Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1354 - 1352: Visit from Friends
Regardless of the swirling rumors outside, Wufu chose to live behind closed doors without paying any heed, ensuring that no words from outside reached Madam Zhou.
It was a bit of a surprise for Wufu to suddenly hear about the visit from her two friends, so she personally went to the second gate to welcome them in.
"Why have you both come together?" Upon seeing the two, Wufu smiled.
"I was planning to visit you, and it just so happened that Zhao Min came to find me, so we came together," Guan Chuying said with a smile.
Changping remarked, "What, are you not welcoming us or what?"
"How dare I not welcome such esteemed guests as the Commandery Princess?" Wufu said with a smile.
"Wufu, I heard your mother is here? We juniors should first pay respects and greet the elder," said Guan Chuying.
Wufu then told Purple Jade, "Please inform my mother that I’m bringing two friends to pay her a visit."
Purple Jade responded with a smile and quickly went to report.
Madam Zhou was a bit caught off guard upon hearing that Wufu’s friends had come to pay respects, especially considering one was a Commandery Princess. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
It was Nanny Cheng who quickly reminded her to change clothes and prepare gifts for the meeting. Knowing who they were, the preparations were certainly fine items.
Sitting in the Floral Hall, Wufu led in two graceful young women. Madam Zhou adjusted her posture slightly, observing the two as they approached her with dignified and elegant manners, and without any sway of their skirts as they walked. She couldn’t help but quietly admire, "These are indeed daughters of noble families."
"Mother, these are two friends I made in the capital. This is Princess Changping, Zhao Min, the daughter of Prince Jingkang, and this is Guan Chuying, the cherished daughter of Lord Guan, the Left Imperial Censorate," Wufu introduced her friends.
"This girl pays respects to Madam and wishes you health and happiness," said Changping and Guan Chuying, gracefully bowing.
"Oh, no need, please rise quickly," Madam Zhou, somewhat flustered, wanted to get up to personally help them stand, but Nanny Cheng gently held her arm and she simply raised her hand while still sitting.
When they stood up, Madam Zhou thought for a moment and beckoned them closer, taking a good look at their faces, she praised, "Such beauty. Wufu is lively, and to befriend you, I imagine you’ve taken good care of her."
"Madam, please don’t say that, in fact, it’s Wufu who takes care of us," Guan Chuying replied with a smile.
"Wufu even saved me!" added Changping.
Madam Zhou then sent the meeting gifts from the large tray carried by Qiu Xiang: a delicate pendant for Guan Chuying and an Eight Treasures Bracelet for Changping. She said, "Commandery Princess, Miss Guan, I come from Huayang and have little knowledge, these little trinkets are not worth much, but feel free to wear them for fun."
"Thank you, Madam. Please call me Chuying," said Guan Chuying with a smile, and Changping was quick to express her gratitude as well.
It was Madam Zhou’s first time meeting young women of such noble status, and feeling a bit out of place, she exchanged a few words with them before letting Wufu lead them to her room for a chat.
Once they had left, Madam Zhou exhaled a long breath and said, "What a nerve-wracking experience that was. These two young ladies truly possess an air of nobility."
"Madam handled it well. In the future, just continue this way. Dignity comes from oneself and one’s children. I hear the young mistress is a disciple of Old Mr. Meng, and the Meng family is truly a heritage of literary excellence, paying utmost attention to manners and etiquette. If Madam and the young mistress develop their own standing, there will be more occasions to meet such figures, so you must gradually hold your ground," Nanny Cheng said calmly.
Madam Zhou paused, lowering her head slightly in contemplation.
