Chapter 115: Chapter 68: He’s the Craziest One

Sang Luo had wanted to go look for something to keep as a memento, but she found nothing.

Before leaving, she did find the missing box of Crystal Stones tucked away in a corner. The box was made of a silver-gray wood, a type Sang Luo had never seen in the lumber shops or buildings of the Western Continent. She figured it must be unique to other continents.

Unfortunately, the box had been opened, and the Beast Crystals inside were all gone. She figured it was the work of local thugs and Wandering Beasts.

Sang Luo had previously wondered who had sent all those boxes of Beast Crystals, but now she was almost certain she knew. She sighed, the realization ruining her appetite.

"Is something on your mind, Madam?" Little Bai took out a large bag of dried shrimp. "Try this. It’s delicious!"

"You get me." Sang Luo took one and chewed on it. It was crispy and fragrant, and the spicy flavor was the best.

It was the perfect snack for satisfying pregnancy cravings. She had developed a particular fondness for chewing on savory, dried-meat-like snacks during her pregnancy.

"Can I have a few more bags?"

"I just made a few dozen pounds this morning, and they haven’t all sold yet. I’ll go pack up the rest for you, Madam!"

Little Bai watched, amazed, as more than a dozen pounds of dried shrimp vanished in an instant, stored away in Sang Luo’s personal space. ’An ability like that is a foodie’s dream!’

"I’ve noticed a few other restaurants in the city are also doing well. Your newly opened inn might face some behind-the-scenes pressure from them, so the competition will be stiff. Let me give you some advice: you could run promotions, offer coupons, have ’spend-and-save’ Crystal Stone deals, and even those ’refer-a-friend-to-slash-the-price’ campaigns..."

"Once you’ve established your brand, you can open up a chain of franchises. People will pay for the right to use your brand’s influence and your secret recipes. And after they start making money, you’ll get to take a cut of their profits..."

Little Bai’s eyes lit up as she listened to Sang Luo lay it all out. "Madam, you’re a business genius!"

Sang Luo took a sip of water to hide her awkwardness. ’It’s all just experience from getting scammed by shady businessmen too many times in my past life.’

"Little Bai, you’ve got quite a crowd for lunch today. Let me give you a hand."

A refreshingly handsome, silver-haired Beastman walked in from outside. He froze when he saw Sang Luo and cried out, "Ma... Madam!"

Many of the customers glanced their way, and Sang Luo fought the urge to punch him.

"Don’t shout so loud."

She didn’t want to attract this much attention.

Leon hurried over, scratching his head with a sheepish grin. "It’s just been so long since I’ve seen you, Madam. For a moment, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I just got a little too excited!"

The two of them were still in the habit of calling her Madam, and Sang Luo hadn’t asked them to change it, so she let it be.

Leon grabbed a jug of wine. "Ever since His Lordship left, I was transferred to another department. I’m not stationed in the Imperial City anymore. I honestly thought I’d never get to see you again, Madam! Let me toast you. To our reunion!"

Little Bai added, "I’ll toast you too, Madam!"

Sang Luo poured herself a glass of juice and toasted with them before asking Leon, "So, where are you stationed now?"

’On the surface, Duotu is magnanimous, willing to let bygones be bygones—partly to win public support and partly as a smokescreen. But Leon’s situation is probably not good. He’s likely been semi-exiled to some border city and given a meaningless position with no real authority. There was no way Duotu would let one of Caesar’s men continue working right under his nose.’

Her guess was more or less spot on.

Leon took a few dejected swigs of wine and started airing his grievances. The Beast Pattern on his arm had deepened, indicating that his strength had improved.

He said, "After a few more months in the military, I’m thinking about resigning and coming to help Little Bai run this eatery. I wonder if the boss here would be willing to take in a poor Male Beast like me?"

He disliked the social schmoozing required in the military; it had only ever been a way to make a living. Now that the man he had loyally served was overthrown, he no longer had any desire to stay there.

Little Bai laughed. "If you come, I’ll hire you. As a matter of fact, Madam and I were just talking about opening up branch locations. We’ll definitely need the help."

"Great! In that case, I’m counting on you to make us rich."

Sang Luo had seen it for a while now. One of them loved money and making delicious food, while the other loved money and eating delicious food. She laughed and said, "You two are a perfect match in that regard."

She looked at Leon and raised an eyebrow. "But for a Seventh-level Beastman like you to be working as a handyman at an eatery... isn’t that a bit of a waste?"

"You have no idea, Madam. Some difficult customers try to dine and dash, and some Beastmen try to take advantage when they see Little Bai is a female. I’ve had to teach them all a lesson! Business at the eatery is booming, so other restaurant owners in the city want to buy her out. When being nice didn’t work, they started playing hardball, always sending people over to stir up trouble. Little Bai can’t handle it all by herself. My being here at least serves as a deterrent."
