Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1355 - 1353: Preparing to Pull Some Tricks
Wufu led her two friends to her room and asked the maid to serve sweet soup and melons. They all sat talking on the beauty couch in the East Side Room.
"This melon is so sweet. It was grown on your estate, right? You sent some over a few days ago, and my mother enjoyed it very much as well," Guan Chuying said, taking small bites of the melon with a silver fork, her eyes smiling.
Wufu nodded, "Yes, during this hot summer, the melon and fruit are the sweetest and most delicious." She then instructed Purple Jade, who stood waiting by her side, "Go ask Shui Jing to steam two trays of mint and lotus seed cakes so the Commandery Princess and her can try them."
Purple Jade smiled and curtsied.
"I have a maid here whose pastry-making skills are particularly good. You should try some later," Wufu said with a smile.
Guan Chuying replied, "Then we are in for a treat!"
After finishing a piece of melon, Changping held her tea and looked at Wufu, hesitating to speak.
"What is it? Do you have something to say?" Wufu raised an eyebrow.
"Wufu, have you heard the rumors outside?" Changping asked cautiously.
Wufu responded, "You’ve heard such rumors, yet you still dare to come find me?"
"What are you saying? Aren’t we good friends? How can we avoid seeing each other over some idle gossip? What would that say about us?" Guan Chuying chided.
"Exactly, Wufu, no matter what, you are my friend," Changping nodded fervently like a little chick pecking at rice.
Wufu felt warmth in her heart and said, "Thank you both!"
Guan Chuying thought for a moment and asked, "Wufu, don’t take this the wrong way, but what do you plan to do now? You can’t just let things drag on like this, especially since the young master of the Wu Family has come to make trouble. What about the future?"
"I understand," Wufu thought for a moment and then said, "In fact, the status of my mother and I is indeed somewhat awkward. We are said to be a concubine, but Lord Wu clearly signed a marriage certificate with my mother back then, yet later he married someone else. This... sigh!"
"What?" Guan Chuying and Changping exchanged a glance and hurriedly asked, "Lord Wu signed a marriage certificate with your mother?"
Wufu nodded and said, "I have already taken the marriage certificate to inquire at the relevant Yamen, and it is indeed authentic. My mother kept it with her all these years, and she considered herself his wife because of it. Who would have thought..."
"That’s just unbelievable. If you have the marriage certificate in hand, even without a formal ceremony, your mother is indeed Lord Wu’s legal wife," Guan Chuying said, frowning. "After all, a marriage certificate is not something that can be given lightly. Once it’s given, the two families are officially in-laws. If the marriage does not go through, the certificate must be returned to signify a broken engagement."
"Isn’t that so," Wufu said. "But my mother didn’t know, and she has been waiting all these years, only to find that... no matter what, it’s a fact that Lord Wu remarried."
"Isn’t that deception in marriage?" Changping said with a frown, "Lord Wu is an official of the Ministry of Rites, how could he not know this?"
"He might have just forgotten!" Wufu laughed.
Guan Chuying snorted, "This shows that Lord Wu doesn’t conduct himself properly. Wufu, if this were to be brought to court, who knows who would be the legitimate wife and who the concubine? What do you plan to do?"
Wufu’s lips curled into a smile, "I have already made up my mind on what to do. I’m telling you all this not to worry you, but to ask you to keep it confidential."
The two exchanged a look and asked, "Are you planning something secretive that you can’t tell us?"
Wufu gave a mysterious smile, "You’ll find out soon enough!"
