Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 553 - 551: One-Hit Kill with the Superconducting Electromagnetic Staff
Chapter 553: Chapter 551: One-Hit Kill with the Superconducting Electromagnetic Staff
"Click!"
Richard extended his hand and opened the leftmost box.
The box on the left was a small one, flat in appearance, and upon opening it, Richard was astonished to see that it contained a short wand.
Hmm, a short wand.
The short wand looked similar to the Energy Storage Magic Wand he had acquired earlier. It was as thick as a finger, thirty centimeters long, straight and stiff, slightly slender at the front and a bit more substantial towards the back.
What set it apart was that whereas the Energy Storage Magic Wand was black, this wand was blood-red, a frightening shade of red, as if it had been soaked in blood, giving off an eerie and insane aura. Its surface was engraved with intricately complex Magic Runes, suggesting a special function.
As soon as Richard picked up the Blood-red Short Magic Wand and held it, he immediately felt the Free Energy Elements in his Magic Origin stir restlessly, as if uncontrollably surging out of his body to flow into the wand.
This!
Richard’s eyes flashed, and he quickly stashed the Blood-red Magic Wand into his Space Iron Ring, only then did the Free Energy Elements in his Magic Origin start to calm down gradually.
Taking a deep breath to steady his emotions, Richard decided to study the Blood-red Short Magic Wand later. He turned his attention to the box placed in the center on the stone platform and opened it.
The middle box was large and contained nothing but Parchment Scrolls upon opening.
Picking up the top scroll, Richard gave it a cursory glance, and his eyebrows shot up in surprise when he discovered that it was all about the Blood-red Short Magic Wand.
In other words, the scroll in his hand was essentially a user manual for the Blood-red Short Magic Wand—not only did it have usage instructions, but also explanations of the principles behind it.
Some descriptions of those principles were difficult to comprehend. He read through it once and only understood some of it; yet even this partial understanding made his eyes widen.
"Perhaps... I’ve underestimated the Black Spirit Empire of the past," Richard muttered to himself.
Yes, underestimated!
At this moment, he abruptly realized that the part of the scroll he understood was discussing none other than the Electromagnetic Gun, a concept still theoretical and experimental on Earth.
Electromagnetic Gun!
An Electromagnetic Gun is, by definition, a kinetic energy weapon created using electromagnetic launch technology. Unlike traditional cannons that use the pressure of ignited Gunpowder gases to propel a Bullet, it uses the Lorentz force generated by an electromagnetic field in an electrical system to accelerate a metal projectile, greatly improving its range and power. It represents the future direction of traditional firearms.
According to theory, the Electromagnetic Gun could have a range of several hundred kilometers, and its bullet speed could reach several times the speed of sound, or even more than ten times. It’s extremely difficult to intercept, its power is formidable, and once the technology matures, the cost is lower than missiles, allowing for widespread use.
Most importantly, the Electromagnetic Gun is the most likely to be realized as a space-based weapon; its space weapon version is called a Railgun.
Hmm, a Railgun.
Imagine a half-ton Bullet being accelerated by electromagnetic coils to over ten times the speed of sound in outer space, then continuously accelerating under gravity, striking the ground with the force of a small meteorite!
It could destroy any ground defense on Earth!
Such a terrifying concept is studied by many countries on Earth, and though theoretically feasible, there are many problems in practice, so mostly it’s still experimental for most nations.
By comparison, hundreds of years before this Medieval-like era—no, even before this era—the Black Spirit Empire had already invented it, and they had miniaturized it!
That was truly astonishing!
Of course, what the Black Spirit Empire invented can’t be seen entirely as the Electromagnetic Gun of Earth, because while some of their theories might resemble Earth’s, the means of realization were entirely different.
Following Earth’s theory, an Electromagnetic Gun uses a momentary super-strong magnetic field to accelerate a projectile for attack. According to the content of the drawings, the Black Spirit Empire achieved this using Spell Effects.
To be more specific, it’s through the effect of Magic Runes—using layers of incredibly complex, stacked composite Magic Runes, allowing a short wand’s small volume to hold more Magic Runes than even large Magic Tools. The combined effects of so many Magic Runes could transform the Mana or Free Energy Elements poured into it into a highly active state—hypersensitive.
This hypersensitive Mana or Free Energy Elements possess dozens to hundreds of times more power than before, similar to accelerating a Bullet to extreme speeds, so that when it hits its target, it would release terrifying destructive force, and if used against an enemy, it would almost guarantee an instant kill!
One-Hit Kill!
This!
Richard clicked his tongue in amazement!
That was simply too horrifying; the Blood-red Wand was akin to a "One-Hit Kill" weapon. With such a weapon, Wizard Level would lose all meaning, and with successful initiative, even a Wizard Apprentice could kill a Second-level Wizard or even a Third-level Wizard. Or perhaps, an even higher existence?
Carrying these thoughts, Richard reread the scroll carefully and found the situation to be more complex than he thought.
The scroll stated that although the power of the Blood-red Wand was astonishing, its attack range was minimal, small enough to be categorized as a close-combat weapon—ineffective if the enemy was just a little further away. This was mainly because the "hypersensitive" state of the Mana or Free Energy Elements was incredibly short-lived after leaving the Short Wand, quickly dissipating, so it could only have a One-Hit Kill effect if the enemy were in very close proximity.
Furthermore, even though the Blood-red Short Magic Wand had a great power amplification effect, it still required the user to provide an initial amount of Mana or Free Energy Elements. And because of the Magic Rune’s effect on the Blood-red Short Magic Wand, there could be some impact on the user’s Magic Origin; overuse could potentially cause irreversible damage.
Overall, the Blood-red Short Magic Wand was powerful, but its severe side effects and critical conditions for it to work made it complex.
Richard nodded, feeling this was fairly reasonable—unrestricted One-Hit Kills were just too overpowered; a single person could decimate a world. If the Black Spirit Empire really had such things, how could they have fallen?
In his view, the Blood-red Short Magic Wand he had stowed in the Space Iron Ring was somewhat akin to a Shotgun on Earth, or like the "Sprayer" in some games. Considering the wand’s short length, it was probably like a sawed-off version—that type could almost be invincible in close combat, where successfully hitting an enemy could almost guarantee a direct hit and instant dispatch. Conversely, once the fight distanced, the effects would be negligible.
Thus, the Blood-red Short Magic Wand and the Magic Gun he developed were both highly restricted tools.
With this thought in mind, Richard began to review the other Parchment Scrolls.
