Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind-Chapter 61 - 54: Encountering the Evil Spirit Again
The distant sky was filled with milky white mist, so dense and turbulent that it rolled toward Chuyun City, enveloping the whole city in a sea of clouds.
Zhou Li walked ahead and led the way, with You Su following behind.
"Not being able to see at times like this might be a good thing," Zhou Li said seriously.
You Su felt a moment of disorientation, then had a hint of self-deprecation, silently lamenting that they seemed to have underestimated him.
There were thirty-six people on patrol, three per hour. You Su, being the leader of the Immortal Ascension Conference, was omitted from the list due to his blindness. Even when returning home, Mr. Liou specifically arranged for someone to escort him, just like Wu Cheng was sent to fetch him.
Clearly, he had become the useless person in everyone’s eyes.
But You Su didn’t think so; in this overwhelming fog, everyone was somewhat blind, but why would these people, who had only recently become blind, believe they could adapt to this blurred environment better than someone who has been blind for eighteen years?
However, You Su did not force the issue; in the face of sudden crisis, he only hoped to protect his junior sister and Master first, and if possible, to save others.
"Being unable to see is never a good thing," You Su replied flatly. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Zhou Li was a bit surprised, he didn’t mean anything else. It was just that the surroundings were too quiet, and vision was limited. Walking forward in silence like this, he felt like they were silently walking the path of ghosts to the underworld, so he couldn’t help but express his thoughts.
"Hmm, I understand," Zhou Li said, though truly empathizing is difficult among people, he may not really understand.
Feeling that continued silence was strange, You Su added, "Your mentor and my mentor don’t get along well, but it’s remarkable that your mentor is willing to go out to deliver messages."
"Thank you, my mentor has a volatile temper and is competitive, but indeed a good person."
"Your last name is Zhou too, what is Mr. Zhou to you?"
"He’s my adoptive father," Zhou Li continued as prompted, "The place where I was born is far from here, close to the coast. I grew up without parents, relying on the meals of a hundred families. At ten years old, I discovered that I could cultivate, but there were no sects there, so I ventured inland wanting to join the Immortal Sect."
"But repeated rejections made me despair until Mr. Zhou took me in and taught me cultivation. Mr. Zhou himself has children who sometimes conflict with me, but Mr. Zhou always stood up for me. I am very grateful to him. During an intra-sect competition, I won first place, Mr. Zhou asked me what reward I wanted, I asked him to grant me his surname. His other sons were all upset, but Mr. Zhou insisted, and henceforth I was called Zhou Li."
"I don’t covet my adoptive father’s inheritance, but only want to inspire myself with the surname to cultivate harder and live up to it. I always thought I was quite capable until the day I saw the contest between you and Wu Cheng, and realized I was a frog in the well."
"Don’t belittle yourself, my mentor often says cultivators should not compare against each other but against the heavens and themselves. The Dao is boundless, temporary leading doesn’t count, only the ones who walk till the end are real winners." You Su comforted.
"No wonder your mentor could teach such an outstanding disciple like you." Zhou Li praised sincerely.
"This is as far as I go, you should spend more time with your adoptive father," You Su abruptly stopped, ahead was the most familiar West Willow Road.
"The mist here seems denser than in the city, let me escort you to the door," Zhou Li examined the dense fog ahead and tentatively suggested.
You Su took a stride forward past Zhou Li, "I’ve long been familiar with the road ahead, I could walk it backwards, fog doesn’t affect me."
Zhou Li didn’t insist, and with a reminder to "Be careful, if needing anything head to the City Lord’s Mansion," he turned back.
You Su walked calmly through the mist, the conversation with Zhou Li was plain, yet a sense of lingering melancholy pervaded.
Everyone may have their own splendid story, but in the face of despair brought by the gigantic supernatural entity outside the city, all stories lost their inherent color.
"Divine Revelation Chuyun..."
Out of nowhere, You Su recalled Mr. Ling’s final murmurs, increasingly feeling that today’s events were related to those four words.
But what does "Divine" refer to? Could it be that gigantic entity spewing mist which Mr. Liou mentioned is the "Divine"?
You Su shook his head internally, believing it wouldn’t be that simple. If the "Divine" made Mr. Liou believe as long as the Exorcism Bureau arrived they’d be saved, then it wouldn’t be a true "Divine."
Based on this, You Su suspected the purpose behind the continual spewing mist by it was likely a preparation for the arrival of the true "Divine."
He couldn’t help but recall his junior sister’s words, the purpose of those powerful supernatural entities on Taisui and Master coming to Chuyun City wasn’t to eat them, for what then? Also about Mr. Ling’s "Divine"? What relation do they have with the Mist Ghost outside? Would the current situation cause those entities to leave his junior sister’s and Master’s bodies, or will the erosion be more intense?
You Su took the Exorcism Order out from the Qiankun Bag and held it, nearly forgetting the information it once revealed:
Dream-eating Ghost steals altar treasures and escapes, possibly already in Central Yuan region.
He always thought this information was irrelevant to him, but now it seems it couldn’t be disconnected from "Divine Revelation Chuyun," as if Chuyun City is the endpoint where all clues converge.
His mind was a chaotic mess; none of the information was a burden someone of his strength should bear.
Even with memories of two lives, he didn’t see himself as the center of the world, just regretting that if he had known, he should have taken his junior sister and Master away from this place earlier. Thinking of this, his pace quickened.
Suddenly, the sound of birds taking flight shattered the silence among the brick tiles, and an unsettling sensation of being watched crawled up from within, causing goosebumps to form on his skin.
He instinctively wanted to expand his Divine Sense to observe the surroundings but was restricted by the mist, perceiving nothing. Yet he clearly sensed something, a feeling not stemming from Divine Sense...
You Su abruptly turned around! Above the cornice behind him crouched a cat-sized red entity, eerily watching him!
Its bared teeth and eyes were beneath its jaws, as if its head was twisted halfway around, its body fur ominously floating, upon closer inspection revealed to be scarlet tendrils.
Every hair on You Su’s body stood on end, and the entity, noticing You Su’s gaze, narrowed its pupils and instantly fled to the other side of the wall.
You Su frowned slightly but hesitated not, drawing Mo Song Sword and immediately chased after.
