Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 384: Light in the darkness
After treating Medusa's shallow wounds and picking up the entity level flux orbs, the group left the east district in a hurry. If what Sam told them was the truth, skinwalkers were in control of that district and they couldn't afford an all out fight to break in the middle of the day.
Mary took off to her sister's appartment without saying a word, but the long legged huntress decided to follow the Dungeon Raiders to their headquarters because she didn't feel safe in the east district anymore.
It took some convincing, but in the end Uriel let her come with them in exchange for becoming a poorly paid employee, which was the only kind of employment he could provide at the moment. It may have sounded like extorsion, because it was, but it was also a cheap price to pay for safety in the current times.
In spite of Luna's orders, Medusa refused to go to rest and was set on speaking to Uriel, Nika and Luna since claiming it couldn't wait. Especially afterthey told her that Sam showed up with a copy of hers that, somehow, wasn't allergic to silver.
"I can't explain how did they do it, but I know the reason why they did it. I also know the reason why Sam founded the Fallen corporation," Medusa began speaking once everyone was sat at their meeting room. "Sam is not our friend anymore. I don't know what happened to him, but he's changed."
"You know exactly what happened to him." Uriel shrugged.
"No, it's not just Water warlock... there must be something else. You have no idea of the things he's planned."
"You make it sound like he's an evil mastermind, but he's built hospitals, public kitchens, even schools! I don't even know where did he get all his money, but he's making us look bad. Even the government won't make deals with us anyore and our assets are frozen." Nika sighed with a dejected expression.
"There's also a reason for that. He took control of the cryptids that infiltrated our city and divided the districts among them, esentially turning them into feeding grounds. That's why he wants to keep people happy, because he needs them to be healthy, strong even, since it seems that killing stronger hunters provide the cryptids with more energy."
"Uhm, that's correct. I haven't confirmed this yet, but I think that's the reason why entity level cryptids show little to no interest in killing regular humans." Luna added.
"Yeah, but that still doesn't explain his motives! Why is he siding up with the cryptids. I know Sam can be a bit of a jerk, but that's going a bit too far."

Everyone fell silent trying to make sense of Sam's actions. Even if Uriel was cold and sometimes a bit evil when he was under Water warlock's influence, he never acted against humanity.
"I think I know what he wants to do, but I'm not sure the reason why he's doing it." Uriel said, leaving everyone curious.
"So, you're not going to tell us?" Nika asked clearly annoyed.
"It's not that I don't want to say it, it's that just thinking Sam would be capable of something like this, hurts."
"Get to the point..." Luna said.
"You're one to talk." Medusa chuckled, earning a disapproving glare from Nika. It took Nika a while, but once she became comfortable with the idea of Luna being a cryptid, she also became even more protective of her.
"I think he's trying to turn this megacity into a dungeon. The dungeon of the Alamo was dead long before we discovered it, that's why the Air spirit people couldn't breed in there and that's also the reason why they moved to the dungeon on Easter island."
"What's the difference between a dead dungeon and an alive one?" Luna asked.
"I already said it's just a theory, but I think the difference is the presence of a titan level cryptid inside."
"A titan level cryptid!?" They all gasped.
"Yes, the reason why I think so is because we already encountered the cryptid that used to function as the dungeon heart in The Alamo, but now it's roaming free."
"You don't mean..."
"Exactly, the gigantic creature that blocked our evacuation route during our first incursion. That was a titan level cryptid and I think he's trying to turn this megacity into that thing's nest."
"That doesn't sound good... I never saw it, Sam described it as 'beyond terrifying', but I never thought much about it because Sam was... well, he was a coward." Medusa said scratching her cheek awkwardly.
"I tried many times to, uhm... convince him to describe it in detail, but he never budged."
"I don't have the slightest idea of what the heck you're all talking about, all I want to know is what are we going to do about it?" Nika stomped her hands on the table.
"Isn't it obvious?" Medusa took a pause to look all her trusted friends in the eye, then she stood up and continued speaking with conviction. "We are going to fight off the cryptids and save the people of this city. Even if they never acknowledge our deeds, even if we don't get a reward and the hunters and corporations turn against us, our duty is to save everyone."
Medusa's words carried all of her honest convictions and she elegantly phrased it to rally the heroes to defend the Megacity of Texas from the invading forces that infiltrated the city, but...
"I won't move a finger if I'm not paid." Nika replied blatantly.
"Uhm, no thanks... I'll go pack my bags."
"Yeah, I don't think I'm up for that either. Best case scenario, we don't die but don't accomplish anything. Worst case... I don't even want to think about it."
"But, guys..." Medusa looked down, she wasn't willing to give up just yet, but she couldn't think of any way to convince them to stay in a city that might be on the verge of becoming a lost city.
