District 42-Chapter 293: Resurrected...?
Rurik had accepted his death a long while ago. He didnโt know exactly how it was to be dead, but all he could see was darkness. ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐๐ป๐ผ๐ฏ๐๐.๐๐ผ๐บ
โI think that they lied when they said that you see a light when you are going to die. Well, they could just be lying, whatsoever. After all, how could alive humans know something about how it is to die?โ
While he was sinking into that eternal darkness, he began to think about the period when he was alive. It was both clarifying and ironic at the same time, in Rurikโs opinion.
Clarifying, because he could look at past things from a different perspective and with detachment. He could analyze his attitudes and all the things he did back then.
However, it was ironic for him because he found it funny that someone reasoned about his life the most when already dead.
โI think I have nothing to regret until now. I mean, I did my mistakes, I made wrong choices, I hurt people, just like any other human. However, I know that these mistakes were necessary to form the human that I became nowadays. After all, I wouldnโt be able to learn anything if I didnโt make the wrong choices or if bad things happened in my life.
โFor example, if I didnโt have struggled with my mother for years, with her being sick and always on the verge of death, I wouldnโt start to study medicine all by myself and create the gloves that helped me to save hundreds of thousands of lives afterward.โ
The thing that made Rurik the proudest of himself was the fact that he could become a Healer.
His career in the Castle as one of the main healers was phenomenal. He was one of the first healers to learn how to manipulate Indigo Energy in a way to make it interact positively with the human body.
After years of research, he created different methods and technologies that helped the society in its medical advance and bettered the life quality of District 42 as a whole, even outside the Castle.
With his methods, there were no diseases discovered that were impossible to treat. And his theories and principles of Indigo healing energy made many other scientists and healers make their own discoveries in this field.
These points marked Rurikโs in history as the greatest healer of all time.
โYeah... There is no way that I could regret being born and living my life the way I did. Back then, when I was still alive, I never had time to think about myself since I was always concerned by others. However, looking back now, I can notice that I did so many things for this world, that I can rest in peace.
โI just hope that everything I did continues to help people. I hope as well that everyone I left behind stays safe and healthy. I hope that no more healers needed to die on that tent. I have so many wishes to state here that I would pass the eternity just wishing and wishing...โ
Because of all those thoughts, and after reflecting so much, Rurik realized something.
"Life is beautiful. All its concept, its cycle, its complexity... But the end of life is part of this cycle as well. Death... Death is beautiful too."
...
Suddenly, Rurik opened his eyes. He was panting. His body was all covered in a cold sweat. He felt a strange hot sensation inside his body, especially in his veins.
At first, his vision was blurry and he couldnโt register well what was happening around him. Even his hearing and tact were missing.
He began to move his body, which felt... Wrong. It wasnโt the same feeling as moving his limbs before. He couldnโt describe exactly what kind of sensation was that, but it wasnโt anything like being... being human.
He tried to touch his face and his body while contracting his fingers repeatedly. He felt his heartbeat, continuous and steady, just like in any other healthy person.
His vision was coming back again. He looked around and noticed that he was in a white room, on top of a surgery table, with several cables and devices attached to his body.
People wearing white coats were looking at him perplexed. Their eyes were filled with admiration and disbelief.
They just did something that they thought was impossible. District 42 had reached a level that would be marked in history forever.
Rurik noticed that Amelia was in a corner of the room. Her eyes were grim and she had her arms crossed on the chest. Her body shivered and she seemed to struggle to not do anything.
She was clearly pissed off, in a way that Rurik never saw before.
Rurik looked to the other people around him. They seemed to be expecting him to say or do something just as if he was some sort of experimentation.
"Whatโs happening here? I died, didnโt I? I was supposed to be dead now. I am sure that the bullet pierced through my chest, it would lead to exploding my heart and..." He stopped when he saw that the expression on their faces didnโt change at all.
"Rurik, you did it. Even after being dead, you did! Despite discovering a master theory, you were the right person to make it get real. We now have the proof that, in fact, you were right. It will be a shock to all scientific community! The world will change forever!" One of them said excitedly.
The others nodded their heads. The joy on the air was palpable.
"What happened?" Rurik asked again, gloomily.
"Some years before your death, you made a theory that seemed to be absurd to the scientific community. So much, that they discarded this option right away.
"In this theory, you said that Indigo Energy could act as vital energy for the human body. You stated that it interacted with our bodies in such a way, that it would be possible to even resurrect people with it. Energy Indigo can be converted in pure life, thatโs what you said."
Rurikโs face went pale. He felt like fainting again.
"Are you saying that..."
"Indigo energy is flowing on your veins, Rurik. You got resurrected. Project Draugr isnโt just a dream anymore. Itโs real!"
The healer had a complicated expression on his face.
"No. I didnโt get resurrect at all. I have no life anymore. What is making me move and talk is a potent and mystical energy. At most, I am some sort of machine." He muttered, with a lost gaze.
Those people got silent when hearing his words. Amelia began to cry in the corner of the room.
"What you guys did to me? Why?" Rurik asked, rubbing his hair viciously as tears began to flow from his eyes.
At that moment, he felt an emptiness in his being. He could feel the lack of life in his body.
