Chapter 809: Chapter 843-844: The Knocking at the Door

He laughed, and his laughter reached her ears. She turned her head and met his alluring eyes, so gentle, yet so captivating. "Alright, I’ll wait," he said softly to her, "No matter how much time you need, I’ll wait."

Waiting for her to be willing to marry him again!

The two were eating hot pot together, watching the news program on TV, and once again came across the news about turbulent undercurrents at the border. It said both sides were strengthening their defenses, and future bilateral trade might face some upheavals.

Mabel Quinn turned to Kyle Kinston and said, "Wasn’t it all discussed last time?"

"It was only a preliminary discussion, temporarily concluded. But that area is not stable, and the current situation is expected. Often, benefits come with risks," he said, unable to elaborate further, as that would be classified information. Mabel Quinn obviously understood this principle and didn’t ask further questions.

After finishing the hot pot, Kyle Kinston took the initiative to wash the dishes, while Mabel Quinn tidied up the house. Then, they sat on the sofa in the living room, watching the prime time drama.

Very simple and plain, yet it made Mabel Quinn feel warm.

Perhaps the life she wanted was like this, not needing to be very rich or exciting, but just the two of them living together.

Halfway through an episode, there was a knock on the door. Mabel Quinn got up, intending to go open the door, her hand already on the doorknob, when Kyle Kinston suddenly held her hand, saying, "Don’t open it."

She looked at him in surprise, and found his eyes were looking through the peephole at the outside.

"What’s wrong? Who’s outside?" she asked.

He looked down at her and said, "It’s Daniel Harris."

She hesitated, and he gently pulled her hand away from the doorknob, "Don’t go to open the door, Mabel, please..."

"But..." She couldn’t just leave Daniel Harris outside, could she? She could open the door and explain to Daniel Harris.

There were a few more knocks on the door from outside.

Mabel Quinn said, "No matter what, let’s open the door for a bit."

"If he’s here just to see you a few more times, would you still open the door?" he asked.

"Ah?" She hesitated, "Then I could open the door and explain to him."

Suddenly, her phone’s ringtone went off. He took out the phone from her shirt pocket and said to her, "Why not explain to him now."

Mabel Quinn looked at the caller ID on the phone, surprised to see Daniel Harris’s name. So she took the phone and pressed the call button.

Daniel Harris’s voice came through, "Mabel, are you home? I’m outside your house, I see light coming from inside, but no one is answering the door."

"Yes, I’m home," Mabel Quinn said, "Daniel Harris, I’m not answering because there’s someone else at my place, and there’s something I want to tell you..."

She had just said half of her words when Kyle Kinston suddenly kissed her cheek, causing Mabel Quinn to tremble all over, and her phone almost fell to the ground.

"What do you want to tell me?" Daniel Harris asked.

"Tell..." Mabel Quinn trembled, as Kyle Kinston held her waist with one hand.

"Mabel, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you talking?" Her silence made Daniel Harris’s voice a bit anxious.

"No...nothing...sorry...I...I still have some matters right now, if there are any issues...let’s talk another day." Mabel Quinn said hurriedly, then hung up the phone, looking at Kyle Kinston with a flushed face.

"You...you did it on purpose." She questioned him with a blush.

"Mmm." He answered quite straightforwardly.

"But if you do this..."

"Just making him understand who you love," he chuckled, "Don’t you want him to realize sooner?"

"But it can’t be like this," Mabel Quinn said, "I can explain to Daniel Harris!"

"Sometimes saying more isn’t as effective as actions," Kyle Kinston said.

Mabel Quinn suddenly felt that when Kyle Kinston started talking logically, she could never out-talk him.

And at that moment, Daniel Harris, standing outside, looked fixedly at his phone in his hand, then at the sliver of light seeping through the door crack, a touch of sadness flashing in his eyes.

His hand tightly grasped the phone in his hand, and finally, he turned and left.

On the next day, Daniel Harris received a call from Mabel Quinn, saying she wanted to meet him for a talk.

"Okay," was his answer to her.

Then he went to the place they had agreed upon, which was a KFC restaurant. She sat in a corner seat and gestured toward him.

"Why did you choose here to meet me?" Daniel Harris asked after sitting down.

"Because I thought of what you said before, back then you said if you ever came to J City, I’d treat you to KFC." She said, though she didn’t expect this statement would only have a chance to be realized so many years later. "What would you like to eat?" she asked.

"Anything," Daniel Harris replied. "I’ll go buy it, what do you want to eat?"

"Let me do it," Mabel Quinn said, "Let me treat you this time, consider it fulfilling the words I said back then."

So he didn’t get up, and she walked over to the order counter.

He watched her figure, suddenly feeling a sense of sorrow. He could somewhat guess her purpose in inviting him today, yet he desperately hoped he was wrong, that it wasn’t for that reason.

Mabel Quinn came back with a tray of food and two drinks.

"The coffee here isn’t as good as in your office," she said, placing the coffee in front of him, while she had a cup of juice.
