Chapter 121: Fake Assassin

Flain recently asked Flor how exactly Mana Crystals work during training. When you train near them, your mana core slowly draws mana from them. So when you stop training, mana won’t leak from the Mana Crystal anymore.

That’s absolutely great because if it were the other way around, he’d be wasting Mana Crystals just because he has to attend lectures, and if he started using one, mana would leak out of it needlessly, which would subconsciously make Flain nervous.

Meanwhile, an hour of training had passed, and Flain was curious how much EXP he would get. During the training, he didn’t feel anything special—just a normal training session that he knew by heart.

[+360 EXP]

When Flain saw that, his mood instantly improved. Normally in this room, he gets 180 EXP, so this is double. There are two possibilities for what Mana Crystals could be doing: either they give an extra 180 EXP with every training session, or they double the total EXP.

Flain hoped it was the second option, which also made more sense. So Flain decided to ask the system. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

[Tip: Your second option is correct.]

So Flain was right—thanks to Mana Crystals, he’ll practically grow stronger twice as fast, which is a huge improvement. Flain looked at the 4 Mana Crystals on the table and the one in his hand like they were divine gifts.

Flain’s eyes widened. "Hehehe, with this, I’m guaranteed to win." He murmured, and a wide smile appeared on his face.

Flain trained for another 3 hours until someone knocked on the door. This quite surprised and also angered Flain—2 a.m., who’s bothering him at such a time, and why aren’t they asleep?

Flain opened the door and standing there was his test. It was that girl, which was quite odd because they always come together and usually the man speaks.

"May I come in?" she asked.

This felt really strange to Flain. His paranoid mind kicked in. Flain thought she was either sent to kill him or to obtain some information from him. The girl was just Stage 1, so her only way to kill him would be either with poison—which didn’t work on Flain—or with some curse, trap, or another sneaky method.

Getting information from him was less likely because Flain wasn’t aware of knowing anything crucial that someone else would want, nor that anyone knew he had such knowledge.

Flain decided to let her in and observe her; if she tried anything, he’d just kill her. She was a mortal and a servant on top of that, so the Empire of Light probably wouldn’t mind much if he killed her. The academy might even reward him for killing a murderer or spy within it.

Flain opened the door and let her in, and she sat on the bed, which struck Flain as odd again. "So, what are you interested in?" Flain asked.

"Would you like to sit behind me?" she asked politely.

Flain was now almost sure she was a spy or assassin. But a very bad assassin—this was way too obvious that she wanted to do something to Flain.

Flain sat down behind her and waited to see what would happen. To Flain’s even greater surprise, the girl sat on him and started kissing him. Flain’s eyes widened, he grabbed her by the neck and threw her off. Flain would have never expected her to try to kill him right away.

The maid stood up in pain, and a few tears began to fall down her face, smudging her makeup. This surprised Flain even more—was she playing on emotions after trying to kill him? If so, that would never work on him under any circumstances.

"What did I do wrong?" she asked as she wiped her tears.

Flain was becoming increasingly confused. "You wanted to kill me or hurt me in some way," he said.

The servant’s eyes widened when she heard that. "I’m sorry it looked that way, but I just wanted to satisfy you," she said.

Flain was getting more and more confused—this was a very bad excuse that made no sense at all, but for some reason, her words sounded completely sincere.

"Satisfy me? And how?" he asked.

"Sexually," she answered.

’Sexually? Something that simple satisfies people? Good thing I’m no longer human,’ Flain thought.

If Flain hadn’t known what that was, it would have been quite suspicious. His suspicion toward her faded a little, but some still remained.

"Well, I see. I don’t want cheap girls like you. You can leave," Flain said.

Flain’s comment made the girl cry even more, and she barely staggered out of Flain’s room because of the injuries she got from being thrown.

Flain then trained for the next 7 hours and gained 2,520 EXP. Of course, that’s quite little considering he needs 330,000 EXP to level up, but Flain had already come to terms with the fact that powering up wouldn’t go as fast as it did in Stage 1.

Flain was also curious whether the amount of EXP from training had increased at its base—without local mana density or Mana Crystals. When he came to the Imperial City and trained, he was getting a lot more EXP than when training in a dungeon, and at the time, he concluded that the EXP base had increased because he didn’t yet know about mana density.

But in the dungeon, the mana density definitely wasn’t as high as in the imperial city, so the amount of EXP gained from training may not have increased by default, but only due to the higher mana density. He pondered which of these two possibilities was correct, and the system immediately responded.

[Tip: The higher amount of EXP is caused by the greater mana density. The base amount of EXP will increase in the future, but it hasn’t increased yet.]

This fact didn’t please Flain very much, because if he were to leave the imperial city, his progress would slow down significantly. But another question occurred to him — he assumed that this academy wasn’t close to the imperial city, since they had traveled by airship for quite a long time before arriving, so why was he gaining more EXP here than in the imperial city without mana crystals, even though the imperial city was supposed to have a higher mana density?
