Chapter 810: Chapter 845: Her Metaphor

"Did Kyle Kinston know that you invited me out today?" he asked.

"He knows." she replied, recalling last night when she told Kyle she would invite Daniel Harris out to share the news of their reconciliation, as she didn’t want Daniel to wait aimlessly.

"What did he say upon finding out? Is he okay with you meeting me alone? Given his personality, I’d think he would insist on coming along, right?" Daniel Harris said. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Spot on! Mabel Quinn couldn’t help but admire Daniel Harris’s insight—Kyle indeed wanted to accompany her but relented due to her insistence.

"Today, I wanted to meet you, so I came alone." Mabel Quinn said, eating her chicken nugget, and continued to Daniel Harris, "Do you remember how I described these chicken nuggets back then, saying they’re heavenly and unmatched on earth?"

"I remember." Thinking back to her exaggerated description of this "earthly delicacy," a faint smile appeared on his lips.

"Did you come to eat them afterward?" she asked.

"I’ve come to eat them a few times." he replied, recalling how he would visit here for food when he first arrived in J City, as he missed her.

But after meeting Grace Yowell, he mistakenly believed he had truly found her, leading to... subsequent missed opportunities.

"What used to taste great now feels pretty ordinary." Mabel Quinn said, "Back then, when I first tasted this kind of fried chicken, I found it amazing and delicious. Prices weren’t as typical back then; my dad would take me out to eat it two to three times a month, often only if I did exceptionally well on exams."

Reflecting, Mabel Quinn said, "Back then, I thought this was the best-tasting food in the world." She paused and looked at Daniel Harris, "But sometimes, it was just because there were fewer choices back then. I hadn’t tasted these chicken nuggets before—they were new. Growing up, looking back, I realized the taste wasn’t all that special, not something I would specifically crave."

Daniel Harris gazed intently at the person in front of him, "What are you trying to say?"

"Perhaps, for you, I’m like KFC’s chicken nuggets. Maybe back then, in Drumbeat Village, you were lonely for too long, and I happened to appear. Later, you left for the unfamiliar J City, and I became a kind of spiritual solace for you, seemingly wonderful. But... like these chicken nuggets, deliciousness was merely perceived. Now, eating them again lacks that ’delicious’ feeling, and you realize there are far better-tasting things in the world than chicken nuggets."

Daniel Harris suddenly laughed, yet the smile carried a hint of self-mockery, "So you’re suggesting that the reason I found you great, fell in love, was simply because I didn’t have many kind people around back then? Because I took you as a spiritual solace, and if I were with you now, that wonderful feeling wouldn’t be there anymore?"

She bit her lip slightly, "That’s about right."

"Mabel, are you trying to console me? Or do you want me to feel that you aren’t as wonderful and that there are many women better and more suited for me than you?" he asked.
