elder was secretly hoarding things in his warehouse—things that didn’t belong to him in the first place! That’s why I burned it!"
’This child is a bit impulsive.’
Sang Luo gently stroked her little head. "Zhenzhen, you have an exceptional talent. It’s a good thing that you discovered an Elder was hoarding things. But you could have told your grandma first. That way, you could have taken back what wasn’t his and given it to the people. If you just burn everything, it’s all gone. What a waste."
Zhenzhen thought for a moment. That made sense. "Okay. Next time, I’ll tell Grandma first."
"Such a good girl, Little Zhenzhen." Sang Luo pulled a gray, plush teddy bear from her spatial storage and gave it to her. Pressing different parts of its body made it say different things.
It could also announce the time, say "good morning" and "good night," sing nursery rhymes, and tell stories...
"Mommy’s giving you a little friend. You can hug it when you sleep at night. Remember to take good care of your little bear."
Little Zhenzhen was barely six months old, with the playful mind of a child. When she saw the talking teddy bear, her beast-pupils lit up. She tried to hug it with her paws, only to find the bear was bigger than her and she couldn’t get her arms around it.
Si Ye took the bear and stored it in his spatial storage. "I’ll put it on her bed when we get back to the Marquis Mansion."
"I have a bunch of other little dolls. We could line them all up on Zhenzhen’s bed. She’d definitely love that."
Si Ye took her hand, his smile bright and charming. "Why don’t you come back to the Marquis Mansion and stay with me and our daughter for a few days?"
