Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 1414 - 1412: Crimson
"Boom!"
Rayan had just slid a few meters away when a pillar of fire as thick as a barrel emerged from the spot.
The fire column disappeared in less than a second, but the residual heat in the air still made the surrounding temperature astounding. In the hall, wooden items close by began to warp, and some started emitting bluish smoke.
With a solemn expression, Rayan looked back and saw Keen, who had clearly been frozen into an ice sculpture, reappear unharmed, wielding a wand over thirty centimeters long, pointing at him.
"Was that just now..." Rayan murmured in confusion, speaking out loud.
"Magic Substitute," Keen explained. As the words fell, there was a "whoosh," and purple-red flames shot from the tip of the wand like a flamethrower, attacking Rayan.
Rayan quickly raised both hands, releasing cold air to try and block the flaming attack.
But the power of the flames was evidently stronger than before, forcing Rayan to retreat step by step, while some stray flames flew out, clinging to various parts of the hall and burning like viscous liquid.
In just a short while, many chairs in the hall were ignited, broken, flying out, or dropped to the ground with the judge’s gavel’s top stained with flames, becoming a fireball.
Other flames floated further away, heading towards the onlookers.
By this time, most of the audience had fled, with only a few hiding in corners and watching, such as Ma Qiu held by Donna.
"Whizz!"
A wisp of fire seemed slow but was actually quite fast, flying like an arrow towards Ma Qiu’s head. Ma Qiu stared in shock, his mind blank.
Fortunately, Donna reacted in time, pulling Ma Qiu down just before the flames could hit him, allowing him to escape disaster.
After dodging the flames, Ma Qiu came back to his senses, panting heavily, looking at Donna with a somewhat trembling voice, "Junior, this place is really too dangerous, it’s a battle between wizards. Although it satisfies curiosity, saving our lives is more important. We should go back to school." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Senior, please watch for one more minute with me, just one minute, please," Donna pleaded, gazing at Ma Qiu with large eyes.
Ma Qiu: "..." His body shivered, and the firm thought of leaving became inexplicably confused.
...
"What do you want to do!"
On the other side of the battle, Rayan glanced at the flames flying about and glared, speaking out to Keen, "You don’t control the range of your magic power at all, are you deliberately trying to destroy this hall, burn down this building? Moreover, you completely disregard whether it will harm ordinary people, aren’t you afraid the other wizards will question your morals?"
"Humph, only the weak and powerless talk about morals, the strong only talk about victory and defeat," Keen replied sharply, staring at Rayan, "I advise you to care more about yourself. Once you can withstand my attacks, then talk about other things. Otherwise, this place will be your grave. Come to think of it, you won’t be too wronged if that’s the case. After all, these buildings are quite grand, and there are plenty of court staff and fearless spectators to accompany you!"
As the words fell, Keen shook his wand, and the flames shot from its end surged violently, becoming even more fierce and scorching. The cold air Rayan released was rapidly countered, gradually only able to shield an area of several centimeters in front of him.
By this time, the flames dispersed by Keen’s magic had set nearly half the hall ablaze, filling it with billowing smoke.
Rayan gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, urging his internal energy, trying to counterattack.
But Keen was quicker. With a low shout, the firepower from his wand increased further. At the same time, he reached out with his other hand, a dark purple fireball appeared in his palm. He tossed the fireball, and it expanded rapidly in the air, going from grape-sized, to apple-sized, then to basin-sized, and eventually reaching table-sized.
The surface of the fireball undulated constantly, and it seemed on the verge of exploding in the next moment.
The cold air in front of Rayan was now just a thin layer, his brows knitted tightly.
A few court security officers wanted to help, but their strength was too inferior, unable to get close, anxiously standing on the sidelines, watching the expanding purple fireball and trying to find cover.
Keen’s few subordinates were also unable to get close. Although Keen had the advantage in the battle, making them relatively at ease, they still searched for cover to avoid the explosion — after all, magic doesn’t automatically differentiate between friend and foe.
The remaining spectators were Ma Qiu and Donna. Ma Qiu was utterly stunned, watching the expanding purple fireball, not knowing what to do, or even if he did know, it was too late now. He had already predicted the explosion of the purple fireball was enough to kill him ten times. He deeply regretted not insisting on forcibly taking Donna away earlier.
Donna appeared relatively calm, stealing a glance at Rayan and Keen, just about to determine victory and defeat, she pursed her lips, grabbed Ma Qiu, and dashed towards the hall exit. A faint blue light emerged under her feet, making her movements extremely agile.
Judge Adam did not run for the exit of the hall but continued standing persistently behind the judge’s table. Flames flared up in many places around him, heat and smoke surged, sweat seeping from his face, one corner of his judge’s robe even singed.
The purple fireball was directly in front of him, so much so that he could clearly see the reflection of the fireball in his eyes. He was not afraid, merely turned his head to glance at the side before turning back. His expression was resolute, seemingly ready to coexist and perish with this courtroom hall.
And the direction he had looked towards revealed his teacher — the Supreme Judge with a head full of white hair, standing at the entrance to the judge’s path, holding a copy of the "Shalin Security Law," which had not moved an inch compared to earlier. His expression was calmer than Adam’s, eyes narrowed slightly, unknown thoughts running through his mind.
All these performances were gathered by Keen’s eyes — he was strong enough to notice all these situations amidst the battle.
After seeing them, he snorted coldly, but a plan formed in his mind.
In his view, his previous probing trip to Shalin was going more smoothly than planned. So far, no one outside the court had come to stop him, indicating Shalin’s attitude wasn’t as tough as imagined, the "Independent Kingdom" that Shalin represents, ultimately dared not truly declare independence, daren’t openly defy the Alliance’s authority!
Speaking of which, his trip to Shalin this time had been meticulously planned for a long time. Leonard and other subordinates were carefully selected and given specific instructions to allow them to act as chess pieces, achieving the desired effect.
If necessary, he could even be a chess piece sacrificing his own life to complete this test, making it clear to the Alliance and the newly crowned king the real situation in Shalin.
However, as it turns out, it seemed unnecessary.
Shalin wasn’t as "dangerous" as imagined.
With these thoughts in mind, Keen smiled confidently, clenching his hand vigorously.
The expanding purple fireball flashed, reaching the brink of explosion.
Facing off against Keen, Rayan’s eyes widened, wanting to stop it but powerless. He was a third-level Wizard, already considered a strong wizard, yet feeling Keen was stronger, hadn’t even exerted full strength yet. In this battle, he was unlikely to change anything, at most to protect himself.
Keen’s subordinates leaped behind their cover, preparing for the powerful energy explosion.
Court security officers also found cover to hide, signaling Judge Adam to brace for the explosion.
Judge Adam seemed not to see it, standing straight behind the judge’s table, striving to follow the rules of conduct he learned while studying.
Judge Adam’s teacher was also unmoved from his spot.
Donna tugged Ma Qiu, sprinting towards the exit, a bright blue glow underfoot constantly increasing speed.
But just as they were about to rush out, Donna seemed to have noticed something, her movements halted, eyes flashing. Then she pulled Ma Qiu, stopping their steps and diving to the side.
"Swish!"
At the very moment they dove, a thick blood-red beam flew in from outside the hall’s exit, erupting, releasing an almost endless stream of blood energy.
"Puff!"
Instantly, the hall was bathed in blood red, as if a world of blood had descended, or like a red carpet enveloped over the chaotic scene within the hall.
Suddenly, a deathly silence enveloped the senses.
