Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 111. Hua Da Gu
Chapter 111: 111. Hua Da Gu
"Chengtian, why did you come out to meet us in such cold weather?" Upon seeing her younger brother, Hua Dajie hurried to help him brush the snow off his straw raincoat, not caring that she was already covered in snow herself.
"Sis, I’m not cold, I’m wearing a cotton coat and a straw raincoat as well. How could I not come to meet you when it’s snowing?" He chuckled at his brother-in-law beside him, then smiled at his nieces, nephews, and their spouses, urging them to quickly get in the car.
Hua Dajie touched her brother’s hands. Although the surface was cold, there was warmth inside, which reassured her.
"Next time, don’t come to meet us. It’s too cold, and we can walk there ourselves," Hua Dajie said.
"Sis, it’s really not cold. You’ve forgotten how warm my cotton coat is," Hua Chengtian reminded his sister.
After Jin’er made quilts and cotton-padded clothes out of the cotton, how could she forget her two sisters’ families? Knowing Jin’er still had plenty, she sent fifty pounds each to the two sisters, enough for their families to make cotton clothes, and of course, reminded them not to tell anyone.
Hua Dajie really did forget. Upon seeing her brother, she only thought about the cold outside, thinking they had to walk over anyway, so why bother having her brother come to meet them?
"Chengtian, speaking of which, brother-in-law has to thank you," said the father of the children beside her before Hua Dajie could open her mouth.
"The cotton you sent was simply fantastic. This year, our family almost didn’t feel cold at all; much better than previous years. Brother-in-law really thanks you for always thinking of us."
"Brother-in-law, what are you saying? As long as my sister is well, and I’m her brother and uncle, naturally, I’ll think of you when I have good things."
Zeng Yong glanced at his wife. Not being foolish, he could tell his brother-in-law was gently reminding him. He nodded with a smile, understanding that his brother-in-law sincerely cared for his sister.
"Don’t worry, no one would dare give your sister trouble," Zeng Yong said firmly.
If he can’t even protect his own wife, what kind of man is he?
Hua Chengtian, of course, knew this. Seeing the unchanged comforting smile on his sister’s face all these years, he too laughed.
"Uncle, let me drive the cart," his eldest nephew Zeng Yi couldn’t help but say to his uncle down below as soon as he got on the ox cart, not holding back at all.
With his eldest nephew wanting to drive, how could Hua Chengtian refuse? He quickly handed the whip to Zeng Yi but couldn’t help cautioning, "Be careful, it’s slippery."
"Don’t worry, uncle. I know," Zeng Yi replied, taking the whip and eagerly urging his parents to get in, as they were the only ones left.
Hua Chengtian helped his sister and brother-in-law onto the ox cart but didn’t join them inside the cabin. Not feeling completely reassured, he chose to sit with his eldest nephew.
With a crack of Zeng Yi’s whip, Dahuang began to trot.
...
"Grandpa," Zeng Yi called out, seeing his grandfather standing at the village entrance from afar, and raised the whip, shouting.
Hearing the voice, Hua Fen and Zeng Yong hurriedly came out of the cart.
"Dad," seeing the old man covered in snow broke Hua Dajie’s heart. She hopped off even before her son stopped the cart, only to be grabbed just in time by Zeng Yong to prevent a fall.
"Take it easy, won’t you?" Zeng Yong was nearly frightened out of his wits, grateful his heart was strong enough; otherwise, he’d surely be scared to death someday.
"It’s nothing, it’s nothing," Hua Dajie said dismissively, waving off his hand and continuing to jump off the cart.
Old Hua couldn’t help but grin happily seeing his eldest grandson, but when he saw his daughter’s reckless act, his smile faded, and he became worried.
Thankfully, the son-in-law was reliable. Old Hua shot a glare at his daughter as she jumped off, then hurried toward the ox cart.
Hua Fang also got a fright from her elder sister, but seeing she was fine, she couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
Even after so many years, with her grandchildren grown up, her elder sister still hadn’t changed.
But this also meant her sister lived a happy life, allowing her carefree nature to flourish. Thinking of this, Hua Fang couldn’t help but smile too.
Of course, her life wasn’t bad either.
All thanks to their parents who didn’t haphazardly arrange marriages for them but thoroughly investigated before they agreed to their current in-laws, fearing their daughters would suffer in unhappy marriages.
She and her sister were particularly grateful to be their parents’ daughters, greatly valuing that bond.
"You’re all grown up and still so reckless. Aren’t you afraid the children will mimic you?" Unable to hold back, mild-mannered Old Hua said to his eldest daughter.
"Dad, I was just happy to see you. Don’t worry, I’m sure I won’t fall, you know I’ve always been nimble," Hua Dajie said proudly, linking her arm with her father’s as though she hadn’t seen his stern look.
Thinking of his eldest daughter’s feats and feisty disposition when she was younger, Old Hua couldn’t help but feel a headache, though thankful his son-in-law didn’t mind.
"Dad," Zeng Yong called out, interrupting his thoughts. Seeing his son-in-law’s happy face, Old Hua smiled again and nodded: "The journey must have been tiring for you, son-in-law."
Zeng Yong shook his head: "Not at all, Dad. But you, waiting out here in this cold for us, that’s the hard part."
Old Hua’s smile grew wider upon hearing this. When he saw his grandchildren and their spouses descending from the ox cart and calling out to him, his eyes couldn’t have looked more joyful, repeatedly saying "Good, good, good."
Meanwhile, Hua Fang sidled up to her sister, whispering: "Sister, you should be more careful. You gave me a fright just now. If Mom finds out, you won’t get any peace with those ears of yours."
While happy to see her sister, Hua Fang still felt obliged to remind her lighthearted big sister.
Hua Fen’s joy momentarily stalled by her sister’s words, she gave Hua Fang a plaintive look.
In her joy, she’d forgotten about their mom.
She then glared at her sister, "Just don’t tattle to Mom."
Hua Fang rolled her eyes. "Sister, do I look like a tattletale to you? Have you forgotten about Dad and our younger brother?"
Hua Fen: "..."
Annoyed with herself, she silently groaned, knowing she’d have to endure her mom’s nagging.
"Alright everyone, hurry up into the cart and head home. Your grandmother has made lots of delicious food waiting for you," Old Hua said, and the children couldn’t contain their excitement, quickly urging their grandfather onto the ox cart. Just as Zeng Yi was about to climb up, Liu Xiang arrived.
Liu Xiang was delighted to see his sister-in-law’s family arrived, and smiled, greeting the couple while also responding to the young ones calling him.
The two in-laws, having a good relationship normally, were pleased to see each other and began discussing things as they walked under Old Hua’s urging.
Hua Chengtian walked with his two sisters, inquiring about their lives, and felt completely at ease upon learning everything was good.
Meanwhile, Hua Jin and her brother, Hua Si, greeted their cousins, serving hot water and food with enthusiasm.
Old Lady Hua, doting on her great-grandchildren, grinned brightly, constantly telling her grandchildren’s spouses to drink some hot water and sit near the brazier to warm up.
