Within the dining and guest area of Princess Aleriana’s palace, she sat with her fingers gently tapping along the surface of the table.
As she looked towards the dishes, she couldn’t help but feel her sapphire gaze turn cold, a glint forming within them as a memory flashed of Kyle’s intentions to meet with the Empress Dowager—the present King’s sister and her aunt.
It felt more like a provocation to her, even knowing how the political connections between royalty weren’t always familiar. Even more so was the fact that both of them could go for each other’s lives.
Yet the man she wanted to marry clearly showed his interest in aligning with that woman, in particular, among all the royalty—who had humiliated Aleriana’s mother in her younger days for petty things.
’Monsters...’
Olea stood there with her jaw clenched within the mask’s eyes, flaring as she remained static.
Her mind was in a trance, overwhelmed by the rage building inside her after hearing that her parents had been killed in a death circle illusion.
Death circles were designed to extract the souls of individuals to use them in the service of some greater art or technique, clearly revealing how her parents were most likely being used right now as energy sources.
Their souls were in agony, with no hope of further reincarnation or next life, while she was unaware of all this until now.
However, until she saw the death circle herself, she couldn’t even determine the tier of it to categorize which technique was used as a source of energy.
The stronger the death circle, the stronger the technique would be, which made her hope her parents’ souls were not being used in something corrupting or ghoul-type forbidden magic.
"He fooled me."
Finally, the one to utter the words within the silent room was the Princess.
Seated with her eyes closed and hands folded after a bit of annoyance, she focused her mind on the present, clearly seeing how he not only riled up Olea by stating the fact about her parents’ death but also did the same to her by mentioning the Queen Dowager to avoid telling her the address of Mialthara.
Yes, due to the conversation distracting her, she forgot to ask for the address, which she would just get the next day before the wedding, given that, unlike Olea, she was able to see things from a much clearer perspective.
His timing for mentioning everything was quite perfect, using his nonchalant character to direct the conversation in a completely different direction.
At the same time, it was hard to just get over it, as it appeared to her that she may have been fooled by him even though she definitely saw through his wordplay; the timing of the things he said handled the situation quite well.
Yet, she didn’t hate it; instead, she liked it even more, which boldly spoke of his character.
He was smart enough to know how to steer the flow of conversation, to change its direction in his favor while not letting others guess until the end.
With her seeing through his lies, her mind wanted to guard herself against him, while her heart fluttered.
If there had always been a battle she despised, it was the conflict between her heart and mind due to the "romantic" stories her mother had always told her about meeting her father and how they both went from a bodyguard helping the prince to becoming king and the wife of that damned king.
Those tales had taught her how she would get a very good husband and all—not that her mind believed these fantasies, given she saw how her father always remained busy with his state affairs and other wives whom he claimed were necessary for power balance in the kingdom, ignoring her mother until the day she died while always talking about a love that, to Aleriana, appeared more like one-sided.
"Olea, you need to kill him yourself."
The moment she recalled those memories, she sharply commanded Olea, her eyes snapping open, recalling her determination never to become like her mother and be used in the name of some one-sided love.

Already knowing what his words intended to do, Aleriana realized he intended to remove Olea from the palace to save himself, so she directly ordered her.
Given that he had already mentioned his awareness of her plan to get rid of him, his nonchalant words had all led to the same outcome.
Using the Queen Dowager’s name to make her forget about the address of Mialthara or using the secret behind Olea’s parents’ deaths to distract her completely, he played well and showed how dangerous it may become if she were to start loving such a cunning man.
For her, love was more like a reservation for her husband as per the promise she gave to her dying mother, and with her getting nipped in the bud before it could bloom, where she felt how badly she would be used, her determination to kill Kyle became even firmer.
His death or her lifelong one-sided misery—it was just that simple.
"I will send someone else, Princess," Olea stated straightforwardly, her face tired and open.
Sword in hand, she turned as she tried to leave the room, having no intentions except to know the truth about her parents’ deaths—something the princess also recognized as Olea’s greatest weakness.
Naturally, being an assassin renowned for her sharp mind, Olea should have seen through the manipulation of words that were too coincidental for Kyle to mention.
These words had targeted Olea’s biggest weakness—her parents’ death secret—which now allowed him to have a clear advantage with Olea not being there to kill him.
"Do it yourself, Olea. Don’t fall for his words," Aleriana urged one last time in a firm and cold tone.
Using dominance instead of a request or a deal this time.
Her eyes glared towards Olea, a rush of killing intent instantly filling the room, enough to make Olea halt as she turned.
WHOOSH
"I am not your servant."
It was instant as both their auras filled the whole room.
The visible density caused the cutlery on the table to tremble.
The walls within the room would have cracked instantly if it weren’t for Aleriana knowing the cost of those walls.
She nullified the energy emitted from Olea, both nullifying her and intimidating her with her strength.
"Why not kill him yourself then, Princess?" Olea narrowed her gaze, her head tilted slightly up, looking coldly at Aleriana, who in truth was stronger than her overall, when excluding the experience Olea had as an assassin.
It appeared that the princess was desperate to make her kill her husband.
The sheer ridicule of this situation was that the princess was strong enough to rival her but could not kill that man herself.
"Mind your words, Olea! He will be my husband!" Aleriana boasted, her energy clearly intimidating Olea.
Her rage sharpened as she glared at Olea with murderous intent.
Though both of them seemed to know their boundaries, they did not harm the nearby walls.
Knowing that the destruction of material property would cost an astronomical amount and potentially ruin their co-alliances kept them in check.
".....Then why do you want me to kill him?" Olea felt this whole situation was confusing.
