Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!-Chapter 161: The Leaker Has Been Identified
In the car, Clara Sterling received a message from her friend Lisa Holloway.
[Clara, did you know Diana Dawson was fired?]
[I didn’t know, why?]
[I’m not sure, so I’m asking you. I heard Special Assistant Lynch personally went to notify the HR department. If Lynch is involved, it’s certainly your husband’s decision. Why don’t you ask your husband?]
Seeing this, Clara Sterling looked up at Silas Sheffield.
The man was driving, his features cool and focused on the road ahead.
After a while, the car stopped at a red light, and Clara seized the moment to ask, "Diana Dawson was fired?"
"Yes." Silas understood she wanted to know the reason, so he explained, "Wasn’t she always bullying you?"
"Not really bullying, just liked to badmouth me. She had a crush on Julian Hawthorne and always saw me as her imaginary rival."
Silas replied in a calm tone, "She accepted benefits from Thea Tate and pretended to faint at the anniversary party to stop the announcement."
Clara was taken aback. She had previously suspected Diana’s fainting had something to do with Thea, but hadn’t pursued it. She was surprised Silas had uncovered the truth.
Silas said coldly, "Someone who can be bribed so easily can’t be kept in the company."
Clara nodded, "Firing her was the right decision."
Diana was never focused on work. She dressed flamboyantly every day, tried to stay relevant in front of Julian, and sought an office romance with him. Privately, she huddled with cliques to gossip.
Such employees are a nuisance within a company.
Moreover, someone like her could follow Thea’s orders for money today and might betray the company for money tomorrow.
Thinking about it, Clara suddenly asked, "Was the person who leaked to Sutton Group found? Could it be her?"
Silas: "It’s not her."
Sheffield found the leak, Director Lowell from the planning department, who had been at Sheffield for over four years without significant achievements.
According to Director Lowell, he betrayed the company because he was seriously ill, had young twins starting elementary school, and a mother bedridden for years. The pressure was overwhelming, and he had decided to forego treatment and leave his savings to his family.
A manager at Sutton Group was an old classmate he ran into at the hospital. After learning about his situation, he offered Lowell a deal.
If Lowell leaked Sheffield’s new product data and launch event plans to Sutton Group, he would receive substantial money.
Lowell knew the consequences, possibly facing jail.
But he was terminally ill and had given up treatment. The doctor said he had up to two years to live.
That night, he contemplated deeply, and the next day, he leaked the confidential files about the launch to Sutton Group.
Before firing him, Silas met him personally.
In the office, when Silas questioned Director Lowell, Lowell kept his eyes on the ground, not daring to meet Silas’s gaze.
Silas’s intuition told him that this wasn’t simple.
But the evidence they found pointed to this person, and Lowell admitted to everything, refusing to say anything else.
Seeing no more could be learned, Silas instructed the evidence to be handed over to the police.
Lowell was already suspected of committing a crime, and further investigation by the police would follow. Once sufficient evidence existed, it would go to the prosecutor’s office for charges.
Over the past few days, Clara had spent hours each day embroidering a peony design for Madam Sheffield and finished it two days before the birthday feast.
The day before Madam Sheffield’s 80th birthday, Silas and Clara returned to Crestwood together.
In the lounge, Clara called Sophie Sheffield, while Silas sat aside handling work.
"I’ll be picking you up with Preston Pierce this afternoon," Sophie said with a hint of laughter in her voice.
"Sounds good." Clara smiled, "How are things with him lately?"
"We’re doing great." Sophie’s tone was sweet, clearly indicating happiness.
Clara felt genuine happiness for her, "I haven’t seen Preston in years. Has he changed much?"
"Not much, he’s still as handsome as ever."
Preston was the heartthrob of their class. By high school, he was already 185 cm tall, with fair skin and a trendy hairstyle. Even in the unflattering school uniform, he looked exceptionally good.
After boarding, Clara set her phone to flight mode, and Silas finally finished his work, allowing himself some rest.
"I’m a bit nervous," Clara looked at Silas. "Tomorrow is Grandma’s birthday party, and I’ll meet your big family."
Zeke Sheffield and Joanne Quincy were also arriving in Crestwood today, though Clara and Silas were getting in around 6 p.m., and Zeke and Joanne’s international flight would arrive after 11 p.m.
Clara knew the Sheffield family members from what Silas had told her earlier.
Silas’s father, Zeke, is the eldest son of the Sheffield Family.
His second uncle, named Carter Sheffield, has two sons. The eldest is Miles Sheffield, married, working abroad, and only returns for Madam Sheffield’s birthday and New Year. The younger son is Simon Sheffield, attending university in the country.
His third uncle is Seth Sheffield, who has twins—a son named Ivan Sheffield and a daughter named Hannah Sheffield, both still in high school.
His aunt, Rose Sheffield, has remained single, a staunch advocate of singlehood, still unmarried, and usually overseas with Zeke and Joanne Quincy handling Sheffield’s international business.
Tomorrow, guests will include Madam Sheffield’s children and grandchildren, as well as the siblings of the late elder and relatives from Madam Sheffield’s side.
With such a large family, Clara felt nervous just thinking about it.
Madam Sheffield didn’t like her, and she was unsure of how the rest of the Sheffield family would react.
"Don’t worry, I’m here." Silas gently squeezed Clara’s hand, silently comforting her.
"I don’t know if Grandma will like the embroidery I prepared for her." Although Clara said that, she already knew the answer.
Grandma has always disfavored her, and with the recent Thea incident, there’s no way she’d like it.
"You’ve been so thoughtful; I’m sure Grandma will appreciate it," Silas said. "Don’t worry, I’ll have a good talk with Grandma."
Clara was a little tired these days and soon fell asleep.
Silas covered her with a blanket, giving her forehead a gentle kiss.
The plane landed in Crestwood.
Silas wrapped an arm around Clara as they headed toward the exit.
"Clara!" Sophie waved at them.
Clara looked over, spotting Sophie and Preston not far away.
