Chapter 192: Secret Had Been Let Out
"You are a fast learner, I was starting to get worried that filming would get pushed back because of you, but it’s good you’re quick on the uptake. Keep this up and-" The director’s praise for Brooke was cut off when his assistant director came forward and showed him the news.
"What? Cassie Crane was attacked last night?" He spat out, garnering the attention of the rest of the cast. freёnovelkiss.com
Brooke’s ears stood, attacked?! She reached for her phone to see messages from Hannah, filling her in on what the assistant director had just said. Brooke marched to a corner of the set and placed a call to Hannah, seeking out the details.
"What happened to Cassie? Is she alright? Was the attacker identified?" Brooke asked all at once.
Hannah sighed, "I haven’t heard any word about that, from the articles online someone called an ambulance on her phone but the caller hasn’t been identified and neither has the location of the attack. I think the hospital and the police are waiting for her family to step in before an official statement is released."
Her family. Brooke’s heart slightly sunk. Her father was being hunted by the police, Serena was as good as useless and Ethan would not dare to implicate himself after Serena claimed he was hiding a wife and child. Cassie was a spoiled brat who had no one that would be with her in this desperate time.
"Brooke, the costume designer wants to see you about the recent design change." A staff member called out to her, stealing Brooke’s attention.
"Hannah, please keep me posted on any recent development-" Brooke was saying, but immediately got cut off by the loud whispering at every corner of the room by the staff and cast members.
What was going on?
She disconnected the call and turned to leave for the costume designer, but her phone vibrated, it was a message from Hannah, a link to an Instagram story. On her way out she tapped on the link to the post, wondering what could’ve happened in less than a minute that got everyone talking.
It was only when she saw the post that Brooke soon understood what was happening.
The secret had been let out.
Cassie’s pregnancy had been revealed!
Jen stepped out of the bathroom with the clothes she had just finished washing as per her boss’s instructions. Ethan had even taken her phone off her so she wouldn’t have the chance to take any photos of the evidence.
"Where are you going?!" Ethan demanded, stopping Jen right in front of the front door.
Jen hugged tightly onto the laundry basket, goosebumps splattered across her skin. "I’m just going to place these in the drier downstairs."
"Just leave them there, don’t go anywhere." He ordered, hugging her throw pillow to his chest.
"But they’ll start to smell-" Her words were cut off by the pillow in his hand flying towards her head. Startled she dropped the basket, and blocked her face, evading the attack.
"Come here!" he yelled, slapping a vacant spot on the couch, hinting at her to sit next to him.
Afraid of angering him, she quietly went over, she sighted her phone placed next to his on the lamp stand, thankfully it was close to where she sat.
Not a second after she had taken her seat did Ethan grab her by the elbow and made her lay down next to him on the couch.
"Sir-"
"Keep quiet, just stay here." He said gripping onto her tightly, so tightly that Jen’s arms began to hurt, but she feared saying something and getting hurt.
He had shown up with blood all over, there was no telling how far he was willing to go.
But just whose blood was that?
Jen’s thoughts were cut short by a knock on her door. Her heart sunk deeply when she heard Avery’s boyfriend, Oliver’s voice accompanied by the knock.
"Jen! Are you in there?!" He called out, his knocks intensifying.
The hairs on her body stood when Ethan brought his lips to her ear, and whispered loudly, his voice deep and dreadful, "Who is that man knocking on your doorstep?"
Jen swallowed, what could she say that would guarantee hers and Oliver’s safety?
Ethan sunk his fingers into her arms and gritted his teeth. "I asked you a question-"
"He’s just a friend of mine, I swear!" She squeaked.
"Hey! Jen! Are you okay?! You aren’t answering your phone! If you don’t answer, I’m going to come in!" Oliver announced.
Ethan laughed but his voice lacked any humor. "Just a friend? He has your room key, and you dare lie to me?"
Tears welled in her eyes she pleaded, "He really is just a friend-" her words were cut off when Oliver slipped his key in the lock.
Her heart pounded.
Ethan didn’t know his name or what he looked like, Oliver could still walk out without getting involved. But if he got caught, there was no telling how low Ethan would stoop to get back at him. And when he finds out he’s Avery’s boyfriend, he’d know she’d been working to take him down.
She couldn’t allow that.
"Don’t come in! I just got out of the shower!" she yelled. Thankfully, Oliver closed the door but he didn’t leave.
"Sheesh, say something earlier, I was starting to get worried." Oliver sighed.
"S-Sorry, I’m just hungover from those beers last night. Um, could you head back for now? I’m really busy, I have to get to work..." she was saying, but Oliver cut her off.
"I take it you haven’t seen the news then. Cassie Crane, your company’s ambassador was attacked last night and admitted at the hospital!" he announced, instilling fifty shades of fear in Jen.
She slowly turned her head to look at Ethan. But instead of finding any sense of guilt whatsoever, all she saw was a calmness so frightening it made her shiver in true fright.
Could he have...
