Chapter 383: Final battle

Camilla stomped her feet on the ground, exerting as much strength as she could on her legs and using her blade to throw Casper away. ๐’‡๐“ป๐“ฎ๐“ฎ๐™ฌ๐™š๐’ƒ๐’๐“ธ๐™ซ๐’†๐™ก.๐“ฌ๐“ธ๐’Ž

The White warrior wasnโ€™t expecting that she would have so much strength and couldnโ€™t help but lose his balance. He was able to leap away and get to his feet before she rushed towards him, so he had the time to defend her onslaught once again.

Camilla relentlessly kept assaulting Casper with a flurry of blows, swinging her machete swiftly in the air. She had grace behind her movements, which showed just how much technique she had. However, her attacks were filled with wrath and wildly aimed at the soldier as well.

โ€™I knew that talking about her mother was a blow to her mind and that she wouldnโ€™t bear it easily. However, I wasnโ€™t expecting that she would get so affected! I didnโ€™t have any idea of Camillaโ€™s state of mind. She must be sick emotionally for years up until now.โ€™

The White warrior didnโ€™t have any other choice instead of taking advantage of her psychological issues. He knew that Camilla was emotionally unstable because of her motherโ€™s execution. He needed to touch her heart in order to talk to her properly.

The new Camilla, which was just a softer spectrum of Rat, wasnโ€™t the person he wanted to talk to. Casper needed to communicate with the old Camilla, the one that he didnโ€™t have the opportunity to know yet, the kid that was dead inside her body, the person that she didnโ€™t afford herself to be.

Just this person would be reasonable enough to understand Casper and play his game.

The soldierโ€™s objective wasnโ€™t to kill Camilla but to make her surrender and bring her to his side.

They continued to exchange fierce strikes and run all over the palaceโ€™s throne hall. The sound of their clashes echoed through that place and seemed to shake the ground.

Yanke was aiding Casper on the side, seeing details that he couldnโ€™t see and activating his skills when it was time to do it.

In a last strong clash that reverberated on their bodies, they both needed to lock blades in order to get their breath.

Just one minute of fight passed, but they did more than a normal human would do in 5 minutes.

Casper took advantage of that little break to talk again.

"Look who you are now! I donโ€™t know a single thing about you, but I know that no human would get to this point naturally! Do you think that you can lead all that people fighting in Uppsala while acting like this!?"

"I donโ€™t care! All that matters is the Royal Family get destroyed and pay for what they did! My father can do whatever he wants to this district, the Jarls, the masks, or whatever! I want my freedom back to kill these bastards and put them in their place!"

This time Casper was the one pushing her away, sending her some meters distant from him. Right after, he charged forward, not giving her the chance to recover completely.

She managed to dodge the first attack, the second was parried, and then Camilla retaliated.

Casper defended her counterattack and their blades locked once again.

"Do you want your freedom back just to take advantage of others and oppress them? Is that it?"

"Yes!"

"And how the hell it makes you any better than the Royal Family themselves!" The soldier shouted, angered, trying to push her back again, but she stood firm on her feet and didnโ€™t let him do so.

"And what the hell do you know about us!? What the hell do you know about being forced to live the way another person wants your entire life? What do you know about being private of everything you love and like? You donโ€™t have any idea what freedom is at all!" Her eyes expressed the pure wrath running on her veins and corrupting her mind like a cruel disease.

Casper already sensed that feeling. He hated Camilla before and wanted to kill her just as much as she wanted right then and there. Thatโ€™s why he pitied her. A human mustnโ€™t need to go through such ominous feelings.

"Will you live your life just holding grudges and hunting down everyone that hurt you? Will you let yourself be dominated by wrath in order to kill those who opposed your ideas?"

In their strength contest, Camilla won for a brief time and parried Casperโ€™s sword away, stepping in and slashing him.

The soldier leaped backward, distancing just enough to avoid a more profound wound, but he still got cut.

"Yes! Thatโ€™s the way I live! Thatโ€™s what I swore to do when my mother got killed!"

"Then you are the one that doesnโ€™t know a thing about freedom! You are letting yourself and your followers get blind by fury and enjailed by their own feelings! This eternal seek for vengeance will make you prisoners again!"

The soldier approached her again and unleashed a combo of three slashes. The last one was able to cut Camilla on her tight but wasnโ€™t deep enough.

"How can you understand how we feel!?"

"Because I already was a prisoner since the day I stepped inside this district, damn it!" The pained expression that Casper had when he said that made Camilla falter for a while.

The two of them kept panting for some seconds, recovering from the intense exchange of blows.

"I lived my days for a long time while carrying a burden that didnโ€™t belong to me. I needed to walk long distances with the weight of my guilt over my shoulders. And, the worst, I didnโ€™t realize that I was enjailing myself back then! I just came to know that I was killing myself every day when someone could get me back to reality and show me that I didnโ€™t need to carry that burden anymore! I... I can clearly see my old self in you and all the other Frelsis, thatโ€™s why I am saying all of this!"

Camilla kept quiet upon hearing Casperโ€™s words. For a moment she seemed to wonder about something.

"Why are you even caring about us when you could just crush us with the power that you had? You can freely choose the side you want to be on. Why are you with both, the Frelsis and the Aesirs at the same time?"

"Because I truly want to free all of you from these chains! Because I can have empathy with Frelsis and Aesirs and Jarls at the same time. I know how to end this war and make everyone live a better life in this district. So, please, trust in me!"
