Chapter 49: Confessions, Chaos, and a Million-Dollar Surprise
"Sian." Lan Qisheng called out the other man’s name but said nothing more. Still, Sian could understand the language of his eyes—those deep blue eyes seemed to say: You’re playing with fire.
Sian chuckled playfully but obediently lowered his hand, ceasing his teasing of the poor, big puppy who looked as though a certain part of his body was about to explode at any moment.
"What’s this? You dare to crave the meal from afar but don’t have the guts to take a bite when it serves itself right at your doorstep?" Sian raised an eyebrow provocatively, his expression both alluring and mischievous.
The moment Sian uttered those words, the blue eyes staring at him darkened further. Their owner swallowed twice, licked his lips, and, after a moment of hesitation, finally spoke, "So... you’re sure about this? I mean, we can—"
"Be together?" Sian cut in smoothly. "Well, to be honest, Colonel Lan, you’re not bad at all. A great body, an even better face... and personally, I find your personality quite nice too. So why not give it a try? What do you say?"
Frankly, Lan Qisheng hadn’t expected such a straightforward declaration. It wasn’t that Sian wasn’t the type to say such things—on the contrary, his strong, direct, and indifferent nature made it perfectly in character.
But the love-struck Lan Qisheng had imagined something different—something more romantic, like love at first fight or love at first sight. So, he felt a tinge of disappointment. However, that feeling vanished instantly when he heard Sian suggesting they "try being together".
As if afraid Sian would take back his words, Lan Qisheng immediately leaned in even closer—so much so that Sian’s head nearly collided with the firm, muscular chest in front of him.
"I want to. Sian, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Of course. So please take care of me, my love."
The air was thick with floating hearts and the intoxicatingly sweet scent of love and passion—so overwhelming that the onlookers nearly fainted.
The group that had originally come to apologize to Sian—only to be firmly rejected and politely shown the way out—couldn’t take it anymore. Silently, they picked themselves up and left the room.
Truthfully, they had stayed to witness the drama between Sian and CEO Jiang because they had read and seen all the previous news about how Sian was pathetically in love with his boss, a pitiful third wheel. But after the past few minutes, their perception of the situation had changed. However, that was as far as their curiosity went. Once the scene turned into a romantic—well, somewhat romantic—moment, they suddenly felt like they were the third wheels. So, with eerie quietness, they exited the room without anyone noticing.
Of course, the thick-skinned individuals remained, shamelessly unfazed.
In fact, a certain CEO even shouted, "Sian, you whore! How dare you betray me?!"
Sian: "..." [Has this bastard finally lost it? Or is he high?
There had never been anything between them, to begin with. If anything, Jiang Hangyu had only treated the original Sian with slight kindness for a few days before Song Zijian completely ruined Sian’s reputation, making Jiang Hangyu despise him to the core. The man had even sought every possible way to get rid of Sian and take revenge for his precious white lotus.
So, where exactly was this supposed betrayal coming from?]
Even the black—ah, no, white—lotus broke character as Song Zijian angrily called out, "Brother Jiang!"
Of course, he had plenty to say—he wanted to scold Jiang Hangyu for daring to cling to Sian despite being his lover. He even wanted to call him out for accusing Sian of betrayal.
But in the end, Song Zijian couldn’t say anything else besides his name. Not out of love or to save Jiang Hangyu from embarrassment—no, he simply knew that his status did not allow him to reprimand the mighty CEO.
After all, he wasn’t Jiang Hangyu’s official partner. In fact, one could even say he was merely a kept pet. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
And since he couldn’t vent his anger at the CEO, a certain someone redirected all his frustration toward Sian, cursing and spewing all kinds of nasty insults. He would have continued for hours had Lan Qisheng not called security to finally dispose of the trash.
The two men were swiftly thrown out—one was screaming like a lunatic every second, while the other remained eerily silent. Yet, for some reason, he seemed even more insane than the first, perhaps due to his bloodshot eyes brimming with hatred, resentment, and even... the pain of betrayal.
Wow. That man should seriously be admitted to a mental hospital.
Once the room quieted down, Sian collapsed onto his bed, exhaling in relief.
Don’t ask where his love for people, noise, and chaos went—he had barely held himself back from outright murdering someone just now.
Lan Qisheng, meanwhile, gazed at the boy lying on the white sheets with eyes full of tenderness. The hem of Sian’s shirt had lifted slightly, revealing a slim, pale waist and faint mermaid lines peeking out from under his hospital pyjamas.
Lan Qisheng exhaled sharply and quickly looked away, telling himself that perhaps he needed to start reciting Buddhist scriptures or something to purify his mind.
Because every time he was around this boy, he felt like a beast in heat rather than a man.
If this continued, one day, the beast might break free and devour the boy whole, leaving not even an inch of him untouched.
Sian, noticing how Lan Qisheng was breathing heavily and darting his gaze around the room, smiled in amusement. What’s this dumb puppy thinking now?
Waving to get his attention, Sian asked, "By the way, what happened with my issue?"
"Huh?" Lan Qisheng snapped out of his thoughts. "Ah, Grandpa took care of everything—from the media to the security forces and high-ranking officials. He used his connections to ensure that the state recognizes you as a hero who saved lives. You won’t be investigated for anything; the higher-ups have ordered it. You can continue your life as usual once things settle down and people forget what happened in the forest."
"Really?!" Sian sat up instantly, his face lighting up.
Only God knew how much this matter had weighed on his mind. He had imagined the worst possible scenarios—even convincing himself that life in prison wouldn’t be so bad if it came to that.
"Thank God," he sighed in relief, placing a hand over his chest.
He then thanked Lan Qisheng, who simply smiled in response before asking about Sian’s future plans.
Sian admitted he hadn’t decided yet.
"I heard your boss say you were kicked out of the idol dormitory. Do you have anywhere else to stay?" Lan Qisheng hesitated as he asked.
Sian frowned, realizing he was now jobless.
After being expelled from the idol group Angels and having his contract terminated, he had nowhere to go. He didn’t know enough about this world to get a job quickly, nor did he have a home or family to return to.
In his previous world, he never had to worry about a place to sleep—he could just break into any abandoned house, crash in a truck by the roadside, or even rest under a bridge. It didn’t matter.
But obviously, he couldn’t do that here.
If he tried trespassing, he’d end up in jail.
Before Sian could come up with a solution, Lan Qisheng suddenly said, "Grandpa mentioned that the President decided to reward you with an official certificate of recognition and a public commendation next week. You’ll also be given some money as thanks."
"Money?! How much?!"
Sian bolted upright, leaping onto the bed in one swift motion. Now standing atop the mattress, he towered over Lan Qisheng by several centimetres, his sharp gaze locked onto him with intense urgency.
Lan Qisheng enjoyed the sight of Sian’s childlike excitement and didn’t mind his greed. After all, who didn’t love money?
He raised a finger.
"Ten thousand?" Sian guessed.
Lan Qisheng shook his finger in a clear no.
"A hundred thousand?"
Another shake.
"Just tell me already!" Sian lost patience.
"One million," Lan Qisheng finally said.
"One million?!" Sian echoed in shock.
And when Lan Qisheng nodded in confirmation—
Sian suddenly pounced, wrapping his arms and legs around the man like a koala, refusing to let go.
