Chapter 227: Chapter 236: Falling into the Water

Daniel Harris looked up and gave Mabel Quinn a fleeting glance, "I heard you didn’t go to work yesterday. What, were you so lovey-dovey with your Mr. Kinston that you didn’t even want to go to work?"

Mabel was dumbfounded, completely unprepared for the sudden mention of "Mr. Kinston" from his mouth; for a moment, she just stared blankly at Daniel Harris.

Her silence, to him, was an admission.

For some unexplainable reason, his mood seemed to grow even more irritable, and even the strokes of the brush in his hand were unconsciously becoming heavier.

"Is Kyle Kinston the boyfriend you’re talking about?" Daniel Harris’s voice shattered the current silence.

Mabel finally snapped back to reality momentarily and replied, "How did you know?" She hadn’t intentionally hidden her relationship with Kyle Kinston, but she didn’t want everyone to know either; there was no need to become a spectacle.

"Do you think it’s that hard for people to find out?" he countered.

She froze.

"Why are you with Kyle Kinston?" he suddenly asked, "Is it for Money? Or did Kyle Kinston promise you something?"

"Because I like him," Mabel answered.

"It’s that simple?" The feeling of irritability in his chest was growing heavier.

"How complicated should it be then?" Mabel chuckled lightly, "Isn’t it the most normal thing to like someone and then date them? Or do I seem like the kind of woman who needs some additional terms to date someone?"

Admittedly, when he mentioned Money and conditions, it made her feel a bit uncomfortable.

She thought that after so many interactions, he had at least somewhat regarded her as a friend, but perhaps that wasn’t the case at all.

"A man like Kyle Kinston isn’t one to easily open his heart to a woman. How much emotion do you think he really has for you?" Daniel Harris challenged.

"No matter how much, at least I know he’s serious and not just playing around with me," Mabel said, and she would strive to make Kyle genuinely fall in love with her.

The faint smile on her lips, full of trust in Kyle Kinston, also felt glaring to him.

Suddenly, he put down the sketchbook and pencil in his hand, stood up, "Sit here for a while, I’ll go set these documents aside." With that, he took the file folder and left.

And so, by the poolside, only Mabel Quinn and the big yellow dog were left.

Mabel’s gaze unconsciously fell on the sketchbook Daniel had left on the small round table. He hadn’t closed it, so at the moment, Mabel could see what he had been drawing. He had sketched what looked like a girl of about nine or ten years old with a ponytail, wearing a simple T-shirt and skirt, but the girl’s features hadn’t been drawn yet; obviously, the sketch wasn’t complete.

Who was this little girl to him? Mabel was pondering when she suddenly heard a splash.

She turned her head and saw that the big yellow dog had fallen into the swimming pool.

Without thinking, Mabel kicked off her shoes and dove headfirst into the pool, trying to rescue the big yellow dog.

Just as she was desperately swimming towards the dog, she heard a middle-aged male voice ring out, "Mabel Quinn, what are you doing?" freewebnσvel.cѳm
