District 42-Chapter 338: Womanizer
MMA and Casper intended to enter that room after seeing that scene in front of them.
Even MMA was finding it strange. He truly thought that Canute wouldn’t be doing too much these days. He really underestimated the guy.
However, there he was, working his ass off in whatever the thing that he prompted himself to do. It was just as amazing as what they saw happening in Ivar’s rehabilitation.
Anyway, before they could give one single step inside the tent, a healer bumped into them, entering ahead and just stopping her rush when beside Canute’s bed.
"Canute, you should be resting right now, you know? You just took medicine! Aren’t the effects kicking in already?" She asked, quite angry.
"The effects are kicking in but I am ignoring them." The man answered nonchalantly.
"I bet that you are nearly fainting from exhaustion. These medications are a real strain for your body, and one of the collateral effects is sleepiness. It should have been making you crazy dizzy as well. Just how can you keep up in this pace even with all of this?"
Canute sighed, looking away from his computers and notebooks for the first time, and glared at that woman.
He analyzed her angry eyes and tone of voice, shaking his head slightly, then returning to work.
Casper didn’t understand why he did all those things, but MMA knew where all that action would lead. That was the core of Canute’s personality, after all.
"Do you want to know why am I doing all of this, Arína?" He questioned while typing at the same pace as before.
His eyes were serious behind his cracked and bandaged mask that seemed about to fall into pieces on the ground at any time. If not for the bandages, it would have already happened a long time ago.
"Yes." She nodded her head.
Canute let out another sigh.
At that point, Casper understood everything.
"I wanted to get on my feet while saying these things for you, but nothing is helping it. After so much struggle, I can’t even bring myself to stand alone... Anyway, I will say it all without hesitation, because it’s true, and I know you believe in me."
Arína gulped, placing her hand on her chest and waiting apprehensively for what he had to say. Behind the mask, her face got blushed, and her eyes, moist.
"Arína, there are some things that I need to protect. To protect these things, I need to rehabilitate, get stronger, and help my other friends. That’s why I am working so much into it. I need to struggle each day more in order to accomplish the results needed to go through it."
"But, at the cost of your health!? That’s not reasonable at all!"
"Arína, when there are precious things, like you, that a man needs to protect and treasure, he would sacrifice more than one limb or two, but his entire body and soul. That’s what I am doing now." He stopped to type again, to make his words more impactful.
The woman faltered for a while, widening her eyes.
"Are you saying that... that..."
"Yes. I meant it. You are an important and precious person to me. I need to struggle for a lot of reasons, and you are one of them."
She looked to the sides, pressing her hand against her chest with more strength.
"But, we just met..."
"And that’s what makes it crazier! I just met you, but when you started to take care of me, I couldn’t think about anything other than you, and how you probably are suffering because of our recent defeat."
"I-I need to... I need to go. Please take care." Her voice showed that she was struggling against her inner feelings.
She turned her back to him and ran out of the tent, bumping into Casper and MMA again.
Canute snapped his fingers and his neck, seeming satisfied.
However, this time, he didn’t go back to work. Instead, he just kept giggling to himself.
"If Ivar is an inferior life-form, I don’t know how to address you, Canute. You are truly despicable, talking in moral and ethic matters."
Canute just noticed the arrival of those two, widening his eyes and surprise. Afterward, he began to rub his neck with a shameless grin on his face.
"Yeah! That’s another one to my collec-- I mean, that’s another friend for my list of friends~"
MMA shook his head, although his face didn’t even flinch. Casper just looked at that man, disgusted. He couldn’t bring himself to say something more.
"C’mon, don’t look at me like this. You would do the same as me if you had such a pretty woman taking care of you~" His happiness made the White warrior get the urge to puke.
"Womanizer." The soldier said, narrowing his eyes.
"Thank you! But I treat all of them kindly and with respect!"
"You disrespect them in the exact time you start to vow things that aren’t true!"
Canute shrugged.
"Everyone lies. It’s just that people lie for different reasons. I do it to charm women, you probably do the same but with another type of excuse to do so."
MMA decided to intervene in their arguing since it wouldn’t bring anything good at that time.
"At least, you were working on something, right? Or are you just feigning from the start?"
"Hehe, you know that I am always trying to kill two birds with just one stone. Of course, I was working on something else. After all, while others are trying to recover physically, I am trying to recover my mind first, and nothing better than do some calculations for this sake!"
MMA seemed satisfied with his response and nodded his head to the man.
"Ok. Now, let this useless subject behind, and let’s talk about productive things."
MMA went further into the tent, and although Casper was still a bit annoyed, he decided to follow.
Being a womanizer or not, it was Canute’s problem, anyway.
