Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1453 - 1391: Resentment
It took about the time of two cups of tea before Old Madam Wu and the others saw the tardy arrival of Madam Zhou and her daughter.
Wufu supported Madam Zhou, who was wearing a water-red robe with a vermilion hairpin in her hair, as she walked over. Her face was rosy, her expression gentle and soft, and her demeanor excellent.
"Meiniang." Upon seeing her, Wu Lihong couldn’t help but stand up with eager excitement.
Madam Zhou’s steps paused, and she looked at him with a complex gaze, instinctively touching her abdomen and sighing softly. However, the corner of her eye caught sight of the woman beside him, and her lips tightened.
The moment Wu Lihong called Madam Zhou’s name, Madam Wang’s hand, hidden in her sleeve, clenched tightly as she looked at her.
It was her first time seeing Madam Zhou, who was not dressed extravagantly but appeared gentle and dignified. Her clothes were of high quality, and her jewelry was exquisite. Because of her pregnancy, her figure was plump and her complexion rosy, exuding peace.
If it weren’t for the occasional trace of sighing resentment at the corner of her eyebrows, Madam Wang would have thought this was a woman with no worries, living an extremely content life.
One could tell if a person was doing well by looking at her face. This Madam Zhou seemed slightly resentful at the corner of her brows, but her complexion was rosy, and her demeanor gentle, living far more comfortably than Madam Wang.
Madam Wang’s nails dug tightly into her palms, knowing without a mirror that her face was filled with hostility, and even if dressed in opulence, she appeared full of worry and bitterness to outsiders.
In less than half a year, her peaceful life had been turned upside down, all because of this mother and daughter in front of her. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Endless resentment surged toward Madam Wang like a tide as she looked at Madam Zhou with eyes full of malice and jealousy.
Why should she live in misery while a worthless woman lived far more happily than she did?
Madam Wang bit her lip and suddenly sensed a cold and sharp gaze. She looked over to see Wufu staring at her with a cold face, that gaze sharp and with a clear warning.
Madam Wang’s heart trembled, and she quickly lowered her head.
"Meiniang." Wu Lihong walked up to Madam Zhou, intending to reach out to support her.
Wufu intercepted with a hand, giving him a calm glance.
Madam Zhou said, "You can sit and speak."
Her tone was calm and gentle, but in Wu Lihong’s ears, it was inexplicably chilling. Why was that?
Wufu helped Madam Zhou to the main seat, standing beside her, while Mo Lan and the others stood not far behind.
Old Madam Wu watched, feeling utterly uncomfortable.
As the Old Madam of the Wu Family, she was the one who usually sat in the main seat, with the younger generation fawning over her, constantly flattering her to make her happy.
Never had she thought that she would one day need to lower herself and endure silently because of a woman of her son’s, even having to give way.
Old Madam Wu also harbored a bellyful of anger, but it was inappropriate to act out. She could only tightly press her lips, breathing in and out to try to calm down quickly.
"Everyone’s here, let’s begin. Lord Wu, what’s your purpose in coming here this time?" Wufu said indifferently.
Wu Lihong glared at her. Lord Wu, did she really think so little of him? He was her biological father!
He decided not to look at Wufu; otherwise, he might be infuriated to death by this rebellious daughter.
Thinking this, Wu Lihong bypassed her, looking deeply at Madam Zhou, and said, "Meiniang, tomorrow is Mid-Autumn Festival. We specifically came to take you back home for a family reunion. I was wrong before. Please come back with me!"
