From Runaway Bride to Global Queen-Chapter 18 - You Did That on Purpose
Chapter 18: Chapter 18 You Did That on Purpose
Lu Yanchuan glanced at the human-shaped ornament that had suddenly appeared on his arm and didn’t deny Qiao Yi’s words.
Qiao Yi let out a sigh of relief. Although Lu Yanchuan wasn’t the best of people, he was reliable when it really mattered.
Qiao Xin could practically burst with anger from the look in her eyes, and Qiao Yi felt that if looks could kill, she would have been hacked to pieces by now.
However, unfortunately for Qiao Xin, all she could do was glare at her.
Qiao Yi, holding on to Lu Yanchuan’s arm, strutted past Qiao Xin.
But as soon as she entered the elevator, Qiao Yi quickly shook off Lu Yanchuan’s hand, as if he was carrying some sort of virus.
...
“Thanks for playing along just now; consider it a debt I owe you.”
With her back turned to Lu Yanchuan, he simply hummed noncommittally. Qiao Yi took it as agreement and, as soon as the elevator stopped, she bolted out without looking back.
Lu Yanchuan looked at the ten-floor indicator on the elevator and then at Qiao Yi, who didn’t look back. He gave up on the idea of calling her back and continued down in the elevator by himself.
Qiao Yi felt she must have a problem; she wasn’t paying attention to where she was going at all, and now she found herself wandering in the hotel, unable to find her way out.
It took quite some effort to reach the first floor through the fire escape, and by the time Qiao Yi got to the restaurant, Lu Yanchuan had already ordered and started his meal.
Grinding her teeth and fuming, Qiao Yi sat opposite Lu Yanchuan. No sooner had she sat down than the waiters began serving her food.
Was Lu Yanchuan being kindhearted? Had he actually ordered her meal for her?
Lu Yanchuan, who sat opposite her, was still dressed in that austere black suit, but because of the meal, he had placed his jacket on the chair next to him.
Without his tie and with the top button of his shirt undone, it added an unexpectedly sexy touch to his appearance.
His sleeves were rolled up over his forearms, and even his manner of eating was noble, making him look distinguished just by sitting there.
Qiao Yi really wanted to know how he could pretend so well and so naturally!
This was purely her own pettiness. Lu Yanchuan noticed Qiao Yi’s discreet glances and subtly turned himself, offering her an even more perfect view.
Qiao Yi didn’t want to admit she was being seduced by this man, so she became annoyed once more. She angrily devoured a steak with her fork and then left Lu Yanchuan to go back to her room alone.
Lu Yanchuan didn’t care that she was running away. He finished his meal leisurely and by the time he got back to his room, it was pitch black.
Qiao Yi hadn’t even left a small night light for him.
Under the hazy moonlight, he could barely make out a small bulge on the bed. Lu Yanchuan’s gaze darkened slightly, and he lay down next to Qiao Yi.
The bidding event was just two days away. Early in the morning, Lu Yanchuan left the hotel, claiming to be inspecting the Lu Group’s branch office in Tian City.
Qiao Yi had nothing to do, so she lounged around the hotel until noon before reluctantly getting up for lunch.
Tian City is rather unique among many northern cities, rich in cultural heritage and traditional features. Thus, after eating, Qiao Yi went shopping in the city center.
Qiao Yi was accompanied to the event with the Qiao sisters by one of Qiao Benqing’s assistants, who hurriedly called her back when she knew Qiao Yi was out shopping.
“Second Miss, we are here for the auction. Even if you give up on the final outcome, you still need to put up an appearance. Do you want everyone to see that the Qiao Family has given up?”
The assistant was earnest and well-meaning, but Qiao Yi just curled her lip and rolled her eyes.
“Mr. Feng, you worry too much. My sister is overly enthusiastic about preparing for the bid. With her around, no one will care about what I do.”
Qiao Yi tossed off a sentence and ran away, leaving Mr. Feng pounding his thigh in frustration.
It was clear that the second Miss’s business talents far surpassed those of the eldest Miss. Why, then, did Ms. Qiao insist on keeping the second Miss out of the company and instead relentlessly groom the elder daughter?
Qiao Yi knew the answer to this question; in fact, she was the one who had orchestrated the whole thing.
Qiao Benqing had been busy with work when Qiao Xin was born and couldn’t provide enough company. Thus, Qiao Benqing always felt a sense of guilt towards Qiao Xin.
Knowing this, Qiao Yi had always given way to Qiao Xin, but Qiao Xin had been nothing but a disappointment to her.
After wandering outside for an afternoon, Qiao Yi returned to the hotel laden with bags.
While Qiao Xin focused on gathering bid information, Lu Yanchuan and Lu Ming inspected the companies, Qiao Yi was seriously splurging on shopping.
For two whole days, until the day of the bidding conference, the group of four met again.
“Sister, you’ve really taken it easy this time. Just a bit of shopping and you’re done? It’s impressive how you still remember that today is the bidding conference!”
The four stood in the elevator, with Qiao Yi and Qiao Xin naturally side by side. Qiao Xin glanced at the new dress on Qiao Yi’s body, her dissatisfaction and disdain evident as she rolled her eyes.

Qiao Yi pushed her sunglasses up, treating Qiao Xin’s comment as if it were nothing more than a fart in her ear, completely ignoring her.
Qiao Xin, refusing to let it go, suddenly stepped forward as if to leave the elevator with Qiao Yi – intent, in reality, on tripping her.
Without a sideward glance, Qiao Yi lifted her foot and stamped down hard.
“Ah!”
Qiao Xin screamed as she stumbled out of the elevator, the skin from her calf to the top of her foot pierced by Qiao Yi’s sharp high heels, blood flowing out immediately.
“Oh dear, I am terribly sorry, sister. I didn’t see your foot somehow found its way under mine, so sorry indeed.”
Qiao Yi stepped back, flicked her skirt, and lifted her sunglasses slightly to glance down.
Though her words apologized, her face showed no hint of remorse; instead, it was full of mockery.
“You! You did it on purpose!”
Faced with Qiao Xin’s roar, Qiao Yi laughed.
“I did it on purpose? Right, I intentionally let you stick your foot under mine, intentionally let you trip me. My wish to fall hasn’t come true yet, what a disappointment indeed.”
Qiao Yi’s mocking tone irritated even Lu Ming, who was crouching down to check on Qiao Xin’s injury, causing him to look at her surprisingly.
“Sister, if you’re hurt, why not have your brother-in-law take you to the hospital? If there’s no serious problem, then stand up. Sitting here like this is an embarrassing spectacle.”
Qiao Yi straightened up and walked over to Lu Yanchuan, linking her arm through his, as if the person who had just behaved so bizarrely wasn’t her.
Qiao Xin trembled with fury, her face turning green as she pushed Lu Ming’s hand away and struggled to stand, watching the retreating figures of Qiao Yi and Lu Yanchuan go side by side.
Lu Ming, brushed aside, showed a fleeting grimace, but still wore a concerned expression as he helped Qiao Xin.
“There’s a lot of blood on your leg. Let’s take care of it first, be careful about an infection.”
Qiao Xin took a few rapid breaths and finally nodded her head, allowing Lu Ming to support her toward the medical room.
