Chapter 31: Ch-31: Test

Victor entered the building and was amazed by the vast interior, which was far larger than it appeared from the outside.

He looked around and saw Awakeners waiting patiently in a line, with looks of excitement and anticipation in their eyes.

Within a few days after the formation of the Awakeners Association was announced, over 100,000 newly awakened individuals from New York City alone had registered as Awakeners, with less than 1 percent of them also joining the Awakeners Association. Victor was not surprised, as many still harbored doubts about the government.

After joining the Awakeners’ Association, the Awakeners are given a special badge, and if they want a job, then they are assigned to a certain location in the city where they will be working—almost like actual police, but with higher pay and more authority.

As for the number of Awakeners who had registered at the Awakeners’ Association worldwide, it reached 10 million people in less than a month, and more people were still joining.

About half an hour later, Victor reached the front of the line.

"Next!"

Finally, it was Victor’s turn as he walked in front of the reception and was greeted by a beautiful young woman.

"Hand me your required documents," the young lady was startled by seeing Victor’s handsome face but managed to maintain her professional demeanor as she asked him.

"Sure," Victor said as he handed over the required documents.

For the next moment, the young lady inputted all his information into the computer and then handed him a slip.

"Go to the auditorium. There will be someone who will test whether you really are an Awakener or not, and then another person will assign your rank," the woman said, as Victor raised an eyebrow.

"You are testing if someone is an Awakener or not?" Victor asked, surprised.

The woman looked at Victor and sneered, "You would be surprised how many people have come here to register and got caught because they are not Awakeners. The fame and benefits of registering as an Awakener are too lucrative for people not to lie."

"So what happens to pretenders after they are caught?" Victor asked curiously.

"Heh, you don’t want to know. And I hope you are not faking it—I wouldn’t want a handsome guy like you to meet a miserable fate," the woman said with a cold smile, which caused Victor to swallow nervously.

Victor did not say anything and walked toward the auditorium, where a group of people were facing another person wearing the uniform of the Awakeners’ Association.

"Hey, are you here for the evaluation?" Victor looked as a bulky man wearing the uniform walked toward him.

"Yes, I am," Victor said calmly as he handed him the slip he had received.

"Good, follow me," the bulky man nodded, and Victor followed him toward an arena.

Victor’s eyes widened and then he shook his head as a smile appeared on his face. What a coincidence to run into them again.

Victor looked at the instructor who was sparring against a beautiful woman with a wooden sword.

"Go, Olivia!" Victor looked in the direction of the sound and saw Andrew and Rachel cheering for Olivia, who was covered in sweat as she was slowly suppressing the examiner. Not only them, but many in the crowd were cheering for Olivia, much to the instructor’s displeasure, but it couldn’t be helped—compared to a middle-aged man, a cold beauty like Olivia was far more popular. Victor watched calmly as she used all kinds of sword skills.

Bang!

After ten more minutes, the sword in the instructor’s hands flew out, and he raised his hand in defeat. "You win, I yield."

"Great, Olivia, I knew you could do it," Rachel said with a smile, to which Olivia just nodded.

"Alright, it’s your turn. Pick a wooden weapon from the rack, and you will pass if you can defeat me or defend against my blows for 10 minutes," the bulky man said as he picked a wooden warhammer from the rack. Victor walked calmly and picked a wooden sword from the rack.

As Victor walked onto the stage, his appearance caught everyone’s attention.

"Heavens, what a handsome man!"

"Is he a model or a Hollywood star?"

"I don’t think so. If he were, with those looks he would be insanely famous."

"Even if he is not an Awakener, there are many recruiters—even from Hollywood—I’m sure they would be interested in him."

Victor, who heard the conversation, raised an eyebrow when he saw that there were many recruiters from different companies. He even noticed many clothing and cosmetics brands and even Hollywood studios who were looking at him with a gleam in their eyes.

Since Awakeners started appearing, many noticed that in terms of looks, most Awakeners rival top-tier Hollywood stars, and that’s why many recruiters were here to scout them, even if they were not talented in combat.

"First, before we use weapons, let’s have a spar with just our fists. What do you say?" the instructor asked.

"Sure," Victor replied and thought, If he knew my ridiculous stats, would he dare ask this?

He could sense the level of the examiner, and he was weak...

Olivia, on the other hand, who had just wiped her sweat with a towel, looked at Victor with a frown and thought, Where have I seen him? He seems familiar.

"Hey, Olivia, let’s go and get our ranking," Rachel said, then looked at Olivia, who was staring at Victor. A sly look appeared on her face.

"Heh, Olivia, I know he is handsome, but I didn’t expect the cold beauty to have a crush," Rachel said.

Hearing this, Olivia calmly looked at Rachel and said coldly, "In your dreams. I just feel he looks a bit familiar."

"Oh," Rachel, hearing this, also looked at Victor.

"Hah!" the instructor shouted as he threw a punch at Victor’s head, which Victor calmly blocked with his hand.

’Ugh, it feels like I hit a steel wall. He must have insane defense’ the instructor’s eyes widened when he felt a sharp pain in his knuckles. He had a look of disbelief, as he could easily punch a hole in a steel wall.

Suddenly, he felt a chill run down his spine when he saw a fist flying straight toward him. Out of instinct, he quickly drew a sword from his waist, which he got from the game, and immediately used it to block the fist.

Crack!

"What? Impossible!" To his horror, the sword snapped in two, and he felt a sharp pain in his stomach and coughed a mouthful of blood as he flew across the stage and collided with a wall.
