District 42-Chapter 339: Forgotten news
"Ok, let’s talk about productive things," MMA said, trying to cut the useless subject that they got into right off the bat.
The man was serious about showing to Casper the development in the rehabilitation of the Aesirs.
Casper didn’t understand why he would do such a thing, but it was probably because he wanted to raise the hopes of the soldier.
After all, Casper could show in the outside a composed and strong figure, but inside, that huge defeat and all the consequences that came with it could have caused uneasiness. If the soldier hesitated for just a second when they were starting to act, it would lead them to get defeated once again.
Casper was, after all, their new member, willing them or not. Now he was directly connected with all the Aesirs. His influence was reasonably big. Besides, he was getting stronger each time more, not exactly in physical matters, but in his mind.
MMA kept an eye on him since the start, when he first stepped inside the Main laboratory. He knew that the man with white hair and determined eyes would have something to offer to them, and in the end, he was the one who created Yanke.
The genius scientist wasn’t aware of how much Yanke had developed until that point, but he was sure since the first time that he saw the little robot that that thing was more amazing than anyone there could ever imagine.
Anyway, regardless of his intentions towards Casper, the man began their talk about what Canute was exactly doing there, so focused.
"Well, besides wooing the healers that are taking care of you, what are you working on here?"
Canute cast a pretentious look towards him, raising a brow and crossing his arms. That arrogant attitude got Casper annoyed.
It was because he didn’t like that Aesir, but he wouldn’t say it out loud and just let him be.
"Ok, I need you to pay attention to something. What I am making here is so amazing that I need you to see it instead of just saying it to you." He called MMA and Casper to get next to him and see what he was working on.
When they saw that, they barely could believe it.
They weren’t expecting that Canute would do something as amazing as Ivar was doing on the fields where the Ridires were training, but the man did it. He was several times more excellent and useful than Ivar.
MMA showed a hint of emotion in his eyes once he got to see that. Different from Casper, he just needed a single glance to know what was going on.
"Are you reformulating the functionality of the Teleporting pads?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
He denied with his head.
"Not pads, anymore. Just teleport." He smiled, proud of himself.
’Hey, wait... What he is doing right now is...’
"You are copying the way how I got into the palace, aren’t you?" Casper asked him.
"Exactly. When you told us back in our meeting about how you got to the palace through that little robot, I wondered how that thing could do it. That’s why I started to research our data and play with the code lines of our system. And, you know what? It isn’t impossible to do even better than Yanke did!"
MMA nodded his head slowly in understanding.
"I see... So you are aiming to use teleportation without the need of an intelligent station to do it for us. You are aiming to get teleported in whenever you are to whenever you like, without any more effort than just wanting it..."
"Exactly, boss. I knew you would comprehend what I meant just by looking. This is something new to me, so I think I will need to spend a lot of time working on it. But, trust me when I say that, soon, we will all see another future to the Zap Company! My father will get very proud of me!"
Canute continued happily typing on the holographic keyboards in front of him while showing all the schemes he had planned for that project to MMA.
However, upon hearing the last part of his statement, Casper couldn’t help but feel uneasy. His face darkened and he remembered something.
’God... So much passed for my mind that I even forgot to tell him this thing... I am such an idiot.’
He didn’t know how he would have the courage to say that news to Canute at that point. Maybe he could mess with his mental state and, thereby, his productivity by saying such a thing.
It was hard for the soldier but, while seeing that the Aesir was working so hard at that time, he needed to prioritize maintaining him like that.
He would need to omit from Canute the news about his father’s death.
It probably would make the Aesir hate him even more in the future. He could even blame Casper for not saving his father on time. Just Odin knew how his reaction would be.
’I need to be stronger than my own principles here. What’s more important now is overcoming this situation and getting the Castle and Gungnir back again.
"Well, MMA, I think I’ve seen enough. It is really exceptional, by the way, Canute. Keep up the good work." He spoke, trying to cut the subject and just get away from that tent as fast as possible.
"Hmph, I don’t need your compliments. I know that I am the greatest Aesir that ever lived!" After mocking Casper and displaying all his arrogance, he got back to his work again, not minding that they both were about to leave already.
MMA just shrugged, nodding to Casper and following him out of the tent.
"I think you did what was the best for that situation, White warrior." The Boss commented.
"I don’t know what you are saying." The soldier simply replied, turning his head to the side and pretending not to know anything.
One thing he indeed couldn’t sort out: How MMA could manage to know everything that was passing on his mind or what he was doing.
