Chapter 257: Chapter 201: The Sea Emperor Himself Cooks

Blue Eucalyptus had classes every morning and afternoon, and was let out of school around 5 p.m. after finishing his daily lessons.

When it was time for dinner, Sang Luo went to Chengen Hall right on schedule to pick up her son.

Zai Xin gathered the documents and test papers on the desk and said cheerfully, "The Young Master has been working very hard on his lessons lately. He got a perfect score on today’s test."

Sang Luo pinched Blue Eucalyptus’s fair, tender cheek and ruffled his soft blue hair. "You’re amazing, sweetie!"

"Mommy, I’m hungry~"

Little An held out his arms. With a bit of effort, Sang Luo lifted him into her arms and, smiling, walked out. "What do you want to eat? Mommy will cook for you herself to celebrate our little treasure Blue Eucalyptus getting a perfect score."

"You brought me sweet osmanthus cake once before, Mommy. It was yummy! Little An wants to eat sweet osmanthus cake!" he said in a sweet voice.

"Sweet osmanthus cake, hmm. Let Mommy think... I’ll need glutinous rice flour, rice flour, and fine sugar... I have all of those in my storage space, so it should be simple enough to make. But the glutinous rice and regular rice need to be soaked overnight. How about Mommy makes it for you tomorrow morning? Tonight, I’ll steam a bowl of crab roe egg custard for you. You need to replenish your nutrients. Look, you’ve gotten tired from studying lately; your little face has gotten thinner."

After he was weaned, Little An mostly ate minced fresh beast meat and dried fish. He’d never had steamed egg custard before. He licked his lips. "I want to eat it!"

"Go play with your building blocks for a bit. Mommy will call you when dinner is ready." Sang Luo placed him on the daybed, gave him a new set of blocks to play with, and went to the kitchen.

"You are with child, Queen. Please, let us do it." The servants were terrified to see her, with her pregnant belly, insisting on cooking herself.

"I’m just steaming some egg custard. It’s no trouble. All of you may leave." ’I’ll have to get Lou Xianyue to set up a small family kitchen here in the hall,’ Sang Luo thought.

She took out five sea turtle eggs to make the custard. They were a little smaller than chicken eggs, but it should be enough.

When Lou Xianyue returned from handling official business in his study, he didn’t see Sang Luo. He went to Chengen Hall and learned she had gone to the kitchen to cook. When he arrived, he saw her standing on a small wooden stool, placing a bowl of prepared egg mixture into a steamer and covering it with a lid.

The Sea Clan Beastmen were enormous in their beast forms, and their human forms were exceptionally tall and brawny, often standing over two meters tall. Sang Luo wasn’t short, and she had even grown quite a bit after her Cultivation advanced and reforged her body. But in the domain of the sea, she still seemed small. The stove was a bit high for her, so a small wooden stool was just the right height.

Lou Xianyue’s heart nearly leaped into his throat. He rushed forward, lifted her down, and chided, "This kind of work should be left to the Servants."

"Little An said he wanted to eat crab roe egg custard, and I wanted to make it for him myself. When an outsider makes it, the taste is definitely not the same as when his own mommy makes it!"

"How would the taste be any different? If you don’t tell him, he won’t know." Lou Xianyue smiled helplessly and took over for her. "You rest on the side. I’ll do it."

"Then I’ll be your assistant." Sang Luo knew she wouldn’t be allowed near the stove again, so she didn’t insist.

Lou Xianyue tied up his long hair and took off his outer robe, handing it to Sang Luo. He used a light-blue ribbon as a makeshift armband to tie back his wide sleeves, revealing his long, fair forearms. Spatula in hand, he asked, "Little An is having crab roe egg custard tonight. What do you want to eat?"

Sang Luo placed his moon-white outer robe on a rack. "The servants said they recently caught some very fat, delicious eels for the storehouse. I have several bags of rice in my storage space. I’d like to have eel over rice tonight. It’ll be absolutely delicious... Do you know how to make it?"

’She had never seen him cook a proper meal before; the most he’d ever done was grill some meat.’

"I’ve seen it done."

"..." ’All theory and no practice, is that it?’

Sang Luo eyed him skeptically. Lou Xianyue just smiled and promised, "It will definitely be to your liking. Help me by tearing up some vegetable leaves."

Sang Luo prepared a dish of seaweed salad to go with the eel rice later.

The egg custard was steamed quickly. Lou Xianyue lifted the lid and conjured a current of water, which he used to lift the scalding porcelain bowl and place it on the stove.

The custard was golden yellow, sprinkled with plump, snow-white shrimp and crab meat. The aroma alone made Sang Luo’s mouth water. "It smells so good! I want some too!"

Lou Xianyue steamed two more large bowls of custard, one for each of them. Any more and they wouldn’t have room for the main course.

Sang Luo sprinkled sea salt, chopped scallions, and soy sauce on the custard and carried it back to the main hall.

Little An loved the egg custard. One bowl wasn’t enough, so Sang Luo gave him Lou Xianyue’s bowl as well.

He ate half of that bowl, let out a full burp, and still wanted more.

Worried he’d make himself sick, Sang Luo took the bowl away. "If you want more, Mommy and Daddy can make it for you anytime. Don’t eat so much at once that you get a stomachache."

Just as Sang Luo finished her own bowl of custard, Lou Xianyue brought in the meal he had prepared.

Sang Luo picked up some shredded seaweed with her chopsticks and ate it with a mouthful of the sauce-drizzled eel rice. Her eyes lit up. ’It’s surprisingly delicious!’

’It couldn’t compare to Lan Cang’s cooking, but he’d definitely get better and better if he made it a few more times. She’d give it an eight out of ten!’

After the meal, a servant brought them tea.

Sang Luo picked up her cup and took a sip. A moment later, a sharp pain twisted in her abdomen.

Seeing her face turn pale, Lou Xianyue immediately seized the servant and took a sip of the tea himself—

It was poisoned!

"I’m fine." Sang Luo used Purification to neutralize the poison.

’But the poison’s appearance was so strange. Who did it? Does she even have any enemies in the Sea Palace?’

Lou Xianyue’s expression was absolutely livid. He never expected something like this to happen. He immediately launched a full investigation. A few days later, word came back: it was a secret assassination attempt by the Beastmen whose houses had been previously ransacked.

The Sea Palace had changed hands twice in a short period, and those people thought the Sea Emperor’s days were numbered. They wanted to make a desperate gamble.

The power of these officials was deeply and intricately rooted; uprooting them all at once would be no easy task.

Lou Xianyue personally led the investigation.

"Don’t worry, Sang’er. From now on, all ingredients sent here will be strictly controlled. I’ll taste everything before you eat."

"Don’t rush. Take your time with the investigation. I need to make a trip back to the East Continent."

Lou Xianyue grew tense. "Why the sudden trip to the East Continent?"

Sang Luo took out a Communication Jade Scroll. Si Ye had sent her a message last night. The battle against the Demon Clan had ended some days ago, and all the clans had brought their armies back. It was a stalemate. The Eye of the Ruins had been resealed by Fei Yuan, but he had been missing for a while and had only just returned last night.

’She owed him such a great debt of gratitude. She had to go back and see him.’

"You go on ahead, then. Once I’ve settled matters in the Sea Palace, I’ll come find you."

"Okay." Sang Luo nodded.

The next morning, after making the sweet osmanthus cake for Little Blue Eucalyptus, Sang Luo said her goodbyes and returned to the Phoenix Palace, where she saw Fei Yuan, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.

He was even more stunningly beautiful, his black hair as smooth and lustrous as silk.

Sang Luo had thought that after the battle and personally exerting himself for the sealing, Fei Yuan would be weak and haggard. She never expected to find him looking so radiant.

She stared, hesitating before she spoke. "Are... are you all right?"

"Hm? Does Little Luoruo wish for something to be wrong with me?" Fei Yuan’s elegant eyes glanced at her, the corners tilting alluringly.

Sang Luo frantically waved her hands. "No, no! Of course it’s best that you’re fine. I prayed every day that you would be!" Then she asked, "Was it you who sealed the Eye of the Ruins?"
