Chapter 160: Chapter 160: My Wife Silas Sheffield Will Not Tolerate Anyone’s Slander

The phone was connected, but no one answered.

Thea called again and heard a mechanical female voice: "The number you dialed is currently on another call."

Her brow furrowed tightly, she got up out of the office and went to the top floor president’s office.

Just out of the elevator, Zachary saw her, "Miss Tate, what do you need?"

Silas had just told Zachary that Thea was fired, now he referred to her as "Miss Tate" instead of "President Tate."

Thea maintained a facade of calm, "I’m looking for President Sheffield."

Zachary’s tone was indifferent, "President Sheffield didn’t come to the company today."

"Then where is he?"

"I’m not sure either."

Thea held back her anger, "You’re his assistant. How could you not know his schedule?"

Zachary was no longer polite, coldly saying, "President Sheffield said you were fired, just go through the process with HR; he won’t see you."

Anger rose in Thea’s eyes, her tone harsh, "Where is he? I need to see him!"

"I don’t know." Zachary said as he took out a document and handed it to her, "But President Sheffield instructed me to give this to you. You’ll understand once you’ve read it."

Thea took the document and flipped through a few pages, her face instantly turned pale.

It contained evidence of her distorting facts and spreading rumors about Clara, as well as evidence of her ex-boyfriend hacking into the surveillance system to destroy monitoring data.

It also stated that he wanted her to apologize publicly online, restoring Clara’s innocence.

Indeed, Silas wanted to fire her because of the Clara incident.

Thea clutched the A4 paper tightly, eyes glimmering with cold light, "Apologize publicly? Ha, does she deserve it?"

Zachary spoke coldly, "President Sheffield said that if you’re unwilling to apologize publicly online, he will pursue it to the end and even implicate the Tate Group."

"President Sheffield asked me to tell you that if you don’t apologize, he would rather let someone else have the land in Brierwood District than let your Tate Group get it, and the Tate Group’s recent investment project will lose everything."

Zachary said these words with a smile, his tone calm, but the more Thea listened, the paler her face became.

Silas was threatening her.

He used the interests of the Tate Group to threaten her.

Thea’s hands couldn’t stop shaking, her eyes quickly welled up with tears.

She was unwilling!

She was crazily jealous!

Silas did this to make Clara right, not caring about the Tate family’s face at all, not only firing her but demanding a public apology online, and he was even willing to deal with the Tate Group for Clara.

What did that slut Clara have? Why is she deserving of all this?

What’s so good about her that Silas could do all this for her?

Thea was so angry, her eyes turned red and her molars were close to shattering.

She dialed Silas several times, all indicated that he was on another call.

She realized that Silas had blocked her number.

Thea had no choice but to call Silas’s grandmother.

...

Silas received Susan Saxon’s call right after having breakfast with Clara, about to visit Warren Cheney.

Grandma called, and Silas was not surprised; no need to ask to know what she wanted to say.

Silas answered the call.

Sure enough, Susan immediately mentioned Thea, "I heard from Thea that you fired her? Why?"

"She is not pure-hearted, not suitable to stay in Sheffield."

"Not pure-hearted?" Susan was immediately angry when she heard this, "What do you mean not pure-hearted? Thea is such a pure girl, how could you just fire her out of nowhere?"

Susan’s voice elevated, with anger, "How should I explain to your Grandpa Tate? We’ve had so many years of friendship between the two families, she grew up with you, and you didn’t even inform me before firing her?"

Silas’s voice was cold and deep, "Why should I explain firing my company’s employee to anyone else?"

"Then tell me how she’s not pure-hearted?"

"Recently, Clara and Julian’s rumors were spread by her."

Susan coldly snorted, "And so? That’s considered not pure-hearted? If your wife hadn’t acted improperly and gotten so close to another man, would anyone spread rumors about her? You don’t blame your wife, you blame Thea instead?"

Silas was resolute, his tone firm, "I will not allow anyone to slander my wife."

"Do you realize what the consequences of firing her will be? You don’t care about the Tate family’s face, intending to break ties with them for that Clara?"

"Yes." Silas answered directly, without hesitation.

Susan was so angry that she was stumbling over her words, "You... you’re simply unreasonable! Utterly reckless!"

"Grandma, the unreasonable person is you. I have matters to attend to, I’ll hang up now." Silas said and didn’t wait for Susan to speak before hanging up the call.

Clara looked up at him, her tone neutral, "Grandma knows you fired Thea?"

"Mm."

"She must be angry, right?"

When Silas looked at Clara, the coldness in his expression slightly diminished.

"She is quite angry, but I cannot easily let go of those who hurt you just because she is angry." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Seeing him defend her like this, Clara’s heart felt like it was dipped in honey, sweet.

At Warren Cheney’s house, Clara chatted with her teacher, discussing academia.

Recently, there have been several excellent papers in the field; Clara is also very attentive.

She read those papers and noted things she didn’t understand, now discussing with Warren Cheney one by one.

The two got lost in conversation until Mrs. Cheney came to call them to eat, "Let’s eat first, talk after dinner."

Only then did they stop.

Warren Cheney smiled kindly at Clara, "Not bad, you’ve improved greatly recently."

Clara smiled lightly, "You flatter me, teacher."

Warren Cheney was pleased, looking at Clara with appreciation, "With the knowledge you currently possess, you can already start in the lab. I’ll introduce you to a few senior figures whenever you’re free."

"Sounds great." Clara was delighted, "After the fifteenth, I’ll have plenty of time. You can arrange it, teacher."

The fifteenth is Silas’s grandmother’s eightieth birthday, an event Clara dared not forget.

"Alright, I’ll see when’s convenient to arrange it."

After dinner, Silas accompanied Warren Cheney for a game of chess.

Warren Cheney typically enjoys academia and experiments, with not much interest otherwise; chess being one.

Clara watched by the side.

Warren Cheney smiled at Clara, "Silas is skilled at chess, one of my few worthy opponents. I enjoy playing against him."

Since Warren Cheney took Clara as an apprentice, he no longer formalistically distanced himself by calling Silas "President Sheffield."

Clara wasn’t very knowledgeable about Go, but after watching several matches between Warren Cheney and Silas, she found interest in Go.

On the way back, Clara eagerly asked, "When will you teach me chess? It looks quite interesting."

Silas’s lips curled in a smile, "Anytime."
