Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 190: A Splatter Of Blood
Chapter 190: A Splatter Of Blood
Brooke sighed as she collapsed onto her bed, her face buried into her pillow, one foot lazily hanging from the edge of the bed. Wet droplets from her hair dampened the bed, a deep groan escaped her lips when she realized she had forgotten to blow dry right after her late night shower.
Just as she raised her head, her phone went off, Brooke swiftly picked it up, a large grin painted her lips when she realized it was Thane on the other end requesting a video call.
In a rush she pushed her hair back and straightened her pajamas, she breathed into her palms, taking a quick sniff of her breath, only to realize that it was a phone call.
With flushing cheeks she answered the call, pulling the sheets up to her shoulders. "Mr Grayson-" Brooke cut herself off when her eyes landed on Thane’s exposed cleavage from his loose fitting night shirt.
"I’m glad you answered, I was starting to think that you were that angry at me." Said Thane, as he reclined into his seat, luring Brooke’s gaze to his chest.
Averting her gaze she responded, "Why would I be angry at you?"
"I placed you in a difficult position, even though I’m unsure of their motives, I shouldn’t have allowed this situation to happen." He said clenching his fingers into a tight fist.
Brooke shook her head, "We can’t think the worst of the situation yet, I still believe that both Hannah and Gilbert aren’t bad people. I can’t say for certain, but maybe there’s a reason they can’t tell you the truth. Do you think they’re being threatened? Maybe a family member? Or an enemy of your family?" She suggested.
Thane’s eyes went round, "Gilbert comes from a complicated background, but he isn’t easily swayed. The moment my mother approached him to act as her spy he immediately informed me. I don’t know who or what could motivate him into betraying...I mean acting out." The awkwardness in Thane’s tone was impossible to miss.
Brook smiled, "You feel hurt Mr Grayson, it’s okay, I know you saw him as a close friend."
Thane dry coughed, "As for Hannah she went to a prestigious university graduated top of her class and has worked freelance jobs for VIP clients. She has the money to take care of herself and her grandmother. She can’t be bought off or threatened easily."
At the mention of her grandmother Brooke made a face. "Is that her only family?"
Thane nodded, "Her father’s boat capsized when she was nine, and her mother drank herself to death four months after."
Brooke gasped, "She’s gone through so much, I never could’ve guessed. She was always smiling so much when we were together." The idea of Hannah suffering in silence while they were together ate Brooke up.
"It isn’t your fault, she must’ve buried that pain a long time ago. I’m sure even her grandmother would know nothing about her suffering."
Brooke narrowed her eyes, "Where is her grandmother, maybe she can give us a clue-"
"Brooke." Her husband crooned, cutting her off, an all knowing look plastered on his face. "You shouldn’t brood over this anymore, I’ll handle it myself, right now filming is your major concern."
Brooke stretched her legs as she laid fully on her back, the phone raised to the ceiling, "Filming is going well, everyone is nice and the pacing is good." She said. To herself she thought, ’Mr Grayson is already busy starting a business here, I can’t burden him with my problem.’
Mirroring her, Thane stretched out on the bed, "Tell me everything that happened, I’ll listen until you fall asleep." He said, his gaze pointed deeply at Brooke.
Turning to the side she stared back at the screen, as though Thane was lying next to her. In turn he did the same, imagining Brooke was in bed with him.
"Nothing much happened today, I just made some rookie mistakes, but everyone is so patient with me I feel bad for not being any better. That’s why I stayed back to practice some more, and that’s why Damien..." she left the rest of her sentence hanging, leaving Thane to fill in the gap.
Thane groaned, "I know you wouldn’t do anything suspicious, you value acting too much to cause a scandal." He started off.
But Brooke immediately chimed, "I value you too much Mr Grayson to do anything to upset you. I want you to know that I’ve never cared for another person as much as I do for you. So please trust me she when I say that I would never cheat you."
All her life she had fought for someone to see her and cherish her, and with Thane who did so without her having to lift a finger, Brooke was determined to hold onto him dearly.
Jen jolted out of her sleep at the sound of a loud banging on her door. She rested a hand on her hip, cushioning the slight stretch she felt at her lower back from sleeping at her dining table.
The knocking now mixed with her doorbell ringing earned a raised brow out of her "Who could be out there so damn early?" she stole a glance out the window, it was still pitch dark, most likely midnight or the early hours of the next day.
Dragging her sleeves down, Jen peered through the peep-hole, "Ethan!" she gasped and covered her mouth. Why was he here so late?
She made a swift dash to the table and started clearing away the documents she and Oliver had looked through last night. She slipped them into a brown envelope and slid it under her fridge. Once she was done she kicked the cans of beer to the side and made for the door. freewebnσvel.cøm
However, Jen was met with a larger than life shock when she opened the door and her panicked eyes darted to the splatter of blood peeking out of Ethan’s coat.
She recalled Ethan’s blood thirsty eyes and his deranged tone right before he left the office, her knees weakened and her heart pounded loudly in her chest.
Why was Ethan here? And whose blood was on his shirt?
