Chapter 322: Vick wakes up

Once Freygar received Rurik’s call, he didn’t hesitate to let everything aside and run toward the tent where they were taking care of Vick.

Throughout all those days that he passed working, the man couldn’t stop himself from thinking about her. He wouldn’t forgive himself if Vick never wake up again. He wouldn’t be able to take such a thing.

Just like with Canute, Freygar also considered her as part of his family since he saw her growing up since she was born. He was one of the first Aesirs of that century, after all. He passed all his life protecting her and looking after her, but it would all be worthless if something serious happened with her now.

If Vick died or stayed sleeping forever, all his job that lasted a lifetime would be worth nothing. His life would lose sense. Everything that he fought until that point to protect was now gone, the only exception was Vick, but if the same happened to her, he would lose his ground.

While running through the support base, approaching the tent where she was, Freygar was relieved and excited.

’I am so glad! I was so worried that she wouldn’t open her eyes... It’s a relief to know that, at least, she is okay. Even though our defeat is recent, I can feel a hint of joy because now I know that she is good!’ Brightness returned to the Aesir’s eyes while he thought about it. Those eyes were empty and nonchalant for all those three days.

After crying in front of everyone and make them lose faith in the Aesir’s power and resilience, after showing to them that even the strongest couldn’t protect them, Freygar needed to act nonchalantly. It was a way to defend himself and not to show anything more to anyone.

Once he got to the tent, he saw that Casper was there as well. Even though he was still under treatment to get 100% better, he helped a lot with their work. Administrative issues weren’t the kind of job that he liked to do, but he forced himself, and it worked out well.

"H-Hey, Rurik! How is she?" He approached him. Casper was on the opposite side of the bed, looking at Vick.

Before Rurik could answer, Freygar spotted her figure lying on the bed.

Her white skin was even paler than it used to be, probably due to blood loss and that poison that was in his blood flow, the reason for her staying at the Healing Center before the invasion happened. Vick’s lips had a purplish tone, her tired eyes showed that all that rest definitely wasn’t enough. From time to time, her body trembled.

"Why is she trembling?" Freygar murmured.

"It’s pain. We can’t let her be sedated forever. Sometimes, her body needs to be clean from any kind of medicine, or else it can be harmful. However, when she is not sedated, she feels pain. Now that she just woke up, she will feel this pain for a while before she gets used to it." Rurik explained.

Casper was paying attention to their conversation and just nodded in agreement. He knew more or less how it worked. He also needed to pass for times like this before.

"I know that, when a mask breaks, then the owner of the mask gets some sort of punishment. I think she is passing for this as well. Another reason to be in pain." The soldier guessed.

"That’s right, White warrior. But her mask was white, not brown or black. The punishment isn’t a sharp pain, but an exhaustive feeling, followed after some days by the usual pain." Freygar corrected him.

Those three remained to look at Vick and waiting patiently for any reaction that she would have. At first, she just opened her eyes slowly and blinked several times for a whole minute. Then, slowly, she analyzed the environment, still blinking. She was briefly glancing at everything, even her own hands.

"H-Hey, is she really ok?" Casper was getting disturbed by her behavior.

"She received a lot of blows on her head, so I think she doesn’t remember most of the things that happened. The Princess is just confused. She will sort things out soon, don’t worry. Her memories seem to be near to recover fully." Rurik gave a step in front, approaching even more the bed and drawing her attention.

Vick not just glanced at him but stared intently at his eyes. Rurik knew that she was trying to identify who he was.

"Rurik? It’s you, right?"

"Yes, Your Highness. It’s me." He bowed slightly, feeling relieved that she remembered him.

"That’s Freygar, then?" She pointed to the Cloned Aesir, even though her arm didn’t lift more than 5 centimeters from the bed.

"It’s nice that you are awake by now, Your Honor." He gave a deep bow as well.

Lastly, Vick turned to Casper. Although her face was all bandaged, anyone could notice her smile.

"Casper..."

The soldier smiled, sighing in relief.

"You know that I won’t bow for you, right?"

She giggled a weak giggle, but enough to soothe their hearts.

"Yes, I know, silly."

Rurik began to diagnose her state, asking her a lot of questions. He tried not to overwhelm her, she just woke up, after all. He was just concerned if there was any major sequel that he could not notice beforehand.

"Don’t worry, Rurik. I am okay." She assured him, smiling.

Rurik nodded, giving a step away.

"I have just one question. It’s a bit strange, though, hehe."

"What’s it?" Freygar asked.

"It’s kind of weird, but... Why can’t I feel my legs?" She gave a weak chuckle after asking this as if she was doubting what she said. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Freygar paralyzed in the same place, widening his eyes.

Rurik had a grim expression, lowering his head slowly. He felt unbearable anxiety in his heart.

"Hey... Why are you so quiet, huh? Can someone, please, answer me? Didn’t you hear me!? Please, say me why... Why can’t I feel them? What happened to me?"

Upon hearing Vick’s pleading voice, the group could just answer with more silence.
