Chapter 321: A Blind Date

As promised, Thane drove over to pick up his wife, however, the dinner plans he had made for them were placed on a sudden halt, when he got a call from Sarah.

"I’m sorry, I have to take this." he said, getting out of the car.

She watched him walk further away from the car and was tempted to follow, to eavesdrop on his conversation. However,, before she could her phone vibrated.

Picking it up she saw it was Ethan, who sent her the reservation invite to some restaurant she had never heard of. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Before she could respond with an excuse, Ethan called her. Her heart raced with fear, Aaron’s words resounded in her head, she knew what this man was capable of, and feared having to see him.

But, she knew she was in too deep not to answer.

"Brooke, did you see the reservation I sent you?" he asked, eagerly the second she answered the phone.

"I did, but I’ve started filming, I’m so tired right now." she said.

"That’s fine, I’m on my way to pick you up. I got the location from the director, I’ll be there in less than ten minutes." he informed her.

Brooke’s chest tightened, "Ethan, I’m telling you I’m too tired-"

"And I said I’m coming. over dammit!" he yelled at her, sending chills down her spine. He disconnected the call, putting the last word in, giving Brooke not much of a choice.

She sat in the car, worried. He had her filming address, if she avoided him now, he’d only make more problems for her later on set.

It wasn’t like before when Thane made sure he couldn’t bother her.

But he was going abroad soon, and he had been against her meeting with Ethan from the very beginning. If she went to him for help now, she’d just be a bother to him.

She took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts.

Thane returned shortly, and with a worried look on his face. He slid into the driver’s seat, and reached for Brooke’s hands.

"Are you okay? You look pale." He said, searching her eyes for an answer.

She cleared her throat, "Yeah, but um, the director just sent me a text, there’s a scene I forgot to shoot. They need me back on set." She told him.

He nodded, "That’s alright, I’ll wait here till you’re finished."

"No! You don’t need to do that. I’ll go home alone, or have the driver take me." She interjected.

Thane remained adamant, "I’m waiting right here for you, Brooke. I didn’t come all this way to leave you here."

She faked a smile, "Come on, you have your product launch coming up, and I was going to make a stop at the hospital to see Dylan either way. I don’t want to waste your time, I seriously don’t know when we’ll be done." She tried to get him to leave.

It was one thing that Ethan was after her. But if he knew anything about Thane, she was afraid he would try and harm him.

"What sort of director makes you work this late into the night? First he gives you a trailer to change in, and now extra hours?" His tone shifted, he was irritated at the director and ready to wreck havoc.

But Brooke was sweating buckets. Ethan was on the way, and Thane did not seem like he would move an inch from where he sat!

"What’s the update with the new project? Have Zyxon agreed to sell their tech to us?" Edward asked, sitting across from his mother.

William nodded, "We’re just a signature away from sealing the deal."

"Good! I’m betting on their latest development in artificial skin bioengineering. Make sure we obtain full rights over their production and distribution, whatever the cost may be!" he ordered.

William bowed his head, "Yes, father."

His grandmother cracked a toothy grin, "Now that we’ve concluded that, I’ve set up some dates with some reputable women. Tonight, you’ll be seeing one of my friend’s granddaughters, so make sure you pick up a gift on the way home." She told him, revealing the purpose of her visit.

William balled his fists, "Grandmother, the business right now is at a critical stage, I think we should put off marriage-"

Sophia cut him off, "Malcolm and his wife are very crafty people. Thane is out of the picture, but they’re already sharpening their knives with Matthew. He’s not only gotten engaged before you, but he stole a contract from right underneath your nose!"

"Grandmother-"

"Mother is right!" His father turned to him, "Go meet this woman tonight. It’s more important that you butter father up while he’s still undecided about his successor. We’re this close to getting everything we deserve, don’t slip up again." He hardened his tone towards the end, sending a warning.

Sophia seconded, "At the end of the day, having a wife and child is what’s going to sway your grandfather’s heart. And you need to be quicker than Mathew and that Rosamund girl. I don’t care if you have to get her pregnant before the wedding, just make sure we win at the end."

William unclenched his fists and lowered his head, "Of course, grandmother, you make a good point." He replied, weakly.

"Take an early leave today, so you can prepare a gift and freshen up for tonight. Time is the one thing we do not have." Edward reminded his son.

William nodded and stepped out. Outside his father’s office, he turned on his phone and tapped on an open chat window.

W: I’m sorry, tonight is out of the question.

It didn’t take up to a minute for the other person to receive the message and reply to it.

XXX: But you promised to come see me. It’s been two weeks.

He sighed, resting his head against the nearest wall. His countenance fell as he glided his thumb across the screen, giving his response.

W: From now on, let’s not see each other anymore.

The other person hastily began to type a response, but William blocked their number then switched his phone off...
