Chapter 120: Anomalous Soul

"Your real name is Diliya?"

"That’s right!"

Tammy—now she should be called Diliya—immediately nodded, her voice excited.

Carlos looked at her strangely.

He pointed at the woman projected by the investigator token and asked in a deep voice:

"Is this woman you?"

Diliya looked confused but immediately replied:

"It’s me!"

Carlos had Purple Vortex adjust the investigator token’s projection direction so that the projected woman and the woman bound by the Dark Purple Force Field were in the same frame.

After carefully comparing them, Carlos frowned and continued asking:

"Is this you? Take a good look!"

Diliya turned her head in confusion.

The woman in the projection had an amazing, knockout figure and a soft, flawless face that couldn’t help but make one’s heart skip a beat.

But the current Diliya had an unremarkable figure and a face that could only be called decent at best—nowhere near beautiful.

Their appearances didn’t match one lick!

Though it wasn’t like there were no similarities.

For instance, they both had a pair of delicate hands.

It’s just that the nails were different colors—one had emerald green, the other black.

"It is me. When I first joined as an investigator, I was rather plump. Time flies—so many years have passed."

Diliya’s eyes were full of nostalgia, her voice wistful.

Carlos was silent for several seconds. He figured this woman probably thought he was blind as a bat.

"This woman in the projection cannot possibly be you!"

His voice carried some heat.

"Look, what part of you two is the same?"

"?"

Diliya was confused. How could this not be me?

Maybe you should take another gander!

"This figure... well, my weight loss has been mighty successful recently.

"This face... okay, I’ve been burning the midnight oil lately.

"This slim waist... mm-hmm..."

Diliya’s voice grew smaller and smaller, her confidence increasingly shaky.

What’s going on? This is clearly me...

Don’t deny this fact just because I’ve changed too much recently!

Suddenly, she found a common point!

She quickly hollered:

"Sir, these... hands, look, aren’t they both equally perfect!"

Carlos’s mouth twitched. Though he wasn’t well-versed in studying hands and couldn’t spot the difference, he wasn’t colorblind enough to not tell black from green.

Carlos didn’t respond, and the atmosphere grew heavier by the second.

Diliya started to panic. She didn’t want to spill her secret.

Her thinking getting fuzzy, in her panic she actually asked back:

"If it’s not me... then who is she?"

Carlos looked at her like she’d lost her marbles. Purple Vortex helpfully pointed to the name next to the projection.

Name: Diliya!

"She’s Diliya, then who am I?"

Diliya unconsciously mumbled.

Then she snapped out of it and shook her head hard.

Was she being a nincompoop? Actually doubting herself.

Hearing Diliya’s string of bonehead questions, Carlos’s patience gradually evaporated.

"Are you done fooling around?"

His voice was flat, but it made Diliya’s heart fill with bone-deep coldness. frёewebηovel.cѳm

At this point, she couldn’t keep her little secret under wraps anymore!

If she kept it up, she might really take it to the grave.

"I’ll spill! I’ll spill!"

Carlos listened carefully, wanting to see what proof this woman had.

"She’s not me!"

"..."

Hearing a pointless statement, Carlos’s eyes showed extreme impatience.

Maybe he should just put her out of her misery.

Diliya quickly added:

"But she is also me!"

After hearing this, Carlos felt he really had nothing better to do than jaw with a nutcase for so long.

"Are these your last words?"

Beside him, Purple Vortex immediately raised its greatsword, ready to swing down the next second.

Now Diliya gave up trying to keep things under wraps:

"I have an ability that lets me change into another appearance!"

Carlos’s eyes were doubtful, and Purple Vortex’s greatsword still hung over Diliya’s head.

The sharp aura from the blade made Diliya’s scalp prickle.

She knew that just yakking wouldn’t be convincing enough.

A conflicted expression flashed across her face before she gritted her teeth.

"I can change right now."

Carlos watched as Purple Vortex raised the sword a bit higher.

The meaning was crystal clear: Switch quickly. If you can’t switch, you know what happens.

Diliya got the message loud and clear.

She wasn’t worried—her ability was the real deal!

Just as she was about to switch to another body, she suddenly realized a snag.

"...Could you loosen this... The space is pressing against my..."

The rest was too embarrassing to say.

Carlos caught on immediately and ordered Purple Vortex to give her some elbow room.

The space wasn’t large, but enough for two body positions.

"Phew!"

Diliya exhaled lightly and closed her eyes.

Then her body began to change. Her previously flat clothing started to fill out...

Her decent face gradually transformed toward the soft, beautiful appearance of the woman in the projection...

A touch of emerald green quietly appeared on her black nails...

"Well I’ll be!"

In Carlos’s perception, the originally cold concealment aura around this woman actually vanished into thin air.

It was replaced by natural harmony.

"Concealment pathway switched to Nature pathway?"

Carlos was knocked for a loop.

Compared to the earth-shaking changes in appearance, he was more blown away by the change in her psionic aura.

"An ability to switch pathways... The body undergoes dramatic changes along with it..."

These very distinctive characteristics immediately brought a name to Carlos’s mind!

"Anomalous Soul!"

When two embryos are in the womb, there’s an extremely slim chance they’ll devour and fuse with each other.

During the fusion process, either one embryo gets the upper hand and absorbs the other to survive, or the fusion goes belly-up and both kick the bucket.

Beyond this, there’s another near-miraculous possibility.

If the embryos have amazing compatibility with each other, then the relationship between them is no longer one of devouring and being devoured.

Instead, it becomes "you in me, me in you"—a dimensional overlay.

Such an overlaid state appears to the material world as only one embryo, one new soul.

But from a higher dimensional perspective, these are two embryos, two souls, just overlapping.

This is also called the unified independence of anomalous souls.

Therefore, when anomalous soul beings awaken in the material world, they’re seen as a whole and only awaken once.

But due to the high-dimensional nature of spirituality, they’re recognized as two souls that have entered different pathways.

"Simply put, an anomalous soul being is two people rolled into one."

Without considering the high-dimensional perspective, anomalous soul beings are indeed just one person.

...

Diliya opened her eyes, her beautiful gaze revealing some gentleness.

The leather armor was still the same leather armor, the hairstyle still the same hairstyle.

But the vibe she gave off was completely different.

Her figure under the leather armor was nearly perfect, and her soft face wore a radiant smile that was somewhat intoxicating.

This was Carlos’s first time truly running into an anomalous soul being.

"A miraculous overlaid state."

In his perception, no matter from which angle, there was only one person.
