Chapter 112: 112. Reception

"Grandma, you don’t need to fuss over us, we’re not strangers, and we’re not going to be shy. Quickly sit down, holding the child must be heavy." Liu Rong pulled her grandmother toward a chair, making the old lady laugh until her eyes squinted.

Li Shi on the side also laughed and said, "Rong is right, Grandma, I’m not cold, but you’ve been busy all morning and must be tired now." Saying this, she helped the old lady to a chair together.

"What could tire me out at home?" She said that, but her heart was indeed warm, then picked up a sweet and soft-baked sweet potato from the coal brazier and handed it to Li Shi. "This is a sweet potato, very sweet. Peel it and feed it to the child. My great-grandson has had a tough journey; hurry and eat something sweet to warm your stomach."

"Thank you, Grandma," Li Shi accepted it without any hesitation.

The aroma of this thing was truly overpowering. You could smell it as soon as you came in, and it was intriguing. Only after peeling it did you realize it smelled so good and tasted even better. Sitting by the brazier, she fed it to her son.

Because of the reasons for growing vegetables, there were coal braziers both inside and outside the house, with several burning. Each one had some roasting, so there was no worry about shortage. Seeing the generous granddaughter-in-law made the old lady smile and not forget to share with the other kids. Eating the warm sweet potatoes, Liu Rong and the others couldn’t stop at all.

Seeing the house full of children made the old lady happy, but she also thought about the busy kitchen and didn’t stay long in the main room.

"You all stay warm in the house, Grandma will make something delicious for you."

Upon hearing this, Li Shi placed the sweet potato from the child into the child’s father’s arms, "Grandma, let me help too."

Even if there were many tasks in the kitchen, the old lady didn’t have the heart to let the granddaughter-in-law work right after coming; it had been a tiring journey.

Hurriedly pushing Li Shi back into the chair, "No need for you, the food is almost ready, just stay here with the child."

Just then, for some reason, it seemed the way Liu Rong was holding the child wasn’t comfortable, and the child struggled towards Li Shi.

The old lady quickly took the child and placed it into Li Shi’s arms, then waved her hand and went to the kitchen.

With Grandma gone, Hua Yunao and his brother took on the responsibility of accompanying their cousins.

These cousins got along quite well. Even though Hua Yunao seemed a bit aloof, it didn’t lessen his cousins’ admiration for them.

To them, being able to read and write was already impressive.

After chatting for a while and feeling like they had settled down, Hua Yunao pulled in the three cousins, including the already married Liu Rong, to their room.

Usually, they didn’t have time, so it was hard to gather. Ever since finding out that the three brothers were interested in literacy, whenever they gathered, the Big Brother Hua would teach them to read and write.

They didn’t expect to teach anything extravagant, but literacy had its benefits, at least preventing them from being easily deceived outside or getting disoriented in unfamiliar places.

The Liu brothers knew the opportunity was rare; since their cousins were willing to teach them, they studied earnestly. So, when called back to the room, they knew what to do and followed along, dragging the reluctant Little Four.

Hua Jin was being pestered by her cousin Hua Hui. The little girl always liked the beautiful cousin since young, practically clinging to Hua Jin from the moment she arrived, barely leaving her side except for meals and restroom breaks.

Seeing the little cousin following her, Hua Jin really couldn’t refuse. The little girl’s adoration was too clear, making Hua Jin’s patience increase, realizing that having such a cute little cousin wasn’t so annoying after all.

With brother leading the cousins away, socially awkward Hua Jin also wanted to leave, but as the host, how could she leave her cousin-in-law alone in the living room, especially with a well-behaved little child around?

"Cousin, does your head still hurt?" Liu Hui felt concerned thinking about her cousin’s injury recently, inspecting cousin’s forehead as if she wanted to check it thoroughly.

Hua Jin gently pulled down the little girl’s hand, feeling warm inside, "It’s fine now, all healed. Thank you for your concern, Hui."

Hearing this, the little girl visibly relaxed, her face regaining its smile.

Hua Jin didn’t know how exactly to interact with a little girl like her cousin, so she decided to take her to see the rabbits in the woodshed.

Now the few rabbits in the household had turned into dozens, not counting the ones gifted to Luo Song.

"Hui, do you want to see the rabbits?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

Liu Hui’s interest was immediately piqued, her eyes opening wide with excitement, "Does cousin have rabbits at home?"

"Yes!" Hua Jin smiled knowingly. Her little cousin at this moment was adorable, like a cute little animal, which increased Hua Jin’s patience, realizing that having such a little girl around wasn’t bothersome at all.

"I want to see them!" Liu Hui eagerly nodded.

"Cousin-in-law, would you like to join us?" Hua Jin turned to look at Li Shi, who had finished feeding the sweet potato to the child.

Li Shi naturally was interested and nodded quickly, intrigued by the rabbits her cousin mentioned.

"Wow..." Liu Hui couldn’t help exclaiming upon entering the woodshed.

One wall of the woodshed was filled with cages, each containing several rabbits; seeing so many rabbits left Liu Hui only with excitement.

Li Shi hadn’t expected so many, seeing at least twenty or thirty big ones and more small ones. All these were meat, were money, and she couldn’t help but show a flash of envy in her eyes.

Hua Jin noticed their reactions, especially approving of her cousin-in-law. It seemed she was someone who understood well, as despite the envy, her gaze was clear; it seemed her aunt had chosen her son’s spouse wisely.

"Cousin, why are there so many rabbits? That’s incredible!" Liu Hui circled the rabbit cages excitedly, then ran to Hua Jin, grabbing her hand, eyes wide and almost leaping for joy.

"Do you like them?" Despite her jumpiness, Hua Jin found herself liking her little cousin.

"Yes, yes," Liu Hui nodded vigorously, especially when seeing the soft little rabbits; she couldn’t take her eyes off them.

"I’ll send a few your way to raise at home next time."

"Really?" Liu Hui hadn’t expected the surprise, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at Hua Jin, almost disbelieving.

"Of course, when has cousin ever lied to you?" Looking at her dazed little cousin, Hua Jin couldn’t resist and lightly pinched her cheek.

Indeed, this little cousin was obviously pampered at home, being chubbier compared to many thin children these days, with some baby fat remaining on her face, making the pinch soft and comfortable, no wonder family members liked pinching her, it was a bit addictive.

"Cousin, you shouldn’t, these rabbits are worth money," Li Shi said as she heard Hua Jin casually promising a few rabbits. She quickly spoke up to stop her.

Even in adulthood, a rabbit could sell for at least twenty or thirty coins, reminding her cousin as she was concerned they might not know the value due to their young age.
