Chapter 108: Double-Faced cowardly King

Celestia’s POV:

Cynthia grunted just like she did whenever she saw me. And I continued to ignore her as usual and laid my eyes on Theo. Just like Cynthia, he didn’t seem to be very happy about my arrival either.

"Is it true what I heard? Are you planning to go to the Shadow realm alone?" I asked him directly.

"Yes," he answered swiftly and surprised me.

Why is he so keen on facing the Demon Princess alone? He is the King of the Lowlands now. And he has got thousands of Demonic warriors under his control. But still, wants to face Lilin alone?

I tightened my grip around the scroll that was in my hand. Perhaps Theo will change his mind once he gets to know about the message that my father has sent.

"Theo," I said and gave my scroll to him. "My father wants to unite with you. Read this!"

But he grabbed the scroll from my hand and ripped them into tiny little bits. I didn’t move a muscle until the bits of paper were flying in the air. What just happened now?

"Theo....." I screamed out. "Have you entirely gone insane? Why would you tear off the scroll that my father sent you?"

"Oberon’s false words mean nothing to me, Celestia. He doesn’t want to unite with me! He is trying to lure me into his trap with this invitation so that in the end, he can pin all the blame on me."

Now he is not even making any sense. I know that he despises my father, but now he is calling out for a union. Why is Theo ignoring the help?

"I don’t need any help from the lame King Oberon. I don’t need anyone’s help with this. I know everything about Lilin, and I can stop her by myself. I would appreciate it if you two ladies do not get in my way."

"No, I am going to get in your way. I will not let you do this," I fired at him.

"Me neither," Cynthia interrupted in our conversation. "I forbid you from doing that. We are going to figure out a way together and face the Shadow creatures."

Theo got highly frustrated with our response. He clenched his fists together and just vanished as white fumes. I turned to Cynthia, who was in shock too, just like me.

"Do everything that you can and stop him from making this outrageous mistake! He is your man, after all," she said, and after that, she disappeared from the spot too.

I took a deep breath and tried to pull myself together. The first thing that popped up in my mind was to pick up the bits of the torn scroll that was lying on the ground.

My father had written it by himself with a quill! I knelt down on the ground and began to pick up the milky white shreds from the mud. Theo should not have ripped off the scroll.

He knows how much my father’s words mean to me. The last letter that I got from him was so awful that I threw it out by myself. But in this scroll, he didn’t criticize me at all. And Theo had to show off his frustration on it!

I managed to pick up five large shreds from the ground. But some were missing! They must have drifted off in the wind. I thought of giving up the search, but when the sun began to rise slowly, I decided to keep searching.

The sun brought light to the whole ground, and I was able to see the missing shreds ten feet away from me. I collected ten more shreds and looked around the ground to see if there was more.

When I couldn’t find any more, I slowly walked back to the castle. I am not going to forgive him for this!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went back to the room and sprinkled the shreds of the scroll on the bed. I sat down on the mattress and carefully tried to rearrange the pieces of shreds.
Whatever Theo told me out there kept popping up in my head. What does he mean by my father luring him with this invitation? And Theo also added that my father is trying to pin the blame on him. But that doesn’t make any sense at all!
It took me a while to understand the reason why Theo lashed out at me. He doesn’t trust my father. He is assuming wrongly that my father is going to sabotage him in some way.
But that is not my father’s style of stopping his enemy. Father Oberon has a principle of not attacking his opponents from behind. No matter how vigorous his opponent is, he considers facing them on a battlefield directly!
He always tells his subjects that it is more graceful to accept defeat than to win by deceiving. In many battles, he has proved it to his subjects by confronting his foes directly and defeating them in combat.
Theo is worried about nothing here! He could have let me talk. I would have explained everything to him. Sometimes Theo gets very stubborn for minor issues, and it is infuriating for me to bear with him.
After some time, I succeeded in assembling the pieces of shreds together. I quietly stared at the bits for a moment. I wish that my father acknowledges me.
Father Oberon can be a partial man, but he is still noble by heart. He proved that he still cares about me by wrapping me with his cape when my clothes were burnt out.
My father acts like he is mad at me because he actually dislikes Theo! And lately, Theo got frantic because of the scroll from my father. It would be very good if they were not at each other’s throats all the time.
Suddenly, the door to my room opened, and Theo got in. He raised his eyebrows when he saw the rearranged shreds of the scroll on the mattress.
"Celestia, did you actually pick up these bits from the ground?" he mocked me.
I jumped to the ground and strode closer to Theo. "How dare you tear up the scroll? And why do you think that my father is going to deceive you? He is a noble person! He would never stab his allies in their back," I began to yell at him.
Theo started to laugh even before I could complete saying that. He didn’t stop laughing for a while. Why is he taunting me now? He leaned his back against the wall and tried hard to control himself.
"Sometimes you are so funny, Celestia," he shook his head and let out a chuckle. "Oberon is the least noble person in all three realms. Despite knowing the truth about him, do you still think highly of him?"
"Yes," I agreed. "My father can be partial sometimes. He considers Faes as the superior being, and that is his only fatal flaw! Other than that, he is a noble person and a mighty warrior who dares to face the opponents on the battlefield, unlike you who tricked your way into becoming the King of the Lowlands."
I regretted my words as soon as they came out of my mouth. Why did I have to say that?!!! But what I said was not untrue. Theo got these lands by deceiving these people, and it is not noble.
"Is that what you think of me, Celestia?" His tone was low and gloomy. He strode closer to me and stared directly into my eyes. "Do you really believe your father over me? And you think that what he did was right?"
I regretted hurting him. Theo obviously had his reasons. No one on the side of light acknowledged him. That is why he has to choose the darkness. But still, whatever he did was not noble.
He tricked the Mages and made them believe that they are in danger. He used their vulnerability to his advantage. That was wrong!
Theo got even more hurt as he heard my thoughts. Holy Aiden! I should stop thinking now. But it was too late when I realized it. Theo had already heard everything!
"I feel so betrayed by you, Celestia! You have hurt me so bad today. You are the only thing that I love the most, and you not taking my side is really painful to bear."
"But I didn’t mean any of those words that I just said. And please ignore my thoughts. I have no control over them."
"That is enough, Celestia," he raised his voice at me. "You don’t have to defend yourself anymore. Because I can clearly sense that you want your father to take you back."
"Yes, I want him to take me back," I cried out. "Because he is my father! But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want you. I just want you to stop fighting with my father. I want both of you to get along."
"That is never going to happen, Celestia," Theo shouted again and silenced me entirely. Every time he raises his tone, I always get startled. His whole facial expression got intimidating after that. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Oberon and I will always be mortal enemies for eternity! And you have to understand that Oberon is nothing but a double-faced cowardly King who puts on a mask of perfection in front of his subjects. The sooner you realize this truth, the better it is for you."
After that, he stormed out of the room in anger, leaving me in tears. Why does he have to be such a monster?
This time I noticed something different that I hadn’t seen before. Every time I talked about my father, his sea-green eyes got a little murkier. I tried hard to find the meaning of that.
