Demon Slayer: Rise of The First Werewolf-Chapter 42: Parchment
Adrian paused, the thought of finding his sister was too tempting even though he knew trusting a demon would be foolish.
He turned his head and looked at Meggie for advice but she just took out a pack of peanuts and started eating.
He understood she was leaving everything to his discretion. He looked intently at the demon to see if there were any lies in its words.
He saw none, the demon appeared to be genuine even though its decision was based entirely on its own selfish desire to live.
He didn’t respond but he didn’t kill it either, he needed time to think this through. Letting the demon go could spell a lot of trouble for his sister.
He went to his room to sleep on the decision, Meggie bid him goodnight and left, Adrain forced himself to sleep but he found sleeping nearly impossible after turning into a werewolf.
Meggie went back to the basement after leaving Adrian’s room, the reason she didn’t tell him what to do was simple.
Adrian was still a child but he was a child with a lot of power. So much power in somebody so young was dangerous.
He was impulsive and his decisions were childish as it would be expected of a teenage boy.
However she understood he had just entered a completely different world now, naivety would only lead to his doom.
But wisdom was not something that can be given, if she tells him what to do, he won’t know the reason why he shouldn’t.
Even if she tells him the reason, they’ll be no lesson to learn and he would be prone to repeat it someday, he needs to understand why he shouldn’t do certain things.
Meggie genuinely believed children should be taught through mistakes rather than being cuddled and told what to do.
Adrian still did not understand the nature of people and especially demons, they were selfish creatures.
Selfish to the extreme, they would betray anybody and everybody if it serves them and she knew that.
She looked at the ugly demon before her with disgust, she understood this creature could betray them at the first instance.
But she also understood it would betray all of hell if that would serve itself and Meggie was betting on that.
What she didn’t know was that, similar thought were running through the demon’s mind at that moment.
She also understood how her kind were and knew she couldn’t rely on any of them. Of course she also couldn’t risk being devoured.
While being devoured by another demon was not true death, it was not far off since the chances of coming back are extremely low.
So her intentions were very taitorous, after that boy gives her the antidote for his venom and lets her go, she would naturally inform lord Abarog and gain his favour.
But the next words of the witch In front of her shattered her delusions. The witch smiled a smile she had only ever seen in demons.
" You think that’ll work?" She asked startling the demon, she wondered if the witch could read her thoughts and tried to control her mind.
Normally this would be an easy thing for her to do but in her current state, she failed and the witch grinned even wider.
" It seems I understand your kind more than you do, perhaps you’ve been away from home for so long you’ve forgotten how your family is."
The demon grew quiet, she knew, of course she knew her plan was unlikely to work, demons were not appreciative.
The only thing that can make demons keep their word is a contract and even in that case, they will always try to find a loophole.
Not for a valid reason, just to hurt the person who made the deal with them for no reason other than their own pleasure.
Looking at this witch she immediately knew this witch had extensive knowledge of demon kind, way more than that kid.
It was time to think of another strategy, beg, the only thing she could do is beg and make promises.
Just as she was about to open her mouth the witch raised her hand and her eyes turned as cold as ice.
" If begging didn’t work on that kid what makes you think it will work on me? Stop wasting your breath demon, you don’t have many left
Now, whether you retain your few remaining breaths or they stop forever will depend on our following conversation."
Her threat made the demon shiver then she remembered this witch couldn’t kill her, the only one who could was that child.
She grew a bit more confident, " You can’t kill me, the child hasn’t made his decision yet, are you not afraid he’ll get mad at you?"
The demon’s confidence was not unfounded, she concluded based on their strength that the boy was the leader.
That how it was for her kind, unless of course the weaker demon is a progeny of a much stronger demon then even demons stronger than them would listen.
However that didn’t seem to be the case here, demons had mysterious abilities and were highly sensitive to blood connections.
A trait they evolved for multiple reasons, to curse the entire bloodline, haunt their enemies descendents but most of all to survive.
Demons understood that offending the progeny of a terrifying being could get them in eternal trouble.
So to avoid that, they evolved not only telepathy too read minds but the ability to read bloodlines.
With a single glance she was able to tell these two were related by blood but the connection felt unnaturally faint.
Had she not been a level 2 demon she never would’ve felt it, she figured it only felt faint because of her weakened state and she stopped thinking about it.
However this connection confirmed that they were of the same progeny and the child was therefore the leader amongst the two and that gave her confidence.
As long as she could get through his head and convince him to let her go, things would be okay.
Meggie of course saw through the demon and just grinned. Currently she was the acting guardian of Adrian, akin to his mother and her word was law in this house.
If she told him the demon dies, the demon dies. In the time they’ve spent together she had come to understand Adrain.
Perhaps it was because they were identical but he was treating her like she was his mother and frankly she felt like she was.
Her sudden strong affection for him terrified even her. She looked at the demon with cold eyes.
" I’ll give you a chance of survival." She saw happiness and cruelty flicker in the demon’s eyes and she shook her head.
Even in this situation this evil creature was still thinking of schemes but the truth was, she really needed it.
So she took out a parchment with a black magic array but the moment the demon saw it, its body shot back and collided with the metal wall.
" No no no, please, not that I’ll do anything else."

Sorry for the slow update, unfortunately I can’t promise improvement anytime soon.
I’ve been getting constant headaches and my vision gets more and more blurry, so my optometrist told me to limit my screen time, I’m really sorry.
